  1. Joe Blowrowski!!! Seems this year they also have a closer with velocity problems, eh?
  2. (Alou hits ball) "This one's got a chance to go!!!!!!" (Ball is caught in medium deep right field ) Chimp Scary = retard
  3. Yep, giving up 3 runs per start SHOULD keep the Sox in any game Wright throws. The offense was off balance on Friday night - credit due to Abbott. The starters have been pretty good for the most part so far. I'm happy enough.
  4. Valentin's bat will come in handy at times this year, but if he's back on his 35-error season pace again, then Uribe HAS GOT to play more SS this year. Juan will have no shortage of playing time this season, between replacing JosE6 and Wee Willie.
  5. Yep, Kerry didn't get the "Maddux Corner" so he exploded. You can kinda see the pressure on them right now. It's got to be tough knowing that your season will be a total failure if you don't win the World Series. Baker, Wood, the Bleacher Creatures....they're all feelin' it right about now...
  6. SHOWNEYWISE ROOLZ!!! I have a feeling that Schoeneweis doesn't care how a message board spells his name, as long as it's spelled correctly on his jersey and his paychecks.
  7. No wonder Fernando's belly is so big - he's got someone LIVING IN IT!!! I'm a bit confused by the logic of "what does he do with 14 mil anyway". If that's the bargaining point, should Maggs start blowing money on cars, boats, houses, etc., to justify to the Sox that he needs the extra money? Do ANY of these guys actually NEED more money than any others? Maggs is looking for money in the range of the players that he considers to be similar to himself. What he spends ( or doesn't spend ) the money on is not really relevant, IMO. In my mind, what Magglio brings to the Sox is worth top dollar, since he delivers consistent offense and is a fan favorite. The Sox have enough trouble getting people to the park - losing a favorite like Maggs won't help that at all.
  8. No, I haven't. Is he on anywhere in Chicago? I don't do much Internet radio - too geeky.
  9. Being optimistic isn't being arrogant. Letting things play out isn't being arrogant. I'm just trying to be patient with this team - I won't be nervous about this team until some other team starts pulling away.
  10. Their pitcher was outstanding. Abbott kept the hitters guessing wrong all night. Also, yes - s*** DOES happen. The bats aren't going to be hot EVERY night. Wright made two mistakes that hurt him, but still threw pretty well. 3 runs will keep this team in most games. Shingo threw well. Just one of those days. Forget it and move on.
  11. Yeah, at least until the "his contract is keeping us from signing ______________" talk starts in a year or two. I personally think signing Maggs is a top priority for this team, and I'm glad to see that Sox management is thinking clearly on this one.
  12. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=1784155 Wow. This kid's had one messed-up life. The funny part is, whatever the "secret" he was afraid the "acquaintance" would tell the Blues will CERTAINLY come out now.
  13. Listeners = ratings = sponsor interest = financial support. It all comes down to listeners, because nobody ( except maybe the Democratic Party ) will advertise on Air America if nobody's listening. It's WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too early to bury or praise Air America - any new media outlet needs time ( probably a year or more ) to judge its long-term viability.
  14. The term "old-school" is thrown around like candy at a kid's birthday party these days, but Jeremy Roenick is TRULY old-school. He could have played in ANY era of hockey. He's as tough as they come.
  15. First appearance this season of the Suicide Shrug, too. PK flipped the bat with his head down and half-trotted toward first base. If we see that too much it can only mean bad news.
  16. Credit where it's due: That was an impressive comeback against a bullpen that had been very effective prior to that game. With the wind blowing out on a 75-degree day, I expected to see a softball score.
  17. I disagree on the anger point, to a degree. I think both sides have a fair amount of anger - if there's an angrier guy on the radio than Sean Hannity, I haven't heard him. Air America will probably last for the simple reason that each side needs the other, and there's nothing better for ratings than a feud. Can't really feud with yourself, or with the choir of listeners, so an enemy down the dial is the easiest target. It's worked for pro wrestling and Howard Stern for years.
  18. Not nervous. Starters are going to do well, I think. Wright will shape up, maybe even Shoenweis. Things are going to be okay.
  19. ...and the coattail ridin'.... ...and the legendary nickname, "No Tippin' Pippen"...
  20. Oooooooooooh, that kid is SO grounded!!!!
  21. Well, at least now we know why no one was able to find WMD in Iraq....
  22. I said this last time we had this discussion and this will be my only input to this thread, because I'm a bit bored of the topic: Frank Thomas signed a contract that gave his employer the right to defer his money. If he wants to blame anyone ( besides himself, that is ) he should blame his agent for agreeing to a trap-door clause like that. It doesn't matter what ANYONE ELSE in either league makes, because HE signed off on his own deal. He had the opportunity to test the FA market as part of that clause and either he didn't, or no one was interested in him at the pay rate he requested. I hope he has a MONSTER year, and whatever happens after that happens, but he made his own bed and now he should lie in it quietly.
  23. Here's my impression of this meeting: NHL: "We want to pay players less money." NHLPA: "We like things the way they are." NHL: "See you again in August?" NHLPA: "Yeah, sure, OK, no hurry." Unfortunately, FanOf14, I see NO possible way they reach an agreement without some sort of work stoppage. Neither side is rational.
  24. Maybe you'll get a COOOOL nickname like "PAPPY". UGH..............good luck, man............that's why they call it WORK.
  25. The REAL Cubs do enough funny s***, I don't need fake Cubs to make me laugh. No hard feelings at all, jr27!
