Damn this Cubs team is a fun watch. Joe Maddon is playing Go when the rest of the league is playing checkers.

He managed a bad game tonight and got lucky zobrist caught that ball. I'm sure the media will kiss the ground he walks on because the last two innings

While completely ignoring the fact that it took 15 innings to beat a horrendous team, and that they barely pulled one out against the same team the night before (after losing 6 of 7 the previous week to a couple teams over .500). If the past week showed me anything, it is that the Cubs are not invincible and can be beat by the teams that are .500 or above, especially if that team has some damn bats in the lineup instead of the minor league squads a lot of NL bottom feeders throw out there. Furthermore, if Arrieta keeps throwing the ball all over the place, they aren't winning anything. Oh and don't worry...I am sure they will beat up on "Cody Reed" today and the media will have a circle jerk about their sweep of Cincinnati. YEAH!!

Burdi, Hansen and Fulmer can take the place of Robertson/Jones at a fraction of the cost.

They're going to have to do something dramatic to change this team. Paying Robertson that kind of elite closer salary two years in a row on middling teams is absolutely pointless.

Yea, Cubs

It's a Mad Mad Maddon World..."creative title"!!!

http://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/its-a-m...-in-15-innings/

Anyone who still wasn’t sure what Joe Maddon might be capable of doing as the manager of the Cubs after 250 or so games got the full “mad scientist” view on a long, strange Tuesday night in Cincinnati. By the end of a 7-2, 15-inning victory by the Cubs, two different pitchers had batted, three had played left field, and guys in the Cubs dugout were rooting for a ball to be hit to Strop in left. “We were hoping, man,” said Maddon, who navigated much of the final three innings of that game with just seven position players eligible. An intentional walk loaded the bases for starting pitcher/pinch-hitter Jason Hammel – the former Rays pitcher who often refers to “the mad scientist that is Joe Maddon” – who grounded sharply for an out just ahead of Javy Baez’s booming grand slam over the center field wall. ...

If Fulmer is a reliever, the Sox need to deal him to a team that thinks he can start.

Rodon and Sale were exceptions...I wouldn't be surprised if you saw all three of those guys make their debuts with the Sox pitching in relief, especially Burdi and Hansen. Important to get their feet wet gradually in low pressure situations (more likely to lead to early success and confidence-building) and then they can assume larger roles later on when it's warranted by the results.

You have to admit that the last two innings were pretty funny. How many times do you see a pitcher playing the field and then coming in to pitch to certain hitters? It would have been funnier had he gotten burned by it, but it's still interesting.

The best part of that 3 runs was the routine flyball by Rizzo which was misplayed by the LF and CF, hit Hamilton in the head, and rolled to the wall...allowing Rizzo to circle al the bases. LOL at the Reds, what a joke of a team. But, the Cubs are awesome and THEY'RE BACK!! Circle jerk time!!

At least they have to play the Mets next. But wait, that series is followed by the Reds and Atlanta. Scary.

IIRC the Mets are gonna be without Snydergaard and Matz because of bone spurs in both of their elbows

Actually, Matz is scheduled to start tomorrow. Snydergaard not scheduled but there is a TBA for Sunday. Pitching well...that is another story...

Other than Finnegan, none of the "top pitching prospects" the Royals have traded away have amounted to much of anything as starters.

Well, theoretically, you can also include Jake Odorizzi from the original trade in 2012-13 offseason for Shields/Davis.

The Dodgers are bringing up a AA starter that Dave Roberts has never even seen pitch once. Things could be worse.

The bigger concern is Wheeler for them. Has had some setbacks.

Any random low-A arms that we're traded years ago are now warm MLB bodies and have cool nicknames?

If you keep bringing up Devenski, might as well bring up Odorizzi and others.

Daniel Moscow on the Hudson

Junior Mints Guerra

Chris The Dragon Devenski

Addison Blame It on Reed (close enough to Rio, works better with Jose Rijo though)

Addison Reeds and Woodwinds

The Cubs need some of that Cincinnati goodness to pad their individual offensive statistics, run differential and overall record. Lucky for them, the Reds triumphant return to Wrigley starts Monday with the untouchable Cody Reed scheduled to start. The Bud's will be a flowin', the fan's will be a singin', and the media will be a bobbin' on the nobbin' come the 4th of July. #Rentfree

so did anyone really think the Cubs pitching would really continue to be the best in the league

Nope...Lackey, Hendricks, and Hammel will all regress in the second half. That being said, the Cubs are licking their chops for the Reds to come into town on Monday. They love 'em!
