QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 10:50 AM) THANK YOU!!!!! And for the record I didn't, and wouldn't, call that "bandwagoning" I wasn't trying to imply that you said that, Steff. I was just referring to all the talk of bandwagon fans lately. I don't always see a difference between being a "discerning fan" who doesn't go to games when the team doesn't perform, and being a "bandwagon fan" who only goes when they do. People can make the argument either way - someone who goes to Sox games no matter what can call themselves "die-hard fans", yet that same person may mock Cubs fans who go to games no matter how bad the team is.
-
Sox fans always pride themselves on being knowledgable and demanding performance, otherwise "we vote with our wallets". It's one of the main differences I hear Sox fans claim when discussing Cubs fans vs. Sox fans. Based on this theory, if demanding and knowledgable Sox fans rewarded the Sox' success with increased spending or new season ticket purchases, it stands to reason that these same fans would reduce or drop those season ticket plans following a bad season & trades of guys like Buerhle, Dye and Iguchi. I don't know if that qualifies as "bandwagoning", but I can see where a fan of another team could see it that way. I do believe that we'll see a significant drop-off in season ticket numbers. I doubt it would drop to 12 or 13, but 15 or 16K sounds likely to me if the Sox go the route of trading their impending free agents for prospects that many fans wouldn't be familiar with.

QUOTE(Shadows @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 02:26 AM) Bonds is not only the best player this game has ever seen, but also my favorite player 94 wins, 46 losses, 107 complete games, 2.28 ERA. .342 batting average, 714 HR, 2213 RBI. Bonds has passed Ruth's home run numbers, but he can never surpass Ruth's impact on the game.

Saw "Sicko" last night. Interesting film, had some funny moments, had the usual cherry-picking of facts by Moore. He is very good at putting a movie together and splicing in funny clips, I have to give that to him. The funniest thing to me was the ovation the audience gave the film at the end. I can never understand why someone'd clap at a movie screen.

Why Does the Casual Baseball Fan LOVE the Cubbies?
The Critic replied to SouthSidePride05's topic in The Diamond Club
I think the casual fan is drawn to several things: the party atmosphere of Wrigley and the surrounding neighborhood the underdog aspect of the Cubs not having won in almost 100 years the less stressful approach of "hey, go get 'em tomorrow" that casual Cubs fans always seem to have That said, the increased booing, garbage tossing and field trespassing at Wrigley seems to indicate a shift in the mindset of more and more Cubs fans. Or, maybe they'll follow any trend and they're just aping the true Cubs fans who actually want to see their team win something. -

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 12:56 AM) Steroids or not, he's probably the best hitter many of us have ever seen. He deserves his own thread. And in this day and age, you can't prove who was and wasn't clean, so I figure a little respect to the man, even if he's a huge asshole. It takes a hell of a talent and a hell of a career to reach the record he's about to pass. His record means nothing to me simply because he's such an asshole. I can't respect him or anything he does because of his awful demeanor. I couldn't possibly care less about anything he does. Luckily for him, he's so wrapped up in himself that I don't think he cares who likes him or not. Gotta say, though, the giant asterisk posters and signs people are holding up at Giants road games are pretty damn funny.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 08:09 PM) Why's it gotta be in the suburbs? Come to the city. Better date locations. amateur /green She works early on Sunday so we want to stay closer to home. We'd just like a relatively quiet place where we can talk and enjoy a couple drinks, either with dinner or after dinner.

Hmmmm.....did I ask for the definition or description of a mojito? Or did I ask for an establishment which serves particularly delicious ones?
-
The Mrs. and I have an oh-so-rare date night tomorrow, and she's all into the mojitos lately. Anyone know of a bar or restaurant in the SW burbs that serves really good ones? I've never had one, and I'm a beer guy, so I'm sure any bar or restaurant will have what I need. Thanks in advance!

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 10:37 PM) Credit to The Critic. Got an email from the nutty goof tonight pointing me in the direction of Man Raze, the new band from Phil Collen (Def Leppard, ex. Girl), Paul Cook (Sex Pistols), and Simon Laffy (ex. Girl). I gotta say, I though Phil had forgotten how to truly rock back when he left Girl. But here he shows quite the opposite: http://www.manraze.com/index.php?page=music Nice one Critic! NUTTY GOOF?!?!?!?? How DARE you!!!!!

QUOTE(Purdue129 @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 07:59 PM) for those interested the supposedly very good 3-way on Impact! starts in a few mins and should go the entire hour It was a decent match, no better than most others, and had WAY too much interference and a clustered ending. I wouldn't consider it a classic or MOTY candidate by any stretch.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 08:14 PM) Hawk makes a catfish hunter reference. He is now due at least one Kaline, and one Boston Redsox comment in the next 30 minutes. Hawk's been pretty awful this year, and I'm normally a fan. He's been hard to listen to most of the time lately. -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 02:21 PM) I do like the Jake a lot, if it wasn't for that bastard with the drum, the bleachers would be one of the best seats in baseball. You know, we were one section over and 15 rows down from that guy and he wasn't really a problem for us. I don't know why he didn't bug me - I mean, I go INSANE every team I hear that goddamned "HOT DOG!!!!!" vendor on a Sox broadcast, you'd think that drumtard would've caused me to blow a gasket. Didn't happen, though.

QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 05:21 PM) Critic, I think you have a very unhealthy obsession with shuffling. It's a VERY healthy obsession. Shuffling is low in fat, high in fiber, is heart-healthy, it has the recommended daily requirement of vitamins A, C, D and LOL, and can reduce cholesterol while simultaneously INCREASING "good cholesterol". It's non-addictive, totally organic, and comes in a wide variety of fruit flavors. Plus, when done right, shuffling can give you a nice, mellow buzz as well. Now, TELL ME what's unhealthy about that???? QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 08:20 PM) I'm VERY impressed. Every once in a while, a good one pops out of the Pod, eh?

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 10:11 AM) Age is never an excuse when it comes to enjoying entertainment, unless your age has caused you to go deaf and you no longer can enjoy music. I always blame age for my not really wanting to go to shows anymore, but really it's just indifference. And not wanting to deal with everything that goes along with shows (traffic, parking, other audience members, etc.) But shufflin' NEVER gets old!!! Twisted Sister - We're Not Gonna Take It The Clash - Guns Of Brixton Blackbox - Most Of My Life U2 - New Year's Day 7 Seconds - You Live And Die For Freedom AC/DC - Let There Be Rock Boston - Rock And Roll Band Naked Raygun - Those Who Move Dramarama - Until The Next Time Rory Gallagher - Wayward Child And the super-secret, Japanese import-only bonus track: Trivium - Detonation

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 11:21 AM) What amazes me is how a band that is 3/5 Guns N Roses (granted Sorum is not original Gunners), and 1/5 Stone Temple sounds nothing like GnR, but exactly like Stone Temple. I guess it just leads to further proof that Traci Gunns actually did write Appetite, and Izzy was responsible for everything else that was decent from GnR. Very true. The only thing VR ever did that sounded like GnR is Slash's solo on "Slither". Not the whole song, mind you - only the solo sounded like Guns. I'm not a fan of Velvet Revolver at all.

I don't know if I could bear the growing pains the Randy Plan would bring. Is a bad young team better than a bad old team? The Devil Rays have "gone young" for quite a while now, and aren't exactly banging on the door of a World Series. Kenny's going to make changes, but he has to try to stay competitive for the short-term, or the "discriminating White Sox fans" and the "bandwagoneers" will both jump ship. Again.

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 04:29 PM) Investigators now believe he was giving his 7 year old HGH. Now there's a problem. What a psychotic freak. Holy crap! Talk about a hidden "other life". He seemed, professionally at least, to see a level-headed, stable guy. Couldn't have been further from the truth, as it turns out. I thought I was too old to be shocked and disillusioned. I was wrong.

What a horrible, twisted, even sadder story this is turning into. I really hope he didn't do what reports are saying he did. What a weird world we live in, huh.
