  1. I don’t think it needs to, and I’m certainty not an expert on BABIP, but I’m just picturing a guy protecting with two strikes and never striking out. Most likely, those balls are not going to be hit hard. But I admittedly was not thinking about the high ground ball rate that could cause a high BABIP. I just didn’t understand how you were claiming that a low K rate would cause a high BABIP. Seems like a low K rate would cause a higher batting average, but not a higher BABIP.
  2. When you strike out so infrequently, isn’t your quality of contact going to be lower?
  3. I was thinking the same thing. I’m a big Madrigal fan, but I always assumed his high contact rate and lack of strikeouts would produce a high batting average but not a high BABIP.
  4. Because “nobody outside the Sox organization thinks Collins can stick at catcher.” That became the company line around here and most people jumped on the bandwagon.

    Sheets just went deep again.
  6. Or will Covey be joining the rotation after the break?

I like your ranking, but I’d switch your 3/4 combo with your 5/6 combo.
  8. He couldn’t have had any less command with the fastball, but McCann went to offspeed stuff and he gutted it out. His offspeed stuff looked great. Much better change up than I was expecting. Threw two different breaking balls...an 80 mph hammer that he could throw for strikes, and an 85/86 mph slider (or tight curve ball). Overall, I was very impressed with his stuff. He he can command the fastball, he’s going to be very, very good.
  9. Throw in Anderson, Robert, and Madrigal and that suddenly looks very good. And one free agent bat puts it over the top.
  10. He said after the first inning.
  11. If you put him on the 60 day, he’s out at least 60 days. But yes, if you put a guy on the 10 day, he can stay on there longer than 10 days.
  12. And I just finished my oneth beer of the night!
  13. Any chance that was the plan until he struggled in his three starts prior to last night? I’m guessing they would want him coming off a good start when he makes his debut.
  14. Not necessarily disagreeing with you, but what are you basing that off of?
  15. Tilson had to leave with flu symptoms.
  16. I don’t think that roadblock, specifically for Rutherford and Gonzalez, is as bad as some people are making it seem. This isn’t directed at you, but it seems as if some people have completely written them off as prospects. If I were using the 5 tier system that @Chicago White Sox used for evaluating their years so far, I would put both those guys in tier 4.
  17. I think he will once Robert gets promoted. Then Dawkins will get bumped to A+.
  18. McCann can’t catch every night. Collins has to catch some of them right now, so why not put him out there in a game where he’ll be catching a guy he has already caught in Charlotte?
  19. Great news. Tyler is one of my favorite prospects. Really rooting for him.
  20. I think he’s talking about running out to backup Eloy on the ball off the wall. Anyway, anybody who plays shortstop needs to think before that play that if they field it in the hole, they are going to third. It should just be instinctive. Very poor play by Tim.
  21. No doubt. If you told me Rutherford would be hitting around .250 in late June, I would much prefer a huge struggle early and a positive adjustment/hot streak rather than a steady .250 all year. Anybody who faces adversity and doesn’t fold is better off in the long run.
  22. Absolutely. And that’s why I’ve never been overly concerned about Gonzalez, Basabe, and Rutherford. Hitting is contagious in both a positive and negative way. Sure, it would have been nice for them to get off to better starts, but that whole lineup was brutal early on. It wasn’t even June yet, and people were giving up on them as prospects.
  23. I’ve seen a lot of people say that based on our history, they don’t expect us to land any big names. If we end up with Ozuna, Wheeler, and Hamels, would you guys be happy with the offseason? Or do we have to land one of the top three guys mentioned above for the offseason to be considered a success?
  24. This question is for anybody, but which guys are considered “top of the market” guys? Are we just talking about Cole, Grandal, and Rendon?
