  1. I don't get that whole mindset. So many articles have been written by dudes who make a living tracking and caring about this stuff. And they surmise the price for Cease will be 2 top 100's maybe one right behind that, and a lotto ticket. I haven't seen anything written anywhere that shows grave concern about a possible injury or old age that skewed Cease's 2023. It's all about mechanics that are easily worked on, and 2022 is a view of what his ceiling is.
  2. I'm heartened by the notion of making the team better just by plugging in guys who will catch and throw the ball correctly, and not plugging in guys like, well, Anthony Benintendi, one of those "kenny always gets his guy" guys. Glove first guys are available and cheap. The 5 tool wonders probably wouldn't sign with us, no matter how much money we threw at them.
  3. That was interesting for about 3 volleys. Then the "our #15 prospect is like any other organization's generational #1 talent" BS kicks in, and it's just another braying sports dude wish-casting.
  4. I hope the exclusive on the Grifol extension will be worth it.
  5. I stopped watching the Bears when I decided that I didn't want to be angry ALL year. Congrats on all the spare time you'll have on your hands. Maybe learn to play an instrument.
  6. I think they saw Perez as a guy who just throws the ball back to the pitcher. Perez isn't going to "work" with pitchers like they envision Maldonado doing. Any spare innings when both Maldonado and Stassi are down can go to Lee and Hackenberg. I think Hackenberg's the dude until Quero breaks through. Now watch the Padres grab him and turn him into an All-Star.
  7. I keep thinking Jimmy Lambert's a key bullpen piece. I guess he's more on the Jake Petricka path. One slightly better than average season, and then years of suck.
  8. Days before the Rule 5 draft, multiple people were screaming that the White Sox could launch up to a dozen guys off this roster, and fill it up with fodder from other teams, and nobody argued with them for 4 pages. How is anybody getting angry at DFAing guys we would have gladly launched for hiding their counterparts from another organization on the 40-man for a season?
  9. I saw Gio's $38 mil guaranteed, and I tip my hat, say thanks for the memories. I'm with you, fliers like this are fine. He probably has more prospect than our 40th dude. If Banny fixes him, he brings in a young, fresh arm in July.
  10. I'm funnin' ya. Madrigal should be able to be gotten for ... I don't know. Jonathan Stiever. Or even a PTBNL. I just think that any vets gum up the return, unless it's "taking money back".
  11. He means, get Pete Crow-Armstrong, then perform an a cappella piece with many voices.
  12. Of course they were. I'm just unsure how "combined age" makes any argument stronger. Everybody I argued with decided I was right and agreed with me. An entire department is mapping out teaching my special brand of quantum logic at Harvard this next semester. If I'm a clown, I'm a clown that the entire academic world recognizes as a ground breaking, new, logic-bomb clown who doesn't make people laugh, but rub their chins and go, "Hmmmm" in deep thought to gain intelligence.
  13. When did combined age become a thing? Your age, combined with Jerry Reinsdorf and Jimmy Carter is over 200 years old. Who listens to a guy who represents a combined age that dates back before baseball was invented? Go find a one-year-old, then you'll have some credibility.
  14. It's the catcher training system Chris Getz put in place. Great catchers with which pitchers have career years isn't good enough. We need elite catchers who know how to win!
  15. Yeah, but now Max Stassi is there to tell the other part of the Astro story, the years of total suck. Once Korey Lee has the full narrative, he will then know how to win.
  16. My first choice was Foster Griffin. Royal 1st rounder in 2014, threw 120 quality innings in Japan last year. He just re-upped in Japan.
  17. I'll go nuts and say they're going to resurrect Brady Aiken.
  18. I think Maldonado will come to spring training, and will take all the catchers in the organization out to a steak dinner at some fine Scottsdale steak house. Maldonado will wear his world series ring, and over some prime ribs, he will teach those young catchers the secret of how to win. Michael Soroka will do the same thing with pitchers. These are two great acquisitions that will pay dividends over and over. Pedro Grifol will disguise himself as a waiter so that he can eavesdrop and check his own notes on winning. He will make the proper corrections, and will then know how to win.
  19. Dudes were throwing Laz Rivera and Zach Remillard at the surging throngs, hoping for anything to hold off the inevitable. Chris Getz was their fate.
  20. Chris Getz will envelop him in his love. They will all be turned into AI win-bots.
