5/2 @ Houston 640 CDT, Cannon facing Valdez
WestEddy replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in 2025 Season in Review
Quero, Sosa, Baldwin, Meidroth, Vargas, Burke, Martin, Cannon, S. Smith, Vasil, Ellard. That's starting to look like the team going forward. Nothing to get all that excited about, but sure a nice base to add top prospects to. -
Didn't Oscar Colas try some version of that? That doesn't seem to have worked out as planned.

Who's making predictions? The Sox acquired a player making changes to produce. The defense looks real. The whole point of being a fan is to hope for production from players. If you are sure nobody here will be hall-of-famers who will make you feel better about yourself, why are you here mocking the people who are actually watching the games and assessing the players coming through the system?

It's weird how, when a player does well 2 years ago, it's not applicable, but when they do bad 2 years ago, it's recent, and must be spoken for.

Luis Robert trade thread: La Pantera stays.

Yeah, nobody's ever announced an unwillingness to ever spend over $5M again. It certainly looks like JR has cut the budget back while they work on the TV deals, a new stadium, and the transition to Ishbia/Reinsdorf sons/whomever. It's a good thing that the FO that signed all those bad FAs is gone. -
Colson can cancel his own fall by listening to the Sox' coaches, and telling his agency coaches to stop meddling.

But the guy mocking Robert daily wanted to punt a draft pick so his kids could walk around in Santander jerseys and have piece of mind. You don't really need to explain every one of my posts to me, dude. -
Elko will probably settle in and produce about the same as Vaughn. Sosa would probably be the most productive 1B until a true bat comes through the system without a position.

Heaven would be paying Anthony Santander $16M to put up a .175/.258/.316 line. Maybe he'll right the ship sometime in the next 6 years. LOL. "Hey, junior, where's your $150 Santander jersey?" he asks, knowing what that smoke in the back yard was last night. Weird how we're not getting regular Santander pokes. -
Actually, his track record suggests that he can get better over time. You have a player who has gone into the offseason, and conditioned himself in accordance with team recommendations. He's worked on his fielding, and then when he started in a slump, made a setup change, and followed it through to payoff. Oh, and no "injuries". Everybody screams about how Yoan didn't want to play baseball, but you have a guy who seems to want to play the game, and is doing everything possible to succeed and stay on the field. No, Vargas isn't going to be a HOFer. He's not going to be promoted from AAA and dominate. But he does look like a guy, like another famous, recent 1B on the Sox, who had a couple of false starts before he got to the Sox and put it all together.

Only if it's a season marred by injury or fatigue. One good season will need a 2nd, and then a 3rd to confirm that Guantanamo shouldn't be expecting a GM and 3B.

Or Venable's strained patience muscle.

I see a flight to Arizona, and two tall infielders working on their new swing changes.

The Dodgers made out like bandits, and the Cardinals got a nice return. 2024 Fedde and Pham for Edman and Oliver Gonzalez seems like a slight overpay by St.L, but they got what they needed. The Sox should have gotten that future consideration in the form of another prospect. But a hitting/fielding Vargas, Perez doing what he's doing right now, and what Albertus is supposed to be is looking more like "just a guy short" than "OMFG, what did you do?!?!?"
-
Miguel Vargas has more WAR than Kopech, Pham or Fedde. While I'll always think they should have gotten another body, this is turning out to be a not bad return.
-
Yeah, didn't the White Sox hire Hrniak because Thomas was working with him?
-
I have no idea what you're talking about.
-
There's a question mark after that. You have no proof that's the case, either. But I'm glad you finally agree that it's no indictment of an organization when players seek out their own coaching or their agency provides outside coaching for them, as it's widespread in the industry.

Yeah, that doesn't tell me *how* they ruined him. Players hit their ceiling at certain levels, or backslide due to issues. You're accusing them of "ruining" Montgomery. I'm just wondering if you actually know that, or are just saying that. And why is it "bad" that they're tackling his issues head on with one on one work?
