May 27, 20169 yr Author QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 27, 2016 -> 11:45 PM) Time to trade him to Oakland for Sonny or Atlanta for Teheran. Would take more than him. His value has to be plummeting this season.
May 27, 20169 yr Author Walked 3 in the first already. Time to send him down a level as this is a disaster.
May 28, 20169 yr Someone mentioned before that Fulmer was not much of a strike thrower in college and that MiLB hitters are not swinging at Fulmer's pitches out of the strike zone the way college kids did. Makes sense. Now it's up to Fulmer to adjust and that might take longer than anticipated.
May 28, 20169 yr Author Just walked 4 in an inning. 7 walks in 4 innings. ERA up to 5.87 This farm system is something disgusting this year outside of Anderson. Edited May 28, 20169 yr by fathom
May 28, 20169 yr Author QUOTE (DirtySox @ May 28, 2016 -> 12:48 AM) 7 BBs. Yuck. Disaster. And the pick right before him, a player that had been potentially linked to the Sox, is already the 6th rated prospect in the minors.
May 28, 20169 yr That's because the Red Sox actually invest a ton of money into scouting, both the US and internationally. It would be instructive to know if we would have taken him over Fulmer had he slipped past BOS. Probably not. Were there any rumors of Sox interest? Anderson 0/4 with a K. Knew it wouldn't last forever... Edited May 28, 20169 yr by caulfield12

Sox were one of the first teams in the top 10 that had interest in him, I believe
May 28, 20169 yr Fulmer likely needs to retreat to Winston Salem and regroup. 34 walks in 46 innings? our farm system has hitter who K all the time and never walk and pitchers not throwing strikes. Not a good game plan.
May 28, 20169 yr Until Fulmer starts putting up quality starts where the walk number is low, and k number is somewhat high, that dude is totally irrelevant. What a trainwreck of a season so far.
May 28, 20169 yr lol at sending him down a level. Why, so some younger dudes can swing at his wild bulls***? I'd promote him to the majors before I demoted him but I'm just some random dude who likes baseball and not a GM.
May 28, 20169 yr Fulmer had a bad delivery in college, but given the success of Sale, the Sox seemed to overlook that and we're confident they could either fix it or teach him to pitch around it. I hope this is a result of them taking the time to try to smooth out the mechanics. He was not a universal top 10. I wante the Sox to take the guy the Cubs picked right after, who was the best college hitter in the draft. I don't know if he's done anything or not. Edited May 28, 20169 yr by GreenSox
May 28, 20169 yr http://www.chicagonow.com/future-sox/2016/...-issues-remain/ Recap posted. Sox Farm goes winless on the night. Cooper leads MilB in K's. Fulmer's command issues still there.
May 28, 20169 yr What kind of stuff does Cooper have? He's been one of just a handful of pleasant surprises.
May 28, 20169 yr Fulmer is a reliever. The delivery is too violent to be able repeat and have command of his pitches. Also the head jerk hasn't improved if anything has become more violent. Sucks the Sox use the 8th pick on a reliever. I believe Sox need to rethink and look at their scouting more carefully. Danish and Fullmer are 99.9% relievers. Majority of the league thought that with Danish and Fulmer was probably split 50/50.
May 28, 20169 yr They definitely have to look into doing something with Fulmer, but it's not obvious to me whether demotion is the answer. For one, he seems to be getting worse, which would suggest it isn't just the competition. You also want to know that he's actually locating the pitches rather than taking advantage of worse competition. With that said, I'm a strong proponent of the idea that you can irrevocably harm a player by letting him play too badly for too long.

The last I heard was a SSS podcast with Buddy Bell where he talked about Fumler working on things. Mechanics IIRC. Whatever it is it's not working at all.
May 29, 20169 yr Keith Law has new footage of Carson Fulmer's delivery on his Facebook page. Delivery is even more violent from last year. Can't get it downloaded here.
May 29, 20169 yr JA Happ was the answer to the draft pick....him and Benitendi were the hitters the Sox should have been looking at. Rich get richer. Sox just keep floating along in the midst of mediocrity.
May 31, 20169 yr If you want to know more on Fulmer, check out the analysis piece we just posted on Future Sox. Tons of video including recent stuff from BHAM, quotes from Bell & Perdew, everything you want to know. For those asking about Cooper, here is our profile of him. But you can add to that his slider, which we didn't see but he's supposedly using regularly now.
