Speaking for only myself, I was glad the Sox were trying to get SOMEONE, not necessarily Matt Clement ( I wanted them to go after Jon Lieber ). But after the ship sailed, I was relieved that the Sox didn't raise the ante out of desperation. Clement is a decent pitcher, but the market overinflated his value. As it stands, given the payroll the Sox are allowing themselves to spend, they got a risky pitcher with the potential to be very good. Plus, Hernandez is cheaper and signed for a shorter term than Clement would have been. I think Boston overpaid for a guy who in my mind is a bit of a risk himself, having faded late in the last two seasons.
