Hector is implying Nelson Cruz, we're along for the ride

How many of those 20 years have the Sox had a legitimate pennant contender? -

Right. Should be plenty of money to sign a bat and a SP. Embarrassing to not put the finishing touches on this roster. -
I can't see how the minor leagues can survive another season without games. Woof. And just give me an162 game MLB season. No more of this shortened season BS.

Kopech for Burnes doesn't really even make sense for either side. Seems to me like two teams trading very similar assets with close to the same control. To me, Kopech has more upside. Burnes has never thrown more than 115 innings in a season (which he threw in 2018), but last two have been 70 and 60. Its not like he can be relied on to go out and throw 200 innings in 2021 either. I also don't see why the Brewers would really want to do that deal as Kopech only has 1 more year of control (could end up being 2, but lets assume 1 cause that's current situation). Just doesn't make a ton of sense for either team IMO.

I would rather have Richards (or a litany of other SP options) than trade any (or multiple) of the 4 I mentioned for Burnes.
-
Burnes is a really nice arm that I'd love to have. But c'mon. I don't want to trade away major pieces of the future. Something like Cease, Stiever, Micker and Sheets..OK. But that's not going to be enough. I'd guess I'd be OK with moving Kelly just because he's so far away. Zero interest in trading any of Kopech, Madrigal, Vaughn, Crochet or major building blocks from MLB club for Burnes. I'd rather just spend $ on FA SP.....
-
I’d be pretty bummed if we traded Madrigal. He’s such an a amazing fit for this team.

This. I could do without Flowers and just let the in house guys have at the BU catcher role, but Quintana + LaStella seems like a no brainer.

Don't really care to read the 12 pages - is there anything to this? Cruz rumbling still the thought that the first page seemed to think? -
Sox sign Hendriks: 3/$39M - 4th year optional with $15M buyout
ChiSox59 replied to EvilJester99's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Awesome for the bullpen! Man that’s a big deal. If I’m reading this right, it’s basically a 4/$54M due to the buyout and option being the same price. Still a lot, but that makes it feel a little better! -

I'd love to have Hendriks, but my guess is I won't lose any sleep over the Sox missing out on him if he's getting anything more than like 3/$36M, which he will. -
The ship has likely sailed, but I would be in support of brining Rodon back for like 1/$2M. Can never have enough rotation options, and while he sucked out of the pen in a very SSS in 2020, I think he could be effective there with more work. Not a bad guy to have around. But I am sure he'd prefer a chance somewhere he's guaranteed a rotation spot, or at least a little easier to get one.
-
Don't love that plan, but I anything that keeps Crochet on the big league roster is a benefit for the 2021 club, no doubt.

This. / thread.

Not really. Plenty of room for another bat.
-
Could the Sox theoretically sign Colas for whatever it is they have left, and then have a handshake agreement to extend him a few months later so he gets closer to what he'd normally get? Or would that trigger a bunch of tampering / INTL spending limit rules?
-
A resounding yes. Kopech will be in the minors until at least June. He isn't going to throw 150+ innings this year. Stiever isn't ready. And I sure as shit don't want to rely on Reynaldo for 15 starts. So yes, we do.
-
Not really, but I would have brought him in along with Eaton or whoever else we signed.
-
Man $3M for Dahl would have been a home run.
-
The Sox don't need to sign a DH. They have Yermín Francisco Mercedes.

MARWIN GONZALEZ. -
Because I have eyes. Dunning will not be a bust, barring injuries that could happen to anyone. At worst, he's a rock solid backend SP controlled for 6 years and dirt cheap for 3.

Sox sign Adam Eaton 1 year, $7m plus option
ChiSox59 replied to Greek-konerko's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Except Brantley wouldn't really be an ideal fit for RF, unless they also acquired another OF like Dahl/Eaton, etc., Not too worried about missing out on Brantley. I don't want a clown show in the OF. -
This x1000. I like McCann. He was really good for the Sox. But we have one of the best 2-3 catchers in the game, and he's a horse. We need to ride him. McCann would be a poor use of resources on this team.

Yeah, there is a place for a guy that can actually play the OF serviceably. Not for a DH that can stand in LF and be just as bad as Eloy at it, but a far worse hitter. -

Lol, they're not bringing Vaughn up to ride the bench and only play against lefties and they aren't playing Schwarber over Vaughn once Vaughn arrives. If the Sox sign Schwarber, they clearly don't think AV is ready. Which goes against most of what we've heard from Hahn. Schwarber wasn't a fit pre-Eaton, and he's less of a fit now.
