  1. Past hour
  2. They shouldn’t do something dumb for the sake of doing something haha
  3. If they take on the whole deal, they will expect something. Unlike Jerry, they are almost certainly eating cash to improve returns.
  4. My feeling on Mead versus Sosa is, neither will be a regular starter. An infield utulity man should have a good glove. So I think Mead is the guy betwen the two.
  5. Fair. I would like to see the Kelenic’s and Pereira’s of the world at least earn a roster spot in spring training though. It shouldn’t just be handed to them.
  6. I’d rather give those at-bats to Periera. Former top 100 prospect with multiple plus tools coming of a 128 wRC+ season in AAA and who has only had 176 major league plate appearances to date. Much better use of playing time IMO and right now I’d much rather him get the at-bats than Kelenic.
  7. Well I’m not in favor of giving up assets for him, but I saw a tweet where Nightengale said the Phillies will have to eat basically the entire contract just to get rid of him. If the Sox give up nothing and take him on for 1 year/$2 or $3 million, I wouldn’t hate it.
  8. He has, and that's what I'm trying to get at - if Benny sees increased time at DH, that automatically gives both Teel/Quero less time together in the same lineup.
  9. Giving up assets for Castellanos is the exact opposite of what this franchise should be doing.
  10. I see no way that Teel & Quero get significantly less playing time than they did last year. Combined they had 973 PA’s across AAA and the minors. The White Sox only had 654 PA’s from their catchers combined like year. If you’re keeping both, you have to find a way to get them another 300+ PA’s and that means both playing at the same time about half the time. My guess is Benintendi splits time between DH and LF in hopes of less outfield usage keeping him healthier and making him less bad out there. That would probably open up enough at-bats for Teel & Quero at DH. But again, they both have to be in the lineup or else we are just wasting them.
  11. Today
  12. I'd play both, but I don't think it's a slam dunk will see both in the lineup on a regular basis. If they think that freeing up the third catcher spot to another position player makes more sense for their roster flexibility, I think they will do so. I think that's also why we've heard so many rumors about them shopping Quero - because they realize the excessive value they have behind the plate, and wanted to see if they could pivot that value to another position of need instead of possibly wasting it on the bench.
  13. Probably the better option, I’m just bored and want them to do something.
  14. Ewww. He can’t play defense and his hitting is getting just as bad.
  15. Hasn’t Getz said Benni is going to DH more? It sure seems like it’ll be 2 catchers. I don’t like that idea but yeah, it would probably be a platoon with Quero getting some ABs against righties (it would be unavoidable with days games after night games and more righties).
  16. I’d rather play Kelenic and Baldwin for those few weeks/month
  17. Just to be clear, you think the Sox are going with a straight catcher platoon and won’t regularly have Teel & Quero in the lineup at the same time?
  18. I think that's we differ - I don't really see Benny being the everyday LF. He just seems too broken and frankly too atrocious out there. I would assume it's increasingly likely we don't see Teel and Q both playing at the same time like we did at the end of last season. Venable doesn't seem to like having both of them in the lineup, and Romo (+ his option flexibility) really makes Lee expendable now. If we assume that ends up being the case, then they won't be carrying three catchers, and you gain another bench spot. You can get a lot of playing time for all those guys you mentioned if you have a rotating DH spot. I don't think this is that crazy to see as an opening day setup: LF - Baldwin/Kelenic/Periera CF - Robert RF - Kelenic/Periera (this works as a platoon) DH - Benintendi BN - Hill (defensive replacement and pinch runner in late in close games + Robert's eventual replacement when he inevitably gets hurt again)

  20. I’m talking myself into Nick Castellanos if the Phillies eat most or all of his contract.
  21. I’m not sure what stats you are looking at, but Mead has been a +.200 ISO guy for almost the entirety of his minor league career despite being well below league average in terms of age. He is a two time Baseball America top 100 prospect who has always been considered to have above average raw power. As a 21 year old in AA & AAA he was on pace for ~20 HRs if he would have had 500 PA’s. These takes on Mead are just flat out wrong. Yes, he has sucked in ~500 major league PA’s across parts of three seasons with a 77 wRC+ to date, but guess what? Young players can get better with reps & time. Imagine having this same conversation a year ago about Sosa when he had a 66 wRC+ in 578 PA’s across three seasons. And Sosa was never half the prospect that Mead was. I’m not guaranteeing a turnaround here by any means, but these are the types of guys you buy low and sell high on and if you like Mead (whom the Sox went out and acquired) there is some logic to the set of moves in question.
  22. He's also owned some very successful restaurants from what I understand. I think in the Phoenix area if I remember right.
  23. I understand what Benetti asked for and why the Sox were not in agreement. Benetti just became too valuable of a commodity to restrict his work to one team. Good for him. Schriff is a relative youngster in his profession. I give him a lot of credit for trying to fill the shoes of Benetti, one of the best in the country who built a local following here in his home town.
