READ THIS POST-NEW SOXTALK POSTING POLICY
The Critic replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Oh, don't worry, I went out there with the mower earlier, those little bastards got OFF that lawn in a hurry!!! Oh, wait....with the new policy, can I still call them "little bastards"???? :finger -
Abreu gets him EASILY at home, and then the sacrifice fly to CF becomes the 3rd out instead. Ugly, ugly inning.

READ THIS POST-NEW SOXTALK POSTING POLICY
The Critic replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I did read the thread, and I understand totally what the intent of this policy is. All I'm saying is that I hope it stays with this point, since every bad road begins with one step. I trust everyone "in power" here, but I felt that I needed to state my small fear, at least. -
Awful display of half-wit baseball. What a f***ed-up play. Lucky that the Sox got the benefit of the last f***up.

I fully understand that guy's anger, but really what else can the doctor say other than to apologize? He can't give back the 8 years, and I'm sure the guy feels s***ty, so what's he supposed to do? I'd be pissed off too, for sure, but "I'm really sorry" seems to be the extent of what can be said. I'm sure that there's gonna be a lawsuit and some money changing hands, but will the money give the guy back his 8 years? No.

Don't remember it, but it sounds lame so it was probably Steve Dahl. You should try emailing his website or producers or something.

This seems to be epidemic across the board in sports, though. Every time someone gets injured, EVERY organization goes into damage control, understating the severity of the injury. "Our trainers were able to re-attach Tommy's arm in the clubhouse and we expect him to make his next start, as long as normal blood flow is reinstated before his side day and no gangrine sets in..."

READ THIS POST-NEW SOXTALK POSTING POLICY
The Critic replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I understand the policy, let's just not go too far down Ban Boulevard. -
Uh oh, this means I get to see another 5th starter when I go to USCF on Wednesday. Oh joy oh joy. I'm going Friday, too, how many 5th starters do the Sox have? Can I possibly maybe see a decent pitcher on Friday night? Contreras, maybe? Please?
-
I just hope that Out Man's massive blast is more than just a happy accident, and maybe he can actually start to consistently look like he belongs. Whoops....Out Man goes down looking at Strike 3. "Straight ball, I hit very far.....Curveball, bats are scared...."
-
Thanks for the memories, Esteban, and best of luck wherever ELSE you play next year. The Sox need to go after someone else as a #1-4 starter in the offseason to put Garland down to his natural habitat at #5. Loaiza is NOT that guy, not anymore.

Is re-signing Jose really that bad of an Idea?
The Critic replied to JDsDirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yeah, solid stone. Other teams' fans don't see him every day doing the frustrating things he does, either. Some players look better on paper than they do when you have to watch them swing at sliders in the dirt every day. Jose at 5 million bucks = no thank you Jose at 1-3 million bucks = okay, if the Sox can't get anyone else I like the Counsell idea, too, for the record. -
I guess I can't blame them, since so many people consider that cramped, tiny-seated, poor-sight-lined obsolete ballpark a "shrine", but you have to wonder what has to happen to finally nail Wrigley Field's coffin shut....and how many people are going to be injured or killed by "Falling Confines" before it gets torn down. http://www.dailysouthtown.com/southtown/dsindex/29-ds1.htm

Farnsworth on the DL
The Critic replied to LowerCaseRepublican's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Wasn't it Farnsworthless who injured his foot a couple years ago by punting baseballs, too? Or was that someone else? I'm pretty sure it was him. What a tard. Oh, and this definitely helps the Cubs, since they can't put him in to allow 6 or 7 runs per outing. -
It's truly amazing that no one in the entire system can step into that 5th starter spot with ANY degree of success. Really really disappointing and frustrating. It's also interesting how lower expectations bring different reactions to how a pitcher does. If Jon Garland gives up 5 runs in the first inning but then "settles down" and doesn't allow another run, everyone would be calling for his head on a stick. Grilli does it and 1/2 the people ( EDIT TO CLARIFY - not 1/2 the people in this thread, but in general ) will want to put him into the rotation for the rest of the year. I understand the reasoning, but it's still funny to me...
-
Gload's a decent bench player, but any team that has to start him regularly is either riddled with injuries, a last-place team or both.
-
I'm still happy about the trade, even though I really like Olivo. Freddy's been good for the Sox, at least until his forearm fell off, and Ben's been a nice surprise at the plate and solid behind it. Reed and Morse never played one game for the Sox, so I am unable to miss them.
-
This whole situation has gone from absurd to ridiculous. Mods offering to step down, rotating mod ideas, accusations and defenses flying around at amazing speed, posting in ITALIAN of all things???? This is WAAAAAAAY too much drama and wringing of hands for a simple Internet message board. While I ALWAYS enjoy reading Vince's posts - he brings ( brought? ) a viewpoint that I don't think anyone else on the board does - if he feels too uncomfortable to post here anymore, then so be it. These "soap opera" threads are interesting for a while, but at some point we have to get back to the business of deciding which 3 people in the entire Sox organization should NOT be fired.
-
Oh, I have a clue....I bought one about a week ago....just can't find it when I need it.....where DID I leave that thing?? :finger How DARE you.....
-
I agree about Freddy, but at this point I think the Sox are going to wave goodbye to Maggs. I'm disappointed about that, but I have to just take that as fact and move on. I just hope they find someone MUCH better than Out Man to play right field, though.
-
WTF? Pretty soon all there will be is new members and mods! Let me just say this - as long as The Critic is at Soxtalk, there will be ONE "veteran" poster who will never....."and the Critic means NEVER".....be a moderator. ....I'm anti-authority, maaaaaaaaaaaannnn......... :finger oh, and congrats to witesoxfan, Cheat and the Aussie with all CAPS in his screen name!

Ah Yes, Back in the Heat of a Pennant Race
The Critic replied to Wise Master Buehrle's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No, Joe Borchard is freakin' "Out Man". -
That's the risk. Scottie Pippen signed a long-term contract when he was worried about his back, and then he whined about being underpaid when his injury didn't end his career. He wouldn't have given one thin dime back if his career ended due to injury. You have to balance financial security vs. "fair market value". Sometimes you get burned. I do hope Maggs can continue his career, but I'm no longer sure I want the Sox to go after him all that aggressively anymore.
