I disagree swinging at first pitch is dumb when they've seen a lot of 83mph fastballs down the middle.

Frazier swung at a 77 MPH cutter/slider thing that was out of the zone

Jackson 2 for last 26 with one walk, no extra base hits. By all means, keep moving him up in the order.

Even if you get a meatball?

Paulie's WS grand slam was on the first pitch. I am happy he was stupid enough to swing.

They are all meatballs when it comes to Jeff Weaver.

Um, not really, but OK.

On the first pitch, you should be looking for a specific pitch in a specific location, i.e. a fastball on the inner half. If you get what you're looking for, swing. If not, let it go. Once you have one strike you get a bit less selective and then with two strikes you get defensive.

If you never swing at the first pitch pitchers will catch on and you'll start off every AB down 0-1. If you get a good pitch to hit swing away.

He has been hitting the ball hard and having a lot better ABs then Avila and Garcia so why should he be below them?

Frank Thomas needs to replace Steverson as hitting coach.

The goal against Weaver is to make him throw the ball over the plate. Swinging at the first pitch out of the zone is exactly what he wants the opposition to do.

I think its probably more a failure in scouting, although it doesn't seem like the coaches are doing much to bust the massive, teamwide slumps that have sunk this team the last 3 years.

I wonder if we see Ishikawa called up for E. Johnson after this game. Really need a back-up 1B and a lefty bat on the bench.

Due for a walk off win. Be patient. We got this.

I'd rather they start 0-1 than just weakly pop something up into the OF while drawing absolutely no effort from the opposing pitcher.

Really need to shake this lineup up or something, these guys are dead on their feet.

Eaton

Lawrie

Cabrera

Abreu

Frazier

Saladino

Rollins

AJax

Avila

that's depressing

4DPs wow

Nice patience by Petricka not to rush the throw to second base after the bobble. That makes 4 DPs turned for the Sox today.

Nice job by Petricka

Let's get another one this inning and walk it off in the 9th

Is there a "not depressing" 7-9 we can throw together (unless you move abreu/frazier/cabrera 9th to set the table for eaton)

Got any other ideas? If no one is going to hit right now, you might as well stack the guys that are actually hitting

This bullpen is ludicrously good.

Moar runs please. Politeness counts.

Your idea is fine, just that the options are soooooooooooo bad. It shouldn't be this hard to find a DH that can hit decently vs RHP. Where's Calvin Pickering when you need him.

At least the Sox aren't paying any one guy $25M to bat under .160.
