  1. Past hour
  2. I just think they’ll add a veteran OF to the mix, even if it means he’s on the bench.
  3. A $5 mill outfielder would just be a blocker and make things worse. Don’t have enough to get a good player, so they are entering “spending just to spend” territory.
  4. When I used to read Boers’ column in the Sun Times, I didn’t like him - mostly because he always ripped the teams I liked (Bears, Bulls, Sox, ND). He was especially hard on ND and Lou Holtz when they were good in the late 80s/early 90s. I eventually felt that he was correct, and though I’m still fond of those ND teams, his assessment of Lou Holtz was spot on IMO. After college, I had a job that allowed me to listen to the radio all day. I’d start with Stern and Brandmeier, then North and Jiggets, then Heavy Fuel Cruel until the Score signed off. Made my days fly by. HFC embraced “Who You Crappin?” and made it a sometimes hilarious segment rather than the hosts being embarrassed that Ditka essentially called Boers out for flip flopping on Ditka showing emotions on the sidelines. The ability to give and take criticism was what made the early Score great. I felt like Boers & Bernstein didn’t have the same ability to take criticism, so I stopped listening and moved the ESPN with McNeil. But I always remained a Boers fan. Now, I rarely listen to sports talk radio. I feel like when someone passes, so does a part of me. It’s been 30ish years since I listened to him regularly, but I’m forever fond and grateful to Boers for the countless hours he entertained me in print and radio. RIP.
  5. Unless I’m missing something, your pipeline rankings are off. Shultz is 49, Bonemer is 61, Smith is 72.
  6. January 24, 2003 - Sometimes luck plays a part in things...sometimes a very big part. On this date, Sox G.M. Kenny Williams signed free agent pitcher Esteban Loaiza to a contract. Loaiza was expected to round out the back end of the rotation...he did more than that. By season’s end he had won 21 games, started the All-Star Game and led the A.L. in strikeouts with 207. His ERA was 2.90. He could have won the Cy Young Award but a pair of 1-0 losses to Detroit appeared to be the difference in doing so. He ended up second in the voting. The next year he was traded to the Yankees at midseason, for pitcher Jose Contreras…another deal that worked out to the White Sox advantage! He was reacquired off of waivers by the Sox on June 4, 2008 and appeared in three games before being given his release and retiring.
  7. As Ralph Kramden once said, "Let me have what your drinking, I want to get loaded too..."
  8. And they reward him by never spending the money he saves them.
  9. I wonder how much Hays will even get at this point. It’s getting close to ST and so many guys haven’t signed yet and don’t seem to have much leverage. I could see Tauchman having to take a minor league deal at this point.
  10. I’m guessing Benintendi and Baldwin will get most of the at-bats against RHP’s anyway. Not sure about RF, maybe Kelenic if he makes the team. Either way, Hays feels like a natural fit for this roster especially against LHP.
  11. Boers was good. Really enjoyed his writing and then the radio gig. RIP
  12. Regardless, he’ll probably be more in their price range. Like I said, if guys like Baldwin hit and Montgomery comes up, he’s likely shifting to the bench anyway. And regardless if Acuna or Baldwin hit or not, they should still be in.
  13. I see Hays as a better version of Austin Slater, who I thought did pretty well and served a purpose last year.
  14. Sorry, massive typo. Yes, Hayes has always been good against LHP. The problem he is bad to well below average aging RHP now or at least the last two years.
  15. Sorry, I made my post backwards. His value is against LHP.
  16. Hays hit .319 with a .949 OPS against LHP last year, granted it was a fairly small sample. Nobody knows what the outfield will look like on Opening Day, but it’s hard to imagine there not being a good number of at-bats for a guy like him.
  17. Ah. I just assumed he was better against LHP. Edit: actually, he had a .949 OPs against lefties last year. .941 on 2024. .786 in 2023 but it was close to what it was against RHP
  18. Hayes can’t hit RHP though…his value is entirely against LHP. If we add another OF, do you really want a short side platoon bat? What do you envisioning the OF playing time mix looking like if we add Hayes?
  19. I think adding a guy like Hays would be good for both him and Benintendi. You could cherry pick matchups for both and give both more rest in hopes of keeping them healthy.
  20. Honestly thought the limits were still tiny for these so I dont really count them (last I checked they were $50 for me) but I looked now and I see a 7k+ limit so line is pretty reasonable at this point. Sox have second lowest projected win total ahead of only the Rockies so me calling them the 3rd worst team was actually complimentary. Of all win projections released, sportbook o/u are by far the most predictive. Eddy doesnt appear to understand market dynamics.
  21. Yep. They are very left handed heavy right now (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing), but some balance would be nice. There would be plenty of at-bats for him to give guys like Benintendi a day off against lefties.
  22. He’s probably the only decent OF left since Bader will be overpaid. Not sure if Hays would be worth signing though. He seems pretty injury prone like Tauchman. If he comes cheap, sure.
  23. Yeah and Hays naturally slides in a platoon role if other guys rise up and Montgomery comes up.
