Despite being in first, White Sox just cannot win
The Critic replied to IlliniKrush's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Jeeeez. They win one World Series, thanks to a historic Yankee collapse, and now they're mocking someone else's lack of WS flags? "Their lonely 1917 WS flag"....like they have 40 of them lined up or something... :rolly I call them the Red Cubs for a reason, and they just gave me another. -
My inner pessimist looks at the Sox' very tough August schedule and gets very worried. Then my inner optimist looks at the Twins' August schedule and sees that they play practically the exact same teams the Sox do.....and my pessimist feels a little better. As usual, it will come down to how the Sox play against the Twins, and this year I feel better about that than I have in the past few years.

I know this answer sounds a little cliche right about now, but: Depending on the date, I'd be interested.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 12:35 PM) My grass hurts to walk on with bare feet. It's funny - my feet hurt after 3 steps on my dry, crackly grass but my 5-year-old can run barefoot all around the backyard for hours and never be the worse for wear. It truly does suck to get old.....

To once again refer to the Cliche thread ( the most useful thread in Soxtalk history ): Be Careful What You Wish For, You Just Might Get It To all those people who complained about attendance, especially when the Sox started winning this year, THIS is what increased attendance brings. The people who want to be "part of something" will fill the park, and also fill it with dopey comments like those listed below. Personally, I don't mind idiots, except drunken aggressive idiots. And I never seem to get playoff tickets anyway, so I'm used to that and I don't really care who gets them.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 01:52 PM) You see "THEWOOD" we don;t heckle you for your inquiry, as it is quite a fair inquiry. We heckle you for your demand of: "I want these tickets by 4:30" You see my friend, referring back to the Cliche thread, beggers, well, beggers cannot be choosers.... The cliche thread is quickly becoming the most useful thread in Soxtalk history.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 01:47 PM) Does the designation of assignment mean he can't use his no-trade clause?? Not sure about that at all. It wouldn't make sense for him to use the no-trade, even if he could. Unless he really didn't want to play for the team that wants to obtain him. If no one wants to trade for him, what are the options? Does he have to either go to Charlotte or become a free agent? I, for one, will miss Shingo. As I said before in another thread, he was my highlight of the 2004 season and I appreciate the fun times he provided last year. Best of luck to Shingo and I hope some other team can experience SHINGO TIME!!! GONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 01:45 PM) 15 Yard Penalty, piling on !!!!!!!! Upon further review, the play stands as called on the field. Still 4th down.....
-
Heard them talking about this on Silvercub and Carmen. They were joking that he wrote that on his cap when Ozzie told him he was going into the game. Maybe he should write "get the bunt down" or "move the runner over" or "I need directions to Charlotte" on his cap.

QUOTE(THEWOOD @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 01:35 PM) I need two (2) tickets for tonight in premium lower box. I want to have these tickets by 430. Thanks..... I also need a ride to the game, a few free beers and a churro. ....not a chocolate filled churro, either, maybe raspberry filled or else just the regular kind..... Oh yeah, and I need a new Sox cap and maybe a Shingo shirt....you know, for old time's sake.....

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 01:37 PM) I edited the thread title. .....powermad control freak......

QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 01:12 PM) I love the Cardinals. I worship the White Sox. Thats it. The Sox will always be #1 for me. I just cannot stop thinking about them, especially this year. I dont know. It's been an obsession. I just randomly blurt "White Sox are awesome" sometimes; people kind of look at me. But when I'm not really thinking about anything, they come straight to mind. Wierd.. yeah, but I dont care. I love this. The Cardinals are a great team filled with good players and good guys. LaRussa has White Sox connections; Pujols is a more talented version of Sean Casey who is just an allaround great human being. Rolen plays 3rd so well. They do things right. They are a great team. And I wish to like hell they wouldve beaten the 'Other' Sox last October. But this year, despite how much I like what the Cardinals are doing, I cant get over my White Sox. And I'll be forced to hate anything that stands between us and destiny. So Cardinals, please lose in the NLCS so I dont have to hate you. Hearing someone randomly mumble "White Sox are awesome" for no reason would be absolutely hilarious!

Since the Sox and Cards are my two favorite teams in MLB, this article was VERY nice to read! This season has been fantastic thus far, and IF......well, you know.....IF...... .....it would be difficult having to root against the Redbirds. Well, now that I think about it, it wouldn't be THAT difficult......

Silence would be great, but if not silence then I'd like to hear this: OHHH WEEE OHHH.....BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

What is your second favorite team in baseball?

QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 05:24 PM) I woudnt have faired well here last october seems im the only person to put red sox in this thread and everybody else said the cards. Glad i joined this june. You might have gotten some good-natured s*** about it, but not too bad unless you came off looking like one of the "Red Cubs" fans who wallowed in the JINXES. -
QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 05:22 PM) Don't go away mad. Just go away. Quoting Motley Crue might BE cliche, but I'm not sure it is A cliche....

21st best team in baseball, eh? Pre-season prognosticating = worthless. Nice work, "Busted Owned-ney".

Cards Brew Crew Padres Used to like the Orioles, and probably will again once they jettison that cork-filled, roid-riddled clubhouse cancer. -
QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 05:01 PM) haha. I have no cliche to respond with. C'mon, Show, give it the old college try. The only failure is not to try.

All three victims were local musicians. Their friends are understandably crushed by the act of this stupid, selfish murderer. Condolences and prayers go out to the friends and families of these three guys who were cut down too soon in life. I guess I didn't expect an "aspiring model" to understand that a brick wall or a light pole would be a better target for suicide and a car full of people would be more likely to kill someone else. Maybe a LOT of years in prison will teach her this valuable lesson. I hope she can resume her modeling career after her prison term.....

Something tells me that 12-year-old kid would have thought it was real f***ing funny if his bottle rocket caused someone to crash. It's difficult for me to feel too sorry about someone dying while doing something illegal that could very well have killed an innocent person.

That's the way to approach things, Tex. Just stay within yourself, take what they give you, because at the end of the day, it is what it is.
