The dude has 26 strikeouts and 0 walks in 74 plate appearances with the Sox, while they have been primarily starting him against lefties. He’s an absolutely putrid hitter.

Brazoban and Castillo failures have led to this demise, as much as Mune/Kolson/Braden and Venable's "pretty much every move works out as badly as possible" managing.

Just looking at the game logs for Castillo here, it’s crazy how much stress he’s put on the relievers. Already saw two games where Hagen and Taylor had to pitch almost 4 combined innings in a game.

Lack of quality starting pitching finally caught up with them at the worst possible time. Last night was just an extremely painful example of it. You have an 8-2 lead in the 3rd but your starter can only go 4 leaving a tired bullpen to cover 5 innings. And even though the offense didn't score after the 3rd if your starter gives you 7 strong innings 8 runs is enough to win that game. The Sox lead the AL in runs scored. If they had any quality starting pitching they win the AL Central going away.

Doyle hasn't even been a complete disaster...he's rounding into at least a useful player with around a .650 ops, great defense arm speed and XB power. Or basically, everything Acuna was supposed to have been... It's that Castillo move that really sticks in the craw. Worst of all, to be stuck with him again on the team next year seems almost cruel fate at this point...you just know they'll put him in the rotation again in an attempt to extract some value, and it will just about kill their April/May record.

Let's just hope the Rockies have completely packed it in the last series.

Getz gets a solid B for the first half based on the constraints hehe had. But a F for trade deadline and beyond. Venable gets a C so far. Makes the playoffs is an A or B. Misses and it's a D

The Bart trade wasn’t bad either. He just unfortunately got injured after 4 games. However, the two big trades were horrific.

Yes, and you called it before the trade deadline that Getz needed to acquire two starters. I didn’t think he would get two because he didn’t want to pay the cost. But that’s what makes the Doyle trade look even dumber. Not only did he trade away prospects for a position of not much need (CF), he traded away a starter option and didn’t get a starting pitcher back.

I don’t blame Getz for Brazoban. That is a case where the pitcher has just underperformed. The Castillo trade is one I will never understand. Crippling for 2026 and 2027.

Disagree. The Castillo is one of the worst trades I have ever seen on paper in my 42 years on this planet. Made no sense at the time and it might cost us a playoff spot. Doing nothing would have been better than adding him. I have been a staunch Getz defender all season, but last night was my breaking point. Watching a team in desperate need of SP wither & die after an early 8-2 lead while Castillo was nowhere to be found was the nail in the coffin. There is no question he failed this team at the deadline and has weakened them going into 2027. I’m glad he held onto Bonemer and didn’t go “all in”, but I can’t otherwise comprehend his set of moves. Thinking you can fix broken players mid season while in the middle of a playoff push reeks of arrogance or stupidity. Just too hard for me to ignore how mind boggling the Castillo & Doyle moves were.

He wasn't rock solid but he had his moments, just ask the Cubs. Instead he was cut and they kept Castillo who is so bad he's not even being used.

Post of the year. Part of the issue with Sox fans as others have pointed out is the low tolerance for what constitutes "success." I'm as guilty of this as anyone. I'm just hoping for a winning season and given the Sox have only had five of those since the start of 2007, you can see why. My point is though that in places like New York, Philly, Boston the fan base would be (almost literally) rioting in the streets. Here though some folks who have shown to be responsible for good, solid information and have access that others don't have, appear to be making excuses, blaming fans who are upset (having Rick Hahn flashbacks) and passing what has happened off as 'one of those things.' Again I use the saying that "the Sox make the post season as often as a Republican wins the mayorship of Chicago." You can understand why the fan base got invested and excited with a team that had a real shot only to see the front office decide for whatever reason it wasn't going to happen. The thing is it still may, we can only hope, but even if it does, they will have had to fight for their lives the last few weeks and will probably be completely spent if they have to play Cleveland or Houston on the road. short of a miracle.

McDougal was awful after getting sent down

People do realize this is a thread from 2023, right. But it has become the go to thread for people when they are rightfully upset with Getz' moves. I think everyone knows he's not being fired. Maybe the mods should change the title to "post here your frustrations with Chris Getz"

I'm also curious as to why Lightfoot thinks the community will win this fight. Amtrak has a federal exemption, they're building an indoor maintenance facility on a railyard that's been there for 100 years and saw activity as recently as 2019, they need to modernize their Chicago operations. Unless it comes out that Amtrak is doing something illegal here or is falsifying data or something like that, what's the basis for stopping this project? Because people in the neighborhood are shouting loud enough into TV cameras?

How is it that McDougle and Thorpe have not been called up? Is our system so weak that we don’t have any pitching that can at least help a staff that is in desperation mode? We don’t have AAA or AA pitchers who could have helped protect a 6 run lead?

If they finish the season the way they've been playing the rest of this month, I don't see how he gets Manager of the Year. The team collapsed.

I liked the Castillo trade and thought it made sense. I also was hoping for another good starter and said they were short at the time. In hindsight, I totally understand why it didn't happen because they weren't interested in trading prospects for rentals.
