Cease's 2021 was also a good. He led the league in K/9. While Dylan Cease may not be one of the top 3-5 pitchers in the game, he is an incredibly valuable pitcher who will give you a floor-to-ceiling 2.5-6 bWAR. The fact that his absolute floor at this phase of his career is better than average, I'm not sure why people are talking about him like he's Dylan Covey, or something. In money paid for his endurance, talent, upside, and lack of drama - for 2 controllable years - he's the best value available in trade or free agency. I'm not sure why that's so hard to grasp.

I'm guessing both sides are launching narratives in all directions, trying to gin up (and down) interest in other teams.

Unless the only way AA can justify the overpay Getz wants is to make the White Sox take on some dead money. Grissom, Waldrep, the guy with 2 last names, Gonzo and White for Cease.

Mike Elias, GM of the Orioles has worked in a front office since 2011. Getz has since 2014. I think Getz will be okay.

It's weird how, for about 4 rebuilding seasons, we had a replacement-level Sandy Alomar as our catcher in the early aughts, and it seemed like a coup. Everybody even wants him to be in any manager mix because he somehow learned how to "win" in Cleveland. But a Salvatore Perez who could rake, comparatively, sucks because he somehow learned how to lose in Kansas City. Perhaps we should be chasing the garbage Texas won't resign because they have intrinsic wisdom on how to win, now.
