Honestly...this is 75% why this deal was done. Add in poor season opener ticket sales....they needed a story to motivate the fans. I think it's a mediocre baseball decision that will either be just under market value or a slight overpay. This will never be a Great deal, but the PR vibes alone was worth it for RH. My favorite part though...is they can't use the future contracts we need to sign will dictate our payroll line. They locked up their biggest asset for 8 years with a budgeted number. Now FA attempts need to be fair, not underpays

Beer, brats n onions and a whole lot of Eloy. What else is better? Also...the idea of having an incredible third baseman could be absolutely vital to this rebuild. He has the power. He has the bat speed. He has the defensive instincts. He puts it all together, madrigal hits and the sting of Macho man is gone. Consider me overly optimistic as well, but I think at least one of the MiLB kids goes crazy this year and jumps through the system and rankings. Rodon finally stays healthy. And in case it all fails...more Beer.

Once again...Machado's deal was a "Bargain" compared to market rate. We will never have a chance at a top 10-15 player for under 300 million ever again. But at least we will have that Eloy money saved up for years...

My top choice for FA is Manny Machado. Can he opt out this year?

This was a bargain hunting excercise for me. At full price...nah, it's a pass. But if he can be below market rate it really solidifies the staff and forces the fringe guys to really compete. He isn't perfect, but I would rather have him than Bumgardner, because Sale and Cole won't be in JRs price range...

Keuchel... Should we? Buster Olney's new article today shows a very limited market with no one wanting to pay or go long term. Should Sox be aggressive and offer 5/70? Value would be tremendous and he would lead the team the next few seasons and be on the team during contention window. At worst...he is a #3 on this team in a couple years and maybe can help mentor the young guns. I know 5/70 is probably unrealistic, so let's say 5/80 max offer. Just seems solid to me. Thoughts?

This off-season has been a roller coaster ride for all of us. Posts like the OP sounds so silly considering what we all went through together. I haven't sworn them off and that is silly, but give people their own time and space. JR literally caused ulcers and grief beyond repair to some.

Pretty good. Arm strength is solid, and he has made a couple nice reactionary plays, one great one that bounced off the pitchers glove. Time will tell, but with a lack of 3B prospects...he will get 2 solid years to prove himself there.

They will have to as the next CBA will most definitely have a floor in it and with 21 million only on the books for 2021...it will happen. Will there be some very poorly thought out contracts...of course...but this team averages at least a 120mil payroll all the time and history since the WS win has been that they will pay. Hahn just needs to spend wisely, which is most definitely up for debate.

Moncada has actually looked great in ST so far...so this is weird to jump on him. If he can provide strong defensive value at 3rd as well....he could be a 2-3 WAR player for very cheap that allows us to grab a #1 or #2 starter next FA period. Pitching is what this team really needs above all.

I have finally really thought about all this...and I still am flabbergasted. that is the best word I could find to describe this offseason. FLABBERGASTED.

Yeah this looks fair. I think he will peak at a 3, but be a 4 for the next several seasons. If all our pitching prospects hit his place will be shaky especially if we go after Cole or Sale in FA...but after this off season I don't know what to think anymore

A number 2 in the American league is a 3.50 era guy most of the time. If he peaks at a #3 dude with 3.80 ish stuff that is a pretty good return considering we got another top 4 starter and a potential #3 if he doesn't need TJ for Adam Eaton.

Being that Andrews saw it and didn't think TJ was needed now...this is GREAT news on a day I am questioning why I am even a Sox fan anymore...

IF the Phillies are truly out...once again the Sox are in an amazing position to get another HOF type talent that will sell tickets. Unless the Giants or Dodgers are offering over 300 million contracts, there is absolutely no reason the Sox shouldn't offer 10/326 and an opt out at 4/5 years. He would accept that TODAY.

That's why Kenny and Rick were so shellshocked...but with the outfield depth they have only 1 or 2 of those guys ever was making the club anyways with Eloy and Robert being locks. I honestly would rather have Harper and the media exposure anyways. Have you heard anything out of Manny coverage since ST started? I don't even know if he's played a game yet.

Is anyone gonna wonder if Levine is escalating his source? Sometimes discomfort can just be soreness that needs a bit of time off. But probably TJ.
