Helpless, trapped, shocked and scared, they texted their loved ones, pleading for help.

One person whose story has really touched peoples' hearts is that of Eddie Jamoldroy Justice.

Justice, a 30-year-old accountant, sought shelter in the bathroom from where he texted his mom:

Seems like self - loathing may have been the motivating factor here, but it's still early. One thing I picked up from your link is that he s currently married, I had only heard about the ex wife before.

Seems more like a case of personal "demons" than any type of "terrorist ideology" at play here...

 

If ISIS really wanted victory over the US, they would target someone/something closely associated with Donald Trump, like one of his buildings/casinos or the Miss Universe/Miss USA pageant. That would actually generate some (I'm not going to call it a "well of") sympathy for him, giving him a much better chance at being elected...which is exactly what someone looking to destablize the US government and provoke it into an all-out war (including ground troops) would do strategically.

NPR had a story yesterday on the shooter's father. He seems a bit nutty and is obsessed with the Afghan/Pakistan border (long-running border dispute, apparently). His political concerns seem to be entirely centered around that border dispute and not religiously motivated, and he believes himself to be the head of some sort of provisional Afghan government.

Ok? Lots of people around the world hold s***ty LGBT views, including this guy, but the primary motivation behind his (the father's) politics looks like the Afghan-Pakistan border dispute. That's what he's spent tons of hours broadcasting satellite and now internet shows about, not gay people or being pro-Taliban in general.

That "at most" is in reference to the actual ties to ISIL, and you're right that him having any sort of real connection to ISIL or any other group doesn't determine whether it's terrorism. That post was about what sort of threat ISIL and ISIL-organized groups or individuals poses to America, and that this isn't evidence of that sort of threat. As I said earlier in the thread, domestic self-radicalization poses its own threat to be sure, but that sort of context is necessary if people want to have intelligent conversations about what can or should be done. Ranting about the threats of ISIL and Muslim immigrants is a pretty unintelligent response to an attack carried out by a person born and raised in America.

The dad wasn't sensitive enough to what has happened. 50 people massacred! I read today how he had so much ammo that he would shoot people and return to put more bullets in them to make sure they were dead. Horrifying stuff and this dad is talking politics. f*** him. Show some compassion.

All it would take it gunmen storming each exit and firing away. Thousands dead. We are at war, folks, but we have to be too PC.
