I'm conveniently making a point that Detroit had a payroll more than double that of the White Sox and will finish behind us in the standings. Perhaps you want to change the focus to the price of milk shakes so that you don't have to focus on the simple fact that the Sox are getting more out of less payroll.

Tiger payroll is about $130M larger than the White Sox' this season. I'm sure there's gonna be a hell of a parade in downtown Detroit for that. Keep rooting for payroll. I'll root for wins.

You guys regularly fart on every string with a hearty, "just look at the history, that'll never happen..." The Sox have been high bidder on players who had a market. They've extended guys like Buehrle, Danks, Lynn, they won bidding on Thome and Dunn, matched Konerko's market offer from the Angels. They also tried to get ahead of the market and wrap up guys like Yoan, Eloy, Robert and TA7. Didn't work out, but they sure spent that money. Do they pull in 3 top FAs every off-season? No, that would be bad business. It's stupid to keep filling the roster with guys at the top of their market for contracts that demand top dollar for 1-2 healthy seasons, then 4 more under average ones. We'll see what Getz's model looks like, but I'd imagine it's develop from within, then fill holes. Signing the largest contract doesn't have a banner that hangs forever. Championships do.

The game has changed. In year 2000, 37 pitchers cleared 200 IP. In 2026, 39 have cleared 160. The model is guys who average 5 IP a game, maybe with an opener. It makes more sense for Taylor to come in and face 1-6 in the 7th and 8th inning than to save him for 7-9 in the 9th. Trevor Richards can pitch to the bottom of the order.

You've generally made the point that the Sox denigrate employees when they leave the org. While I don't totally agree with that, this feels like a sitch where either the team let people talk off the record, or somebody who felt their path was blocked due to Shirley's various bigotries decided to vent. It usually takes the connected people here asking around and getting a hint after a while. To @Paulie4Pres 's comment about getting fired vs. resigning, either way, he's most probably not holding a job in MLB again. At least not a visible one.
