Why would you DFA Thorpe? First, there is still some obvious fat on the 40 man roster. Joe Rock, Tyler Davis, & Tyler Gilbert should be amongst the first guys to go. Second, he has all three options remaining and worst case scenario can serve as important depth AAA to start next season. Obviously it would be great if he could force his way into a rotation spot sooner, but he can still play an important role regardless.

The only sorta underlying metrics that are out of wack from the rest of his career are groundball/flyball ratio and pull%. He’s not hitting the ball harder or striking out less; bat speed, barrel%, etc are pretty much the same. Do steroids make pull the ball in the air better but affect nothing else? Seems like he learned something helpful. Considering the rest of the Red Sox offensive success, maybe they have a pretty good hitting coach.
