Twins pulled a Sox: Buxton didn't go down, so they are down a man tonight.

Yeah, but the guys you'd count on to be strikeout pitchers (Burke, Urquidy & Castillo are all above 9 SO/9 with the Sox) have been unable to put anyone away in recent starts. The guys without big stuff (Kay and Fedde) have been our best pitchers.

They are the only team in the AL I'd think we wouldn't have more than a 40/60 chance against. The top of their rotation in a short series will be hard to beat. I'd say we'd be heavy dogs, like +400 or something to win the series whereas maybe +150, 175 against Rays or Boston. At least in my odds.

The problem is we have a lot of mediocre to bad pitchers on the staff that do not own put away type stuff. They don't have to worry about pitches they can't get a bad on.

Yeah, foul balls and borderline takes not going our way have been a routine theme with our starters lately. Either our pitch sequencing is totally atrocious, or hitters are sitting fastball and getting away with it because they don't have to worry about any of our starters' offspeed pitches.

Part of it has been awful BABIP luck but part of that is inability to put batters away with 2 strikes. He really needs to have that good changeup going tonight. His stuff looks fine to me, but batters are picking up his fastball without many issues even at 96. Hopefully he can give us 5 good innings tonight. Twins pitching overall sucks, 5 innings 3 runs allowed for Castillo should give us a solid chance to win.

Yeah, but its not guaranteed the Yankees and/or Red Sox will win their Wild Card series. That's what Id be banking on. The Red Sox are a nightmare for us but not necessarily teams with better pitching.

What’s additionally interesting (at least to me) is the architecture going into these new stadiums. Vegas’ design is modeled after the Sydney Opera House. Tampa’s design has a fixed, transparent roof that I believe is the first of its kind in all of professional baseball. The Royals aren’t as innovative, as they’re mostly just remaking Kauffman, but I can respect the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” attitude. Though a Comiskey-esque design (like the one on the formerly leaked Amtrak renders) would be an instant classic, maybe the Sox will join the former two in the new era of stadium designs.

Honestly, I don't think it matters who they have pitching for them. I think there is zero chance they could beat the Rays, Yankees, or Red Sox in a 7 game series if they even got past their first series.

I hope the last three games won't be a factor and the Sox will have a chance to line up their pitching the way they want it. Remember how 2008 turned out?

I think they'll hold on to win the division just based on how bad all the teams are in it. Ending the season with 3 home games against the worst team in baseball is probably going to be huge.

If there are weaknesses on the Sox in terms of position players...they're corner outfield, catcher and DH related. That's relative to expected big league average production from those spots...Antonacci is due to his defense and lack of HR power, although it has improved over time. Ofc those are two rookies and then you have the Benintendi contract...he's been okay at DH but have needed Grichuk to level up against lefties (for Ant/Benintendi). Recently, Colson and Mune, but they're not being replaced anytime soon.

They plan to break ground on the new stadium in September. It'll be an interesting few years coming up with the A's stadium already half built and opening in 2028, the Rays new stadium projected to be open in 2029, and the new Royals stadium (which looks very likely to happen at this point) being planned for 2031.....not to mention possibly two new expansion teams and stadiums by then too.
