  2. I think the Sox should be past the sell-off stage of this rebuild. Not that you won't occasionally do it with certain players in certain situations. But a guy who is a mentor, a leader, the best player by a mile, and shows no signs of slowing down - no you don't even consider moving him.

  3. I agree with you 100%. The front office could have easily added some players during this rebuild.

  4. At 5:00 a.m. on Sunday morning in China, lol? At least I made my first game thread...might even turn out a winner.

  6. I'm LOVING these uniforms. The gray/green/black is working for me.

  7. I'm not rooting against Covey, Ron, just informing you how your reverse jinx works so you can use it for good.

  8. He may just be one of those 10% who never really recovers from UCL reconstruction. We are close to 90% eventually return to previuos level of function.

  9. It's another one of those games where Hahn gets to be a genius. Instead of feeling embarrassed at that relief choke job, he can smile and wink at the investors and say, 'Just as we planned it.' That top 2 draft pick is coming next year ... yeah! Sure hope this year's No. 4 and next year's 1 or 2 are not busts. Of course we'll give them 4-6 years to make the majors. Hahn can keep the rebuild mystery going as long as he wants and be beloved by fans, owners, everybody. It's unAmerican to try to lose like this.

  10. I just learned an important lesson: don’t respond to a Greg post 60 minutes after the fact because someone else will have already expressed your exact thoughts.

  11. Rogers started the season really slow and has since turned it on. With how valuable I think Jose is he is a must in my opinion. With McMahon, lots of players start off slow, I still think he will hit in the bigs. I really like Welker. But he started off on fire and has since cooled off, still playing very well though. If we are giving up Jose we should get our pick of 2 of these and a player like Tapia. If we don't then I say we keep him.

  12. I love Dahl, but I consider him even more untouchable than Rodgers. Tapia wouldn't be bad and I did forget about Hoffman. Yea, I'd be fine with a Tapia/Hoffman/McMahon get. ALL 3 would be immediate starters in Chicago yet all are still young enough to be part of the growth of the team. I think in time McMahon could be an elite defender at first base and he should hit. Tapia not sure where he plays in the OF but he has talent. Hoffman would be hard to get, though he would easily replace the sinking Gio.

  13. Read a blurb on a Rockies board where they have interest in Abreau. Not that I'd be advocating moving Jose, but the Rox are a joke at 1B and they plan to get active. No question if Jose was moved there, Ryan McMahon would likely be a chip coming back. The Sox could play him at 1B or 3B. Rox have no really elite lefty pitching prospects. I am intrigued by OF Sam Hilliard, he's a bit older, but has 5 tool talent and is wrecking AA right now. He does K a lot, which worries me as you progress up the ladder. Catcher Tom Murphy is a bit "older", but is a masher for that position. He's not particularly strong defender however. I wouldn't think the Sox would move on him. Their better righty pitching specs, guys like Lambert would barely crack the Top 10 in the Sox farm at the position. So I don't see anything there. I doubt the Rox would move Brendan Rodgers, but that's the only scenario I see the Sox making such a trade. Rodgers has big time potential, as does McMahon, but both are unproven and McMahon scuffled earlier this season, though was badly handled by Black. I think the only way I'd think about moving Jose to the Rox would be for Rodgers + McMahon.

  14. Covey was a rule 5 pick last year who had only 6 games of AA experience. It's pretty easy to understand why he got hit around. Imagine Kopech or Dunning and Hansen brought up that fast. If he wasn't a Rule 5 pick he would still be in the minors last year and probably ranked somewhere between 15-20 in the Sox top prospects with an upward arrow with how well he pitched in AAA this year while gaining a few ticks on his fastball.

  15. Again, there aren't really enough starting level catchers to cover MLB, let alone once you start taking players out of a teams depth chart. Catcher is probably the hardest position to fill in MLB. Knocking out a teams starting catcher usually is a tough blow to overcome, but it becomes really awful when both #1 and #3, and maybe #4 or #5 are also out.
