  1. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 02:40 PM) How can someone with that bad of numbers be considered a option to return for a year? A better stop gap can be found. Well, a cheaper one anyway, and that's enough of a reason for me. A bat or two will still need to be bought.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 05:26 PM) Johnson/Coats/Davidson all homer in the 1st Micah has found a bit of a power stroke. He does have more of a Ray Durham than a Juan Pierre type of upper body, so it will be nice if he's a little less slappy as a finished product in the bigs.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 12:25 PM) Outside of a Japanese or Korean (the Pirates were doing okay with Kang for awhile)...no answers. Maybe the Dodgers will deal the other Cuban with the super long name beginning and ending with an A that they acquired two years ago, but he would probably hit as well as Rey Ordonez or Rondon. A stopgap that can at least play D (Salad-man?) and wait/pray for Anderson may be the best approach. SS is a lot like C across the majors right now - the marginal upgrades available may not be worth the cost of the pursuit.
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 11:09 AM) Scoreboard Kanny already underway, tied at 2, Lowry on the mound for the I's CHAR EJohnson BHAM Jaye W-S Heidenreich GTF Banks AZL, DSL TBA Should be some good pitching today. So, EJ on the big club after the Shark trade, no? I want a two-month, at least, evaluation of EJ for a spot in next year's rotation, and truly DO NOT want to rely on ST 2016 for that determination.
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 10:48 AM) "Honey, have you seen my labrum?" "Your what?" "My labrum! I know it was here earlier, I saw it. What did you do with it?" "What did I do with it? Find it yourself!" "Dammit woman! Crap, now I need to find Nardi." Tito?
  6. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 10:33 AM) EJax wasn't pitching very badly. 3.19 ERA, 2.83 FIP. Strikeouts and walks weren't great but around career norms. Odd choice if you ask me, especially since you're adding a guy who is just as likely if not more likely to be cut in short order. They would only pitch him in the lowest possible leverage situations. When they put him into games that weren't already decided he wasn't up to it. Kudos to them for being willing to eat so much of what he's owed. They're not fooling around.
  7. Davidson falling off a cliff again. No need to see him on the South Side, now or ever, probably - he'd hit .150, maybe. Give Saladino 3B for awhile. Dude appeared to have some talent at one point. Amazing how little development of hitters ever takes place in this org. Or maybe not so amazing.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 01:53 PM) Fitting, what a terrible team. The remaining optimist in me is looking at the bright side that the question of selling is solidly answered.
  9. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 01:36 PM) Probably bring more in return than anyone else we have MT gone negative? Now I don't believe in anything anymore. You were my rock.
  10. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 01:23 PM) That's what I was thinking. Max and Marcellus did recently go over the double standard with Puig though. He runs into a wall to catch a ball, and they call him wreckless. Joc Pederson does it and they say "Oh look, Joc is giving up his body for the good of his team". Puig hits a homer and everyone acts like it's about time. They really neutered his personality and it's affected his passion for the game. Dodgers want pitching, Sox need hitters. I proposed a few weeks ago that they should be going after Puig. I think once he's on a different team, you'll see excitement from him again. Agreed in many respects, but, unfortunately, our clubhouse has not been a place for personalities to flourish. Hopefully that will change with a new staff next year.
  11. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 11:05 AM) Well done Spencer Adams and welcome to NC. Kanny is also in NC.
  12. The old added muscle nemesis was again the kiss of death.
  13. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 08:23 AM) There won't be a fire sale but I can see a few guys moved and Conor DFA. And so it is.
  14. Apologies if posted elsewhere, but apparently nothing wrong with Robertson yesterday, just another brilliant attempt at strategy by RV. Dude's in a league of his own. http://www.southsidesox.com/2015/7/19/8999...david-robertson Too bad he didn't do us a solid Sandberg and bow at the ASB.
  15. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jul 18, 2015 -> 02:37 PM) Those first inning runs came back to bite Q lol Has there ever been a team less ready when the lights go on? Other teams have a game plan against our pitchers, especially the divisional foes. They have learned more about us than we about them in the same games, and THAT folks is one of the clearest indictments of our coaching/managing. Unless you want to believe there's some kind of huge talent gap. The record against the rest of the league tells me there isn't.
  16. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 18, 2015 -> 02:31 PM) Is Chris Sale going to demand a trade if Flowers is released? Even if he did too bad. And more likely, Sale just hasn't worked with any semi-competent receivers outside of TFlow. It might be a revelation to him to find out that all the others aren't as bad as Phegley.
  17. Failure to put up a crooked number in any of these last 3 innings will probably cost. The fight is there, but Guthrie should already be toast. Guess I should be used to this by now.
  18. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jul 18, 2015 -> 12:18 PM) Donald Trump is guaranteeing another 8 years of Democratic rule in the WH. The angry (but not sure why) white man vote is his in the bag. And that may make him look good in Iowa and NH, but only there. And the hot-button immigration anger really only plays in AZ and CA. If they can't see how limited his appeal will be nationally, shame on them. I think the Dem oriented media will love covering him and calling him the front-runner. Big Oil and Defense may not have the resources this time around to decide the nominee ahead of the primaries as they did with W. So this could actually get interesting, and yes it virtually assures another 8 years of Dem rule - which, with the lack of a credible challenge from the right, is probably NOT a good thing for the country. But it WILL be a continuation of the bull market for pharma stocks, so there's that.
  19. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 18, 2015 -> 07:45 AM) Well, Coats hit better in high A than he did in A. He hit better in AA (2nd try) than he did in high A In AAA he's below AA, but there's still time He's got a touch of power. Interesting player. Well, let's not get carried away. Andy Wilkins OPSed 1200+ for a 3 month stretch last season, at the same age, and also never really failing badly at any level. And he's a doubtful MLBer, at best.
  20. Micah and Trey with nice showings. Micah really needs to be a part of a more dynamic offensive Sox infield to help get this team out of their doldrums. Gotta hope like hell the D is improving. My goodness, B'Ham has been a hot club lately.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 16, 2015 -> 01:20 PM) Great article. He can't be moved to the outfield for all the reasons you suggested. It's interesting how Micah has gone from being a savior type (Hawk's hype last year) to somebody considered laughably bad defensively and not even much of a hitter on the big league level. A month or so of big-league ball took the luster off Micah. Does anybody actually expect anything from him now? His reputation now seems to be a horrific defender with fantastic speed yet limited hitting skills as well. He was hitting Ok, and figures to get better, judging by the way he's currently raking in Charlotte. He has a chance to be a plus offensive player. It's all about getting his defense to a passable or better level.
  22. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 06:17 PM) another moronic move by the sox organization. I wanted to see him tonight, too. Figured they'd agree on 1 inning only, and there should be no prob inking Sale in for Sunday.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 01:00 PM) Trust me. Nobody is concerned about an advantage in a series against a lousy sox team. Hope sale gets the win tonite Dude, you're just wrong on this. The Sox relative threat to the Royals is irrelevant. Sale has a winning record on this lousy team - how does that happen? Royals haven't wrapped up jack.
  24. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 12:12 PM) 48-48 with 66 to play. No way Shark is traded. I could see Hahn trying to acquire a couple cheap bats if it doesn't cost much if the Sox are at .500 anytime before the deadline. Yep, so maybe an Aramis or even Uribe, depending on how things go for the Braves. Maybe both if they don't think Micah is ready. Who else is a candidate? Can't see them upgrading C, seeing the kind of cautious buyers they'll be, if they buy at all. Best move there might be trying to get a look at Kottaras. Maybe a pen arm? Melky and Eaton starting to hit. They won't give up on Avi so quickly. So what's left or what else might happen?
  25. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 10:29 AM) The Sox have the 20th off which could help alot. After the DH on the 17th DFA Boni and make Danks the long man in the pen. If the Sox really want to make a second half run then do what's best for the team and get Danks out of the rotation. 17th- Samardzija/ EJ for DH 18th- Q 19th- Sale 20th- off 21st- Rodon 22nd- Samardzija 23rd- Johnson 24th- Q 25th- Sale 26th- Rodon Agreed. Does 7-3 make them buyers?
