  1. Past hour

  2. Put it this way: If Ryan were slotted into the Sox rotation right now (assuming his hamstring was fine), I feel confident he’d easily be their second best starter instantly.
  3. Hopefully Adams is back in the 5 to 6 IP range.
  4. To be clear, Smith is athletic enough to the play the OF and he’s played there a ton this year. I think this trade is a strong indication the Sox don’t believe in his ability to stick behind the dish, but his bat could potentially play in LF with the way he’s been hitting. His fallback from catcher isn’t 1B/DH.
  5. To me, this move was made with the lockout looming. It looks like a large sum of money, but the lockout is going to make this deal much shorter and more digestable. I do think Castillo is the type of pitcher who needs a few tweaks. I watched one of his starts a few weeks back and I think his stuff is still good. We'll see.
  6. With such a young team, the post season can be overwhelming . just want someone who's been there maybe.
  7. With very little mileage on his arm.
  8. That’s not really a rule
  9. Feel like that's heavily weighted by dudes who are never going to come close to making it.
  10. Yes! He's a very recent convert to the position. We know the Sox put a high value on defense and pitch calling. They probably viweed him as a DH/1st baseman. If they plan on signing on Mune long term, not sure what his pathway is. Good teams trade promising prospects who don't have a pathway.
  11. 24 is the average player age in AA.
  12. Presently the Sox don't have to send anyone down with Castillo added to the team. Another move for a SP could be in the works. Fedde could be used as a spot starter or an opener to give the others a blow. Schweitzer/Murphy/Richards one of them is probably the odd man or they shut Noah down for the season.
  13. He's also in his upper 20s. IMO, you're no longer a prospect once you hit the age of 24.
  14. It also seems debatable on whether Smith is an actual catcher or not.
  15. The Sox will be paying him around $750,000 per start through next season so they need to get their money’s worth.
  16. After digesting the views on this thread and thinking about Castillo’s contract versus what they gave up for him and what may happen in 2027, I’m indifferent on this move. The cash they are spending may not make sense if they are tapped out after this. They should have more to spend but we will see. I want to see how Castillo performs because he has had some positive starts this year despite his high ERA and getting lit up in other outings. I don’t like giving up Boston Smith, but he is 23, they do have some catchers when Teel is healthy and can still make a move for a catcher at the deadline. Trading Dominguez after signing him this offseason and not having him be completely effective as a closer is fine with me. I want to see the larger picture when Getz is finished at this deadline, see what other teams gave up for pitching and see where they are at by the end of the year before I judge this trade even further.

  18. I’m hoping they work with him a couple of side sessions and hold him off until Cleveland.
  19. I hope they see something they can fix easily.
  20. Seems like they gave up actual value to take on an underwater contract. Not a fan of this deal, but Castillo could certainly change my mind.
  21. Ryan get is sneaky good because you'll never have to pay him, he has very limited innings on his arm since he was a position player, and you're acquiring his best years with basically no development left to do.
  22. Looks like Castillo should pitch at some point during the Red Sox series. My guess is it will be him on Tuesday followed by Martin & then Burke. I’m going to Wednesday game so looks like I’ll miss his start.
  23. So Smith is a top 25 prospect in the MLB?
  24. Yep, it was the Dodgers’ 6th, 9th, and 27th best prospects. But that’s what’s nice about having a ton of money and an insane farm system for this very purpose.
