  1. I didn't bother listening to them today, because I knew that would be harped on over and over.
  2. QUOTE(drowninginflame @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 06:30 AM) he was crying after he blew it This is actually the only thing that worries me. I like the approach Brad Lidge showed last night. Gave respect to Scott for getting a good swing, and put it behind him. I just don't want Bobby doubting himself or fearing the failure. Failure comes with the territory, and it's magnified because of when he works. Bobby seemed like the happiest guy in the park after Scott's blast, though.
  3. QUOTE(SoxRock192 @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 08:01 AM) Hope we win Tuesday REALLY? ME TOO! What a coincidence!!
  4. QUOTE(Mercy! @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 08:00 AM) Making God Bless America a new “tradition” at sports venues is a bad idea. If it ever really had any meaning for a mass sports audience, it faded within a few of months after 9/11/2001. But having Gene Honda instruct everyone in attendance to stand “for a show of patriotism” for this Irving Berlin ditty is downright presumptuous, insulting and shallow. (Not quite as peculiar as those times when we’re instructed to stand “for your Chevy Pride Crew,” though.) In place of God Bless America, I suggest the PA announcer request a moment of silence while he reads the names of our service members killed that week in service to their country. THAT might be a show of respect for the real patriots. I don't think MLB would want that much of a "downer" played up. I have no problem with God Bless America, unless Liz Phair is butchering it. And I think people should stand for that song, certainly 100% more appropriate than begging people for a t-shirt.
  5. Andy Pettitte gets on my nerves, actually. He'll always be a Yankee to me, so he joins Clemens on my "ugh" list.
  6. I think the whole media hatred is based on everything Cubbie being blown into a story while everything South Side seems to be ignored. The only thing that grates on me is garbage like that overnight ESPN Radio guy claiming that if and when the Sox win it all, people will forever refer to an umpire's mistake as the reason why they got it done. I just don't think any of the umpire "issues" were high-profile enough or critical enough to be a 1985 Don Denkinger-type of thing.
  7. QUOTE(Wedge @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 07:49 AM) My initial fear is that Clemens, the Astros, and the media would make this into a "bloody sock" type of thing (the blood was katsup, by the way). Even if it is, I don't think Roger will be able to capture Schilling's magic. That's ONE TASTY SOCK, Curt!
  8. I think AJ needs to call for the hook if they want the kid to throw it. If he tries to shake the call, call it again. Shakes it again, call it AGAIN until he asks him to come to the mound to talk, then TELL him to throw it. In Jenks' defense, Vizcaino had a slap-swing in mind, he just wanted to get a bat on it, and he did. I put that 2nd run on Scott, because he had the ball before Burke ever hit 3rd base. You HAVE to throw that guy out if you're charging in and the guy's just touching 3rd. Thankfully, Scott turned the goat horns into angel wings.
  9. QUOTE(SoxRock192 @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 06:47 AM) Yeah, his unproven power, but I was in my freakin bathroom when they won The 2005 White Sox - HOLD IT IN, YOU MIGHT MISS SOMETHING!TM
  10. Well, they DID get Scott from Milwaukee for his postseason power.
  11. QUOTE(BigEdWalsh @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 01:03 AM) There will be converts, new fans, whatever you want to call them. But, the majority of the bandwagoneers are just along for the moment. The kind of people who get off on saying "they were there". They're the ones that I hate. But, I agree, unfortunately so, that they're making the club a lot of money and that's a good thing. But, all in all, I f***ing hate bandwagoneers. I used to go to games back in '69 and '70 and was often one of anywhere between one or two thousand fans in attendance. I went to a couple of games that didn't even draw 1,000. Frankly, it sickens me to see people who only come out for something like this. Oh well though, that's just the way of things. I really do agree with you, but we as Sox fans can't have it both ways. We complain about being ignored, and we complain about attendance. Well, get to the World Series and you will be noticed, and your park will be full. BUT, it will be full of bandwagoners who are willing to spend to be "part of something". This is not new, but it's new to us. We don't like it, and understandably so. But I'm gonna LOVE that trophy, and it's a fair trade-off as far as I'm concerned.
  12. “The ump sees what, 225, 250 pitches a night and get the great majority of them right,” Ausmus said. “But it’s not like his call scored any runs. They did that on their own.” Brad Ausmus gets it. The douche on ESPN All-Night does not.
  13. The guy seemed to crack once someone questioned him, though. Offering to delete all his posts if someone complains.....pussy.....lol
  14. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 12:26 AM) While attendence should be up a lot next season I dont think it will be 2 hard to get tickets during the regular season still... maybe if we can make the playoffs on a consistent basis and make another WS run... I think it'll be real tough to get weekends and tickets for games against "premium" teams. Wednesdays and Thursdays against Detroit, Toronto, Tampa, KC, etc. will still be available for sure.
  15. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 12:23 AM) No one is even talking about that play on the stros or what not. Media is trying to make something out of nothing as usual. Well, the Stros understand that it's baseball, and sometimes you catch a break and sometimes you don't. Media dolts need something to talk about, and GOD FORBID they actually credit the Sox with rebounding from blowing a 2-run lead with 2 outs in the 9th. There are too many people talking for too many hours about the same events, so they have to try to differentiate themselves, and some like to manufacture fake controversy to do that.
  16. The key, as it has been the whole time, is to get to the middle of the Astros bullpen. Lidge had been solid until his last 2 appearances, but the middle of their pen can definitely be had. Everett can be a dangerous option for Ozzie off the bench. I wouldn't mind seeing him up there in a late-game, one at-bat situation.
  17. It's like I tell the Cubbie trolls at my work: It's NOT about the break you get, it's about what you DO with it! If the Astros don't hang a meatball to Paulie, the "controversy" doesn't happen. And that's assuming that Jermaine wouldn't get a big hit anyway - after all, it would have been a foul ball, NOT strike three, and Wheeler was anything but solid in that at-bat.
  18. They seem to be doing the hockey playoff beard thing. The Sox are just doing the "different hero every game" thing. I like our thing better.
  19. Sounded like Rooney was genuinely surprised that Scott's ball left the yard. Then he freaked out a little. That was so cool. I too am REALLY going to miss John.
  20. "W-Rod"???? More like MAGIC WANDY, he makes leads disappear......
  21. He just said that the umpiring will "taint the White Sox if they win the World Series". uhhhhhh huhhhhhh...................suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure........ :headshake
  22. This postseason run will probably convert some "fence-sitters" and also develop more young fans. Attendance will NOT be a discussion next season, except when we b**** about how much harder it is to get tickets, how much worse the parking situation is, and how much longer the bathroom/concessions lines are. Looks like I might have to consider at least one of the "Ozzie or Minnie plans" next year, just to make sure I get to see some of the games I want.
  23. QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 23, 2005 -> 11:15 PM) Paulie bailed out Mark. Pods bailed out Jenks. This is what good teams do. Mark did a decent job tonight, all things considered. Weather will not be a factor the next three (two???) games.
  24. QUOTE(Brian @ Oct 23, 2005 -> 03:38 PM) Bernie Mac has always been a Sox fan, like when he sang the 7th inning stretch in 2003, he never said "Root Root Root for the Cubbies." I never saw him in an Astros jersey. Now the dude from the Simpsons was just blatant promotion. Dan Castellanetta (sp?) is a Sox fan, or so I'm told. A friend of mine at work knows him. He's from the area, and from all accounts is a cool guy.
  25. Eh, it's okay. Nowhere near the quality of the AC/DC version, obviously, but it's not as if it was a polka version or something...
