How is this move possible? Is there a grace period for trades where a dude only counts against the team 40 man roster and the 26 man?

On paper this deal looks pretty much like a wash. They are taking on around 14 mil in added payroll. We have to hope that Castillo will have a positive bump in performance with the change of scenery. He is leaving a team that has been a huge disappointment this year and coming to a team that has been just the opposite. I guess I look at it as it is better than nothing. I absolutely don't want the Sox giving up any of their top prospects unless their getting an all star with control in return. Realistically these are the only kind of deals the Sox can and should make right now.

I think/ hope the Sox can do with Castillo the magic them seem to be able to conjure up with veteran pitchers: Fedde, twice (Why Fedde is only good for the White Sox is an interesting question). Adrian Houser who was ungood for Tampa Bay Remember Johnny Cueto? They turned him around for that one year. If the Sox can do that with those guys, you gotta believe they can really do something with Castillo. Also, I don’t think it’s crazy comparing trading away Smith with trading away Tatis Jr. for fear of regretting what he might become.

I agree. Best at this point is to let it play out, at least until the end of the trade deadline, and maybe even until Schultz has another start. Noah came within one bad pitch of keeping the game scoreless which could have put that game into extra innings. As Plesac commented, Noah was very aggressive in the strike zone when he had to be. You can teach some pitchers how to grip and throw a baseball, but you can't teach the leverage he has from his 6'10" frame.
