LA agrees to trade Shawn Green
The Critic replied to The Critic's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I heard it would be Dioner Navarro and 2 other prospects. -
The wonderful part is, local radio told HIM to stay away.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jan 3, 2005 -> 02:35 PM) Heh, I guess I have been in a box lately. I have not heard about this little screw-over until just now. Hmmm, one more reason for me to stay out of Chicago and to NOT drive all over the state. Thank God for Metra for when I do need to head on down there for whatever reason. .....hater.....

Saw this on the ESPN News ticker as well. No word on who LA would receive.

Just saw on the ESPN News ticker that the Angels have changed their name to the ridiculously clunky LOS ANGELES ANGELS OF ANAHEIM. Go Go LAAoA!!!!!!

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 3, 2005 -> 07:19 AM) You can be funny after I start a thread to let you be funny . . . Well, every self-proclaimed funnyman needs a straight man.... ...which I guess leaves winodj out.....

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jan 3, 2005 -> 01:18 AM) Critic -- It seems that more and more Democrats have that impregnable dome of hair. You could take a f***ing industrial jackhammer to it and it wouldn't move an inch...and probably damage the jackhammer a la Curly's head in the 3 Stooges. It seems though that Gov. Blowhard is doing everything to piss everybody off -- raising tolls, policing video games etc. He's such a maroon. :finger Blago Yeah, lcr ( still fighting the urge to call you Apu ), my guess is that Blago has that helmet to deflect the s*** disgruntled Illinoians might throw at him. The more Dems that wear the hair helmet, we'll have to start calling them DOMEocrats! Okay, so that one sucked....I'm STILL the funniest motherf***er on Soxtalk!!! The votes don't lie - I got a MANDATE of the people, and that gives me some Soxtalk currency, and I'MA GUNNA SPEND IT!!!!

QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Jan 2, 2005 -> 05:41 PM) Chicago Bears got 0. No, that was how many points their offense normally gets.
-
QUOTE(Brian @ Jan 2, 2005 -> 12:49 PM) Can Blago be accused of extortion or something? =) Probably not, since buying an iPass is "optional", but he MUST be charged with endangering the environment for the hairspray it has to take to hold that hair helmet in place!

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 1, 2005 -> 09:57 PM) CMT had the original movie on tonight. Damn I love that flick. I was reading up a little on what killed P{ic and it turns out that is almost 100% curable if detected as early as they found it in Pic. Combine that with current knee surgery techniques that would have had Sayers back 100% and I just shake my head at what could have been. ....you woman....

Official Beat the FudgePackers But Need A
The Critic replied to Goldmember's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Just saw McQuarters doing his stupid airplane arms thing in the first quarter of a completely meaningless game. Ugh.... -
QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 2, 2005 -> 12:05 PM) Another guy on the bubble. One issue is how much value to place on being a "complete" player. Could be he judged just in his offense and the defense be icing on the cake? This becomes more interesting when you try to evaluate a DH. Yeah, DHs are gonna be tough to guage. I think for DHs, their individual numbers/awards are going to carry a lot of weight, such as leading the league in HRs and RBIs, All-Star teams, etc. Sandberg will have to rely on his bat and his somewhat misleading errorless streak to lift him into the Hall. I do think he'll get in, regardless of my opinion of him ( very very good but not great ).
-
QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 2, 2005 -> 07:42 AM) Yes it does, the drivers who use the tollroad everyday and will invest in an IPass will receive a volume discout for using the tollway everyday. Casual users will pay more. The same way you are screwed at the Cell when you pay full price for a ticket and season ticket holders pay less. Only in today's America could the forced purchase of an item in order to avoid a random doubling of a price for the same service be considered a "volume discount". iPass buyers recieve no discount whatsoever, except when compared to the penalty a non-iPass buyer suffers.

VERY true comment about Sandberg's clean uniform. He'd slide on the bases, but RARE indeed was the defensive dive. To this day, every time I see a second baseman miss a ball to his right with a wave of the glove, I think "Ahhhh, the Sandberg Wave..." Sandberg was a very good hitter and an above-average defensive 2B, but IMO he should stand right alongside Ron Santo....on the outside looking in....

QUOTE (Texsox @ Jan 1, 2005 -> 01:41 PM) The main problem with the road construction system as it stands is waste and corruption. Crews with 3 guys sitting in a truck watching one guy work. I've seen it more times than I can count. Contracts with artificial built-in completion dates that call for bonuses if work is completed before said date. Result? Work takes EXACTLY long enough to collect the bonuses, not one day earlier. I'd also bet that road-related taxes are not one dime lower than they were before the toll money was added on. As is the case with almost all government issues, waste needs to be addressed first, before any more money is taken from people.

"And that genre you can't put a name on, it's called Indie Rock." I've also heard it called "nu-disco". I just call it not so interesting. Interpol's lead singer is a carbon copy of Ian Curtis. That's not inspiration, it's ripping off.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 1, 2005 -> 03:32 PM) chinese gangsters all around the park NINJAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY'RE EVERYWHERE AROUND USCF!!!!

Formerly and now currently ( again ) of Motley Crue. They're going on a US reunion tour, despite Mick Mars having a VERY serious illness that virtually guarantees that he'll be unable to complete the tour. He's had one hip replaced, he's going to need the other one done, only one of his vocal cords works, his eyesight, posture and hearing are affected by the illness and he only weighs 112 pounds right now. He says he's in constant, excruciating pain and that greed is his only reason to do the tour. If you saw them on the Tonight Show last night, you'd have been downright scared for Mick's health and life. It's THAT bad.

QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Jan 1, 2005 -> 11:52 AM) On the road: Buehrle 2.63 Garcia 3.25 At home: Buehrle: 5.02 Garcia: 5.37 Bring in Sheets, Mulder, Hudson, and Oswalt, and watch them suck it up in Comiskey. Seriously, we have more pertinent things to deal with than the actual players, y'all. And the fact that I rarely ever hear anything discussed on here about eradicating the friendly hitting conditions at home is both disturbing and depressing. Basically, White Sox baseball in USCF at the current time is the equivalent of Arena League football. But when we go on the road (insert 'licking chops' smiley here), then we have our chance to shine. It would stand to reason that the Sox players with power potential ( PK, Uribe, Crede, Rowand, Dye, Frank when he returns, etc. ) would be able to take similar advantage of USCF's dimensions. The Sox still have decent power, they just don't have league-leading power anymore. The idea is to become a better road team, and hopefully the changes they've made will help the Sox compete better on the road. The ERAs you've listed are a good start to that end.

I felt the exact opposite about American Idiot. With the exception of the title song, I found the CD kinda dull. Too much mid-tempo, acoustic-driven stuff for my tastes. My favorite disc of the year was definitely Rise Against's "Siren Song For The Counter Culture" - it's still in my CD player most of the time. Can't wait til Feb 19th, when Rise Against rocks the Metro!

QUOTE (winodj @ Jan 1, 2005 -> 09:52 AM) If he was, maybe we'd win something once in a while. He's just being a selfless and merciful God by giving championships to every other team in existence first....except the Cubs, of course....heh.....

Holy Crap, you GOTTA watch this show! They take Vince Neil, who looks like s***, and remake him....and he STILL looks like s***!!! They lipo him, do face work, redo his hair and clothes, and it doesn't matter ONE BIT!! And his fiancee is a f***in' MONSTER!!!! OMG, what a BEAST!!!! EDITED TO ADD that Desmond Child is an absolute prick. What an ego-riddled asswipe!

QUOTE (winodj @ Jan 1, 2005 -> 09:43 AM) Tolls are cheap in Chicago, even at 80cents. To Leave Jersey and get to Staten Island on the Outerbridge Crossing, 6 dollars. To Leave Brooklyn and get to Staten Island on the Outerbridge Crossing, 8 dollars. But getting INTO New Jersey is free! and I-90 has a LOT of traffic in Wisconsin, especially truck traffic, but the road quality improves drastically once you cross the border from IL to WI.

My favorite would be the one of Giambi injecting. Or maybe Sosa's car pulling away with the clock saying "1:37 pm", taken on the last day of the season.
