Baseball has proven time and time again that flying near the top and sustaining it like the Brewers and Rays (Astros and Padres too) is much much difficult than what the Baltimore Orioles, Royals/Tigers or 2019-21 White Sox accomplished. Not to mention Houston is still fired their GM Brown and likely manager Joe Espada too will go in a matter of weeks.

I'm picking two examples to not write a novel. The supposed goal was to not trade Bonemer or sell low on Carlson. So yes, the Nimmala package would have put a serious dent in our farm system. Robbie Ray's post-deadline work would have everyone screaming that Castillo was available. Boston Smith, Mason Adams and Vielma aren't the same level of prospect as Bonemer.

Your post is basically a bunch of excuse-making for Getz and his deadline moves. 1.) You don’t know what other starting pitchers would have cost but are throwing out names like Bonemer. There were also cheaper rentals available that were moved. If Getz only targeted non-rentals, that’s on him. Afterall, does anyone even want to see Castillo or Doyle next season? Everyone is wishing they were rentals right about now. 2.) GM’s add additional players at the deadline to account for their deficiencies, including factoring in slumps by players. Afterall, isn’t that one of the reasons Getz acquired Doyle? Because Peters was in a horrible slump? In any case, Getz’s deadline moves have been an unmitigated disaster and I have no idea how you can keep trying to excuse it. Post-deadline winning percentage was the first excuse. Then it was that the Sox are still in first place once their winning percentage fell to under .500 post-deadline. What’s the next excuse of these deadline trades? That they just won a game against the Cardinals? Yes, "f@#$%^ up big time" is accurate.

He’s still figuring things out. It was all part of Getz’s plan. He was an intended project plan at the deadline. You can’t review the trade as a failure until we see what he eventually becomes.

If it’s Sox staff members/interns being commented on…versus the typical banter of minor leaguers at a local Hooters after a game, two very different scenarios, like football players swooning over cheerleaders or Wonyoung from IVE (Kpop) throwing out the first pitch at Citifield in a barely there outfit and hearing catcalls from the dugout. Looking at the statcast for his release point, he's been tinkering with it ever since his 2nd start here. This was where he was at with the Mariners: Since he's gotten to the Sox, he's now dropped his arm angle to 15 degrees and widened his release point (-2.53 feet). The vertical release point hasn't changed much. He's been tinkering with the arm angle from start to start, starting with his start against the Reds. In his start against the Cubs, it got all the way down to 13.5 degrees, but it's been more or less fluctuating around 15 otherwise. I have to think that they're trying to alter his arm angle and release point to get a better shape to his slider. But it's straight up not working. Way too many of the ones he throws are not competitive. A side effect of the lower arm angle is lower velocity and we've been seeing that pop up in the past 3 starts. He was throwing as low as 90 in today's start. Keep in mind his fastball was averaging 95.3 MPH with the Mariners and the velocity looked pretty good in his first start against Boston. Feels like they were trying to fix Castillo, but now it's basically made him unplayable. His once good velocity is gone and you're not getting anything more out of his breaking or off speed pitches. He could at least somewhat get by on his fastball before, but now that's not there either. I don't know what made the Sox think they can turn around a struggling pitcher better than the Mariners could. After all, our poor pitching development is why we had to trade for a starter in the first place.

Agree. Will is an inflexible manager when it comes to splits. We need to play our hottest hitters like Peters and Grichuk regardless of the pitcher that we are facing.
