So I picked up the latest issue of NewCity, the cover story focuses on the Sox. Kenny Williams recounted his interview with Ozzie for the managerial job. KW, trying to find out if Ozzie will say what he thinks KW wants to hear, starts by asking Ozzie to convince him that Oz is worth staking his reputation on and Ozzie says: "You think I came all the way up here just to hear myself talk?? You're f***ing out of your f***ing mind! If you don't think I can do this job, just send me home right now! I ain't here to try to kiss your ass!" ....ahh luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuv Ozzie............

Rumor: AL Playoff OF tests positive for steroids
The Critic replied to DonkeyKongerko's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 10:12 AM) I never knew steroid manufacturers had such a sense of humor. It was also available under the brand names Horsosa and Giddyup Sammy....AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLEGEDLY................... -
Like Steve said: I also think the Brewers are more than happy with Carlos. It's not like keeping Pods and Viz was going to get them to the Series. They got a VERY good power hitter who has grown into an adequate-to-good left fielder. Congrats to CLee on his Silver Slugger Award!

There are a lot of parking lots right next to the UC, you should have no trouble finding a space to park. There's almost nothing to do in the area around the UC, so leaving the neighborhood is a given. There's some good bars and restaurants not too far away, but not really walking distance. You will have NO problem getting a ticket.

It is awesome, every bit of it. The Cub troll at work sent me that lame-o picture of a half-empty USCF with "Where were you in April, Sox fans?" as the caption. I replied to the email with this: "Where were Cub fans in October? By the way.....1908. Eat it."

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 10:00 AM) It drives me nuts trying to figure out who the voices belong too... THREADJACK!!! If Soxtalk posters were doing voiceovers, what company/product would they be endorsing?? Hi, I'm The Critic of Soxtalk fame, here to talk about Hacker-Pschorr Weisse beer. This beer has gotten me through those tough times in September, and was the ultimate celebration drink all throughout October. The little woman likes Hacker-Pschorr because it dulls my normally surly demeanor into something slightly resembling a human being. And my daughter likes the way Daddy belches after 5 or 6 of those lovely brown bottles of wheaty goodness. Hacker-Pschorr - the drink for the whole family! Even if nobody else gets to f***ing TOUCH one bottle of it!!!!

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 09:18 AM) Yep, I'd much rather keep it difficult for people to go to games. Development is a waste of time, I prefer places like Moe's Tavern and The Bucket of Blood there instead. After all, those kinds of businesses have done so much to bring revenue to the area and the team. I also don't want to see any new fans at the park. l'll take 15,000 'diehards' at every home game over a sell out full of newbies. With the years and years of success this team had had, why the Eff would anyone try something different? I'm not saying that, all I'm saying is after years and years of playing up the "Cub fans only go to the games for the neighborhood and the ballpark" theory, Sox fans may end up in a similar situation. Irony......Catch It!

What Sox championship memorabilia do you recommend

Between the Sun-Times pullout sections and the World Series program, I don't feel like I need any other magazines. Tomorrow's 46 page Sun-Times pullout should just about complete the collection for me. -

ESPN ranks Sox #2 in Offseason Rankings
The Critic replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The fact is, I believe that a lot of "experts" still feel that the Sox caught lightning in a bottle and got hot at the perfect time. Despite having the lead wire-to-wire, and having the best record in the American League, this Sox team was not the type of team that dazzles anyone, unless you are dazzled by pitching ( which I am ). They just got the job done. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, not one bit, but it can still lead someone to think "fluke" or "show me something next year, and then maybe I'll believe". Frankly, I'm surprised that they picked the Sox 2nd, given the option decline of Carl and the chance of losing PK. But when you boil it all down, the "experts" are just there to provide something to talk about. Whether you agree with them or think they're full of s***, they don't KNOW anything more than any of us ( well, maybe they know more than SOME of us.... ). Show me results, that means more to me than speculation. -
Here comes Cellville. And with it the frat boys/trixies who know nothing about the games and are only there for the "USCF experience", and the in-house scalping service, and the sold-out games in September when the team is 15 games out of the playoff hunt, and.....

Riddle me this Trent Yawney
The Critic replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 05:48 PM) Funny you should mention Vaive. I just got done watching one of my Blackhawk fight tapes and he got pummelled by various Red Wings in 3 different fights. Vaive was so frustrating to me. I remembered him being a good scorer with Toronto and then the Hawks got him and he was just average. I guess that's the difference between seeing a guy every day and just seeing stats and highlights. -

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 08:38 PM) I have to disagree with you on Steve Smith. He was awesome when he was here and had a few really good years playing alongside Chelios on the blueline. Yeah, that's true, but a guy like Smith is the exception that proves the rule. For every Steve Smith or Michel Goulet, you had a bucketful of Tony McKegneys and Rick Vaives. The Hawks looked pretty good at times last night, just not at enough times. Khabibulin let in a couple softies and you just can't do that against Detroit. The problem facing the Hawks is, if you get into a big enough hole the losing starts to snowball. They need to put some rubber in the cage, and fast. -
QUOTE(mr_genius @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 08:07 PM) hey, he'll be a defensive pick! don't worry, i'm sure Ozzie will pick the right guys for the AL team... i'm just betting a bunch of the right guys will come from the Sox. So am I, actually. And I'm already looking forward to the press conference where Ozzie "defends" his selections......"Ah LUUUUUUV Awzie".....

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 07:59 PM) well, i won't think it's "bulls***" if Uribe is having a decent year and makes it, or any other White Sox for that matter. thats just how it works, you win the pennant and you get to select the alternates to the All-star game. gotta look out for your guys And that's why I said "undeserving or borderline". If 2 or 3 AL shortstops are having better seasons than Juan and he gets selected because of what uniform he wears, then that's bulls***.
