  1. Past hour
  2. Looks like he’s still tweeting within the past day, unless that’s someone else. Hopefully, Larry is alive and well. He was always a funny fucker.
  3. That pic fits extra well in the thread considering that's Jared from Subway and Wander Franco came up.
  4. I think he might have died. He was over at Jim's site for a year or two after SSS cratered but I haven't seen him recently. His twitter is still up. He was always good for pouring cold water over the White Sox org.
  5. If so, probably saw the writing on the wall there and wanted to move on. Seems like a lot of the really good front office talent is gone from the Rays now, plus their impending sale likely means a lot of changes at the top.
  6. Bankruptcy 😂 Name calling? Are you Chris Getz? The way you defend Getz is honestly worthy of a restraining order pal. Telling some guy who doesn't want to invest in the team that he'll cut spending to the floor if he just gives him a few pennies (relatively) for some tech and back office resources is not managing up. I can't speak for the titles and levels within the Rays, but his role is expanded with the White Sox, there are fewer VP's/aGM's around him increasing his scope of impact and responsibility, and dare I say the path to GM with the White Sox is much cleaner/more possible than the path to GM of the Rays. Maybe they promised or stated he was next up. Either way, without knowing the details I'd be skeptical that he was moving over without an enhancement of money and responsibility. Edit: He was also unemployed.
  7. Fegan reports that he'll help with player and agent relations and 40-man management.
  8. Supposedly he stepped down but who really knows? https://www.wfla.com/sports/rays/rays-vice-president-announces-departure-after-15-years/
  9. we need larry from SSS to post one of his dead horses and lock the thread.
  10. Nothin' like eating some lunch and watching Soxtalk at each other's throats over an assistant GM hire!
  11. I suppose having a job is a promotion from not having a job, so technically, he's right.
  12. Sounds like Getz managed up in order to clean house, remake the entire organization. I'm sure Getz has gone over plans and budgets with Reinsdorf and has parameters he will act within. No, the job of the GM is not to force the owner of the team into bankruptcy. Rodriguez was Asst GM in TB, and he's asst GM here. A good boss is confident hiring people more knowledgeable and experienced than they are. When you resort to name-calling, you lose credibility. You should incorporate that fact into your Ted-talk.
  13. In a sense by owning the team for these many decades JR has brought some stability to the franchise. Like all of us he's a complicated guy who has done some very good things from a community/charitable standpoint. From a baseball standpoint he has done things that make you go, 'what could he be thinking of?'
  14. Right in the White Sox wheelhouse for free agency.
  15. I think it can't be stated enough that Getz emphasizes a team effort in many important decisions . There are scouts and heads of departments and analytical data people who are all likely consulted on player acquistion. Getz just doesnt wake up one morning and say to Carlos Rodriguez hey do you want to be Asst.GM ? This could've been in the works since he lost his last job. I'm sure someone keeps track of execs from other clubs and their histories, like a scouting report of executives. One guy cannot be an expert in all facets of creating what Getz is trying to create and he's likely aware of his weak points. This is why you surround yourself with people with good reputations in other areas of team and culture building.
  16. Conforto? Jeeze, that's landfill diving not even dumpster diving. You kick the tires too much around him, they're bound to explode.
  17. Should have gone in house with a guy who already knows the franchise for a quicker turnaround!
  18. Managing up is probably one of the most important attributes of any leader who is deserving of promotion/next steps in their career. If you can't manage up, you simply won't succeed. In Getz role, managing up now means getting his boss (ownership) to do uncomfortable things, sign bigger contracts etc. Never forget that the Padres weren't big spenders until Preller came in and sold ownership. Getz has the Sox running the lowest relative payroll since I followed the team. People are celebrating Getz selling a vision to a guy he is literally offering a promotion too. The promotion alone is the most valuable thing he's selling. It doesn't mean the guy isn't smart or capable. As I said, wouldn't have minded hiring him as our GM. Instead, that guy's now got an idiot above him that he has to overcome to succeed at his job.
  19. I've had situations where I had horrible leaders, and I've still succeeded in transformations and leading. All jokes aside, seems like a fine hire. Guy has a good background with nice success. Assistant GM's aren't really moving needles though in the baseball world, so most teams/fans wouldn't really be celebrating news like that. If he was our actual GM, maybe I'd be more excited. Instead, the guy we have is way in over his head as has been apparent for 2+ years now.
  20. Mainly because showing our front office some respect is not an easy thing to do for many people until the results start showing up on the diamond. But generally people are good with a former front office Tampa Bay executive being hired.
