  1. Past hour
  2. Conforto? Jeeze, that's landfill diving not even dumpster diving. You kick the tires too much around him, they're bound to explode.
  3. Should have gone in house with a guy who already knows the franchise for a quicker turnaround!
  4. Managing up is probably one of the most important attributes of any leader who is deserving of promotion/next steps in their career. If you can't manage up, you simply won't succeed. In Getz role, managing up now means getting his boss (ownership) to do uncomfortable things, sign bigger contracts etc. Never forget that the Padres weren't big spenders until Preller came in and sold ownership. Getz has the Sox running the lowest relative payroll since I followed the team. People are celebrating Getz selling a vision to a guy he is literally offering a promotion too. The promotion alone is the most valuable thing he's selling. It doesn't mean the guy isn't smart or capable. As I said, wouldn't have minded hiring him as our GM. Instead, that guy's now got an idiot above him that he has to overcome to succeed at his job.
  5. I've had situations where I had horrible leaders, and I've still succeeded in transformations and leading. All jokes aside, seems like a fine hire. Guy has a good background with nice success. Assistant GM's aren't really moving needles though in the baseball world, so most teams/fans wouldn't really be celebrating news like that. If he was our actual GM, maybe I'd be more excited. Instead, the guy we have is way in over his head as has been apparent for 2+ years now.
  6. Mainly because showing our front office some respect is not an easy thing to do for many people until the results start showing up on the diamond. But generally people are good with a former front office Tampa Bay executive being hired.
  7. And most of this has happened after he got rid of Grifol. I think his 1st year on the job was just familarizing just trying to evaluate the people who were still left from the old regime that he wanted gone and making some upgrades that were long overdue. After that came the major hirings that are still ongoing. I kept saying that fans dont really buy into structural changes . The backlash was always " we' ve heard all this before" and the running joke about the early KC hires. But it's pretty clear now that he's getting some respect. Im glad your post outlined as much as you can remember. Ive been doing it piecemeal throughout the process and felt the backlash because it just takes a while for most serious organizational practices to change the outcomes on the field. And without backing from ownership to put real money into the roster it's still a battle that is extremely difficult to win until it translates to sustainable success on the field, even moreso with Covid, labor disputes and interference from the meddling owner who never realized the importance of putting money into multiple layers of player development domestically and abroad. JR will get praised for having some high ( for him) payrolls but a lot of things got neglected when the player payroll was high.
  8. I lean more pessimistic myself and even I’ve gotten a bit tired of it.
  9. Old friends update… Twins signed RHP Dan Altavilla to a minor league contract. Chris Flexen has decided to head back to Korea, signing with the Doosan Bears.
  10. I both want it resolved, but I do get annoyed at the PR push. It's great the bears just want infrastructure support, but --come on -- they are already at a location that has infrastructure support. They are asking the state pay to help them move when it is their choice to move. In my world, because teams do not commit themselves to the state/city in these deals, I'd prefer the world where the NFL entity pays for these stadiums, and the owners are leased to the NFL, paying back with interest the investment of the NFL and back to those owners. The NFL would add real estate to its portfolio which it could use to gain access to more money for growth. But that' snot how it is, the teams beg for money then still threaten to leave. It's also an infrastructure project that has little utility WITHOUT the team...so it's just such a stupid world. But Chicagoland is certainly better with the bears, and there are economic benefits to having a team that go beyond dollars and cents. But f*** kevin warren and the mccaskeys. Fans are being exploited to drain every cent, then they want their political mind too.
  11. Font size intended as a Rorschach test. Either as a post of the absurd, or we are on the way to supplying the majors with surplus talent 🤤
  12. They must have erased those posts. I don't see anything like what he described.
  13. No options left but I’d take a flier on him. He definitely has power which the Sox lineup is sorely lacking.
  14. It’s interesting how the Sox seem to be on Boras’s list of teams to work with when it comes to his clients that are trying to have a career turnaround (Conforto). Just like Andrew Jones years ago.
  15. He reminds me of a closed off tighter in Big Hurt.
  16. Today
  17. I’m not so sure that SS2K5’s post was directed at you. I think it was directed at the poster who assumed his own role as board police. 🤣
  18. Going to bed. You guys can continue to argue Murakami, Getz vs. Rays' Way and Okamoto. Throw in some Michael Conforto debate for good measure.
  19. Maybe bigger font will accentuate the point even more? If only it would make it come true. Let's beat the Twins for fourth before worrying about juggernauts and possible dynasties. It has only been six years since the last budding dynasty.
