White Sox blogs roundtable, on the Sox farm

Great stuff. Very cool getting everyone together like that. I really liked all of the ideas on improving/changing minor league baseball.

QUOTE (shysocks @ May 17, 2016 -> 08:24 AM) Start at Glacier National Park in Montana, then drive to Banff National Park. Since it's a shorter trip that's probably enough, but if you've got more days I'd also recommend flying to Vancouver from Calgary and doing everything there is to do there. This is some of what you'll see in Banff: That looks amazing.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 5, 2016 -> 11:54 AM) Absolutely. I actually lived in the next town over from JSC from like 1st to 3rd grade. I went to school with kids whose dads worked in Mission Control on the Shuttle Program. I love it there, and can't wait to take my kids to see it That's really awesome. My parents live north of Houston now (about an hour drive from JSC), so I bought a year membership. I plan to go back when I visit this summer.

QUOTE (Tex @ May 4, 2016 -> 06:46 AM) My son works for USAA. They hired Huey Lewis & The News to play their Christmas party at the Alamodome. He made the comment, I have no idea who this band is, you probably have heard of them . . . Update: The Huey Lewis concert was last Saturday. Dude's still got it. They rocked out.

    Airport Security

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 16, 2016 -> 09:38 PM) Not sure why O'hare and Midway both have had so many issues lately, I've witnessed the Midway issues firsthand (luckily I was leaving and not arriving) and it was UGLY. Line stretched back to the last divider between the Orange line/parking lot entrance/exit. I have no problem with the scans, I rarely ever have a need for a pat down. I have more of an issue with the fact that the lines are inefficient and are still allowing s*** to get through. TSA needs better policies, management, etc, I think it's pretty visible how bad some of the processes are. Especially in international travel, the whole re-entry crap with the automated kiosks that don't actually do crap to save time because you still have to go through all the checks with a human being... You just know they spent millions on these systems and were sold crazy efficiency/security and instead they didn't think through the process and got stuck with a product that just made everything worse. That's crazy. I don't fly out of Midway a ton (probably 10-12 times the the last 3 years), but I've never seen that line go into the open area where the escalators are, much less past it to the area you mentioned. I was just there a couple weeks ago and it maybe took me 5 minutes to get through security, though that was on a Sunday afternoon.

    Airport Security

Where the heck are y'all flying in and out of? I travel 75% of the year for my job. I've never had a security line take me longer than 30 minutes. And I fly all across the country. ATL (my home airport and the busiest in the U.S.), LAX, SFO, San Diego, New York, Columbus, Cincy, Baltimore, Philly, Milwaukee, Miami, Houston, Denver, Chicago Midway. And those are just in the last 2 years. I don't even have pre-check, which has been stupid on my part. Luckily, my interview for Global Entry is this week and that comes with pre-check included. Looking forward to even shorter lines once I'm (hopefully) approved.

    Favorite High School Graduation Moments

QUOTE (Tex @ May 4, 2016 -> 02:53 PM) Test began at 8:00 am until 12:00. They were asked to arrive at 7:30 for registration, materials, etc. We normally start school at 8:50. There are two AP tests per day, one in the morning, one in the afternoon. So 8:00 to 12:00 and 12:30 to 4:30. It is a long day. Right on. That makes sense. I figured you guys normally started school sometime b/t 7:30-8:30, meaning a 6:00-7:00 start time for the test. But 8:00am test start isn't nearly as bad. Also, you have a 8:50am normal start time?? That's amazing. I would have loved that when I was in high school.

    Favorite High School Graduation Moments

QUOTE (Tex @ May 4, 2016 -> 12:24 PM) My AP students needed to be at school about an hour and a half early to take the AP test today. The other AP teacher and I hosted a tailgate party with breakfast in a quiet corner of your parking lot. It was pretty cool. That's pretty cool. I can't remember how AP exams work. As a teacher, do you schedule the test time? Or is it set by the AP folks? I ask because showing up 1.5 hours before school starts seems pretty early. If I was in your class, I'm not sure my brain would be fully functioning that early in the day.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 2, 2016 -> 08:32 AM) Sounds like we will be making a trip to Galveston TX this summer. We'll probably rent a house on the beach, see an Astros game, spend a day at the Johnson Space Center, take the Bolivar Ferry, and plenty of beach days. That's definitely a must. Very cool. So much to do - you could spend an entire day there.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 29, 2016 -> 04:41 PM) Yup for one day. Like I said, I'm sure this will be a big story for a few weeks/months and then once the game starts it'll be fine, it's really not going to be as bad as you guys think. But whatever, I guess we'll see. Completely agree. Though I don't think will even last months. I think it will fade after a couple weeks when some other big NFL news story occurs and everyone forgets. But really, what a move by the Dolphins. So many teams are going to look back in 5 years and wonder what the hell they were thinking by passing on Tunsil.

Great move by Pace to get two 4ths and only move down 8 spots. Lot of talent left in the 2nd round.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 28, 2016 -> 10:28 PM) I'm a huge fan of the Cards pick. For sure. It's a good spot for Nkemdiche. Veteran team, old school head coach who the players love, and Mathieu is there - they had a good plan for Mathieu a few years ago and he can help Nkem through the process if needed.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 28, 2016 -> 08:31 PM) Damn that sucks, sorry to hear about it, hopefully their insurance pays for you to get all new stuff. And I have come to expect that whenever I watch the Bears draft I will be sad, so I dont ever get my hopes up. It's all good. Honestly, it was a 2 day work trip so I didn't have much with me. No one was hurt, which is the important thing. Material things are replaceable.

My hotel burned down on Tuesday night and a bunch of my stuff was ruined. I was left standing in the rain for 2 hours, watching the hotel burn, before they would let me go to my car. I feel worse right now than I did that night.

    2016-2017 NFL Thread

This was worst case scenario. Completely awful pick. We spend a 4th round pick and completely blow the pick. Tunsil is right there. The top player in the draft. Who gives a s*** about weed. He didn't pop at the combine. He hasn't failed a drug test ever. I'm sure it won't be a problem for him in the NFL. Teams are so stupid - way overthinking this.

    2016-2017 NFL Thread

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Apr 28, 2016 -> 09:18 AM) In his game, no, but he does have off the field issues and he does have injury questions I wouldn't consider protecting his mom from an abusive stepfather nor having discussions with an agent as off-the-field issues. Unless there is something else I'm not aware of. The injury concern is fair, but breaking his leg is more of a fluke thing I think. And it didn't seem to bother him at all once he came back last year. Anyway, I do like Stanley but to me, there is a clear difference b/t the two of them. Stanley is still worthy of a Top 15 pick. Just not 3rd.

    2016-2017 NFL Thread

Happy Draft Day, everyone. I still don't get this Stanley over Tunsil talk. Tunsil was clear-cut #1 material for over a year, and then 1-2 weeks before the draft, he falls? I'm not sure I'm buying it. But if it does happen, they're a bunch of idiots. I like Stanley a lot, but Tunsil is as close of a sure-thing as you can find at LT. The dude is really damn good. He doesn't have any holes in his game. Why must NFL teams make it so difficult on themselves? No way Ramsey falls too far. I can't imagine any scenario where he makes it past 7 or 8 - even if those teams don't want him, someone will be trading up.

I really dislike the idea of Floyd at 11. I know his draft status is more based on projection, but I was never impressed with him at UGA. Dude didn't stand out in a single game I watched. That's not the type of thing you want with a guy in the Top 15.

    2016-2017 NFL Thread

Solid move by Cleveland. They need help at so many positions, and now they have 12 picks (6 in the Top 100). Yeah, a good QB can make a huge difference, but if they aren't enamored with any of the top guys, then by all means trade down. As others have alluded to, hopefully this forces a team to hop on Paxton Lynch before the Bears pick.

Bears have added some serious depth on the interior OL, and heck, we could still add another OT in the draft. I imagine Long moving to LT is a real possibility. Let them all battle it out in training camp and may the best 5 win. This is a nice problem to have after the last decade of OL issues.
