  1. Past hour
  2. 4 When given a 5 point scale, it's very easy to give 3.5/5. Which counts as a positive at rottentomatoes, but not exactly a wholehearted endorsement. Kpop Demon Hunters is the best movie of the year. My students kept on pushing me to watch it and talking about it so much that I finally gave in and acquiesced. Train Dreams is pretty darned close to #1, and that has a lot of historicity to it, as well as the two fun Sisu movies. There's also the Chinese film Dead to Rights, about the Nanjing 1937 massacre, and Last Samurai Standing, which I think is the best 8 episode action show of the year. Finally, there's The Diplomat, which was recommended in the TV section, blew through three seasons in just two days.
  3. JR usually believes in forcing players or coaches to perform until at least that final contract year hits. Unfortunately. Maybe Leury was the lone exception, but that was a tiny AAV in play there.
  4. Is that a 4 or 5 star system? I thought I wasn't going to like Death by Lightening (and I wouldn't recommend to non-history buffs), but Matthew MacFayden as Guiteau grew on me.
  5. At least $60-75 million of the debt is being paid off by Ishbia. Nobody knows the exact numbers, like they have put out there in Minnesota.
  6. Dream on lol. He was willing to give an $8 million per year discount? Not even Carlos Rodriguez could pull that off...and they were pretty close apparently.
  7. The movies section has died and people are always looking for things to watch during the holidays.
  8. One of my favorite articles is from Grantland and it boils down to "Mark Buehrle is so elite at defense and keeping batters on their toes that he succeeds." The Curious Case of Mark Buehrle
  9. So, the White Sox probably had him for 2/$10M based on the exciting culture they're building, but he had to turn them down due to his illness. That's cool.
  10. Nobody's winning 300 again, and 3000 Ks might be way less frequent. Buehrle is certainly "borderline".
  11. Today
  12. Seriously doubt that the Sox are worthy of a new park given the myriad of obstacles facing Ishy. Least of all being lack of interest by the public.
  13. That makes sense. I worked with a guy who had Raynaud's. He worked in a commercial cooler (eventually left) and it was debilitating for him. Dude wore heated gloves and it still didn't help. I remember he would go to the restroom for 5 minutes just to run his hands under warm water.
  14. As a big Hall person, I'm fine with Harold because I think he just straddles the line enough that it lowers the floor a bit. There's enough shitty people in the Hall that I don't mind it get diluted. It would also allow for guys that counting stats don't necessarily love, like Buehrle or Joey Votto, to have a stronger shot.
  15. As someone surrounded by Mets family, friends and co-workers, I want the Luis Robert Mets jersey after they failed to re-sign Quintana (who I would have gotten)
  16. The new kid gets double kudos for using English and sending me a check. Maybe he can learn LouBob a few tricks. I would consider extending 88 given his reduced market position.
  17. He had a 119 wRC+ against RHP in the second half of the season last year. He has sneaky speed and was ok defensively in CF in his first go at it based on advanced metrics. To me, there is a very useful player here. His fWAR was bad because of poor defense in many other spots (mostly OF corners), but I think with time that will change. I think his floor is a quality utility guy and his ceiling is a first division regular if he can find a spot where he can excel.
  18. The White Sox OF situation after Luis Robert is terrifying, so Baldwin gets it.
  19. Here's mine: DH - Quero (R) C - Teel (L) SS - Montgomery (L) CF - Robert (R) 1B - Murakami (L) LF - Sosa (R) - see if he can manage LF better than Benintendi. 3B - Vargas (R) RF - Baldwin (S) 2B - Meidroth (R) I want the power concentrated in the middle and to get Quero's OBP up top. I think Meidroth is the perfect "second lead off" guy in that he could move Sosa, Vargas and Baldwin over while also getting on base for Quero, Teel and Colson. Benintendi: Banished to the shadow realm.
  20. Sosa isn’t going to lead the team in HR’s & RBI’s with Colson up for a full season and with the addition of Murakami. Not suggesting we get rid of Sosa, but being the team lead last year is somewhat arbitrary given injuries, promotion dates, and player profiles. The bigger issue with making Sosa the everyday 2B is he did most of his damage against LHP. I still like Meidroth’s potential value vs. RHP more than Sosa’s when you factor in all facets of the game.
  21. Honest question about Baldwin: What’s the intrigue with him? I feel like I’m in the minority in that I find him really underwhelming. And for the record, I’m glad that I’m in the minority. I trust a bunch of yall seeing something in him more than I trust myself not seeing it. But I just don’t what “it” is.
  22. As has been pointed out by others he has been in the Sox system since 2016 and still doesn't know what to do defensively and in baseball situations in the field. That's a problem. If you wish to keep him, that's fine. he's your new full time DH.
  23. Apparently Fairbanks wanted to pitch somewhere warm because of his Raynaud's syndrome. He would have struggled in April/May in Chicago if that's the case.
  24. On a slightly different topic but referring to Garfien's lineup, isn't it nice to see a Sox lineup without the 3 or 4 terrible bats at the end of the order. How long has it been since the Sox had a lineup with real bats batting 7th, 8th, and 9th? Tooooo long.
