  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 8, 2010 -> 07:34 AM) So give him the phone number of someone you can't stand! What's your number again, Mike?
  3. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 8, 2010 -> 07:01 AM) Crud, I'm snotty and stuffed up and sick. Felt it coming on the last few days and now it's het me. No chance of staying home from work either. Grrr. Ooooh, those lucky co-workers!

  5. QUOTE (The Beast @ Mar 6, 2010 -> 02:19 PM) I've got good taste. She's going to replace Buehrle as my new computer wallpaper as soon as I get home. If we're talking about good-looking comedians, think locally. Mo Welch: http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e59/welchbelch/mo.jpg
  6. -- This week’s edition of TNA iMPACT drew a horrible 1.14 cable rating, with 1.5 million viewers. The first hour averaged a 1.3 rating, then the rating collapsed heading in to the second hour and diminished from that point on. The show closed with a 0.9 rating for their big angle with Hogan and Flair. Heading in to their historic move to Monday Night’s, you never want to see your rating/viewership drop in the latter part of your show. (Source: F4WOnline.com) Good. I hope the ratings drop through the floor every time Hogan appears on the show. The novelty of Hogan is wearing off, so now they move to Mondays. That novelty will wear off, too, and they'll eventually end up running out of tricks and gimmicks and shocking "new old wrestler" signings. Then MAYBE they'll write interesting storylines for the people they already have under contract.
  7. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Mar 5, 2010 -> 11:13 PM) Thanks Critic. Voivod is one of my favorite bands ever so I had to give 'em a plug. They probably would be called "progressive thrash"...an early influence of prog-metal. I personally like their more technical yet faster, more aggressive stuff (Killing Technology, 1987) than their all-out prog metal stuff (Nothingface), but for folks into superb musicianship, odd time signatures, a desire to use lots of minor keys, innovative song structures, conceptual weirdness combined with hardcore punk, heavy thrash, jazz and just plain ole' boogie woogie rock music, this band has never left me wanting more. But they are so weird sound and unique many people don't get them. They are sorta like a super fast and heavy Pink Floyd (even have covered a couple Floyd songs, including Astronomy Domine). To be honest, I like Voivod better when they kind of strip it down a little. My favorite Voivod song is Gasmask Revival. I'm not much for the prog-thrash stuff in general. It's interesting, but it doesn't hook me. I'm a sucker for a song with a catchy chorus, a riff that sticks in your head like Super-Glue, and a ripping solo.
  8. TNA has released Sean Morley aka Val Venis. Morley said he wants to work in Mexico, and TNA had nothing solid for him, so off he goes to Mexico. "HOLA, MUJERRRRRRRRESSSSsssss!!!!!"
  9. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Mar 5, 2010 -> 12:07 AM) For older fogeys in the crowd into progressive thrash and well...just thrash period...Voivod was masterful later night in Springfield, Va. Kreator was great too, but Voivod was simply amazing. Tremendous players and the music Denis (Piggy) wrote defined the word unique. They will probably be calling it a day soon, but it was one special last blast from the past. Also, Michael Langevin (drummer, Away) is probably the most down-to-earth musician I've ever met. The guy is amazing. I probably went to 200+ gigs back in the day and this one will stay with me forever. YOU ROCK Michael....and Voivod...but damned, wish you guys coulda played longer. And if any Chicagoland Soxtalkers were inspired by this review, Kreator and Voivod are playing the Bottom Lounge in Chicago next Friday, March 12th.
  10. QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 04:01 PM) A Chicago 2nd NFL franchise would go over about as well as the Chicago RUSH, but with much higher ticket prices.
  11. And TNA is not too pleased with Hack Hogan for ruining the surprise: TNA Reportedly Upset Hogan Leaked Major Surprise, SpikeTV Acknowledges RVD By Michael Bluth Mar 4, 2010 - 2:44:45 PM As previously reported, Hulk Hogan appeared on NYC radio host Jim Kerr's "Rock 'n Roll Morning Show " this morning and virtually confirmed that Rob Van Dam has signed with TNA Wrestling. While Hogan never mentioned Van Dam by name, studio cameras caught Hogan doing RVD's "pointing to yourself" gesture while talking about an exciting new talent acquisition that he just heard about last night. With TNA moving to Monday nights and now news leaking out that RVD has likely signed with TNA, the logical assumption is that Van Dam is one of the "major surprises" TNA is teasing for Monday's live iMPACT! According to prowrestling.net, people within TNA are said to be "fuming" mad that the RVD news leaked out. Additionally, it is worth noting Spike TV has acknowledged the news of RVD signing with TNA on Twitter, writing: RT @TNA_FANS: HULK HOGAN confirms "Mr. Monday Night" RVD has signed with TNA Wrestling! What the hell did TNA expect? Hogan is a glory whore who can't keep his mouth shut. That will never change.
  12. Wrestling legend Angelo Poffo, the father of Randy Savage and Lanny "The Genius" Poffo, died this morning at age 84. A message on Lanny Poffo's official website reads, "It is with heavy heart we announce the loss of wrestling legend Angelo Poffo who passed away peacefully in his sleep this morning age 84." Lanny Poffo posted a poem he wrote about his father, which you can read at LannyPoffo.com. RIP Angelo Poffo.
  13. QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 3, 2010 -> 03:13 PM) I'm sort of afraid to ask what a "head shop" is... Is "head shop" an old man term now??? DAMMIT!!! You'd think at least drug terminology would be timeless!!!
  14. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 08:23 AM) I just like picturing Stephen Colbert yelling that. Then follow it up with "YOU'RE DEAD TO ME, TALLON!!!"
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 08:18 AM) The Hawks were in a spot where their would have had to deal out as many dollars as they took in to get a goalie, and they had to make two deals to do it. So in otherwords they would have had to find a decent deal for someone like Buff, Versteeg, or Sharp to free up a decent amount of cash, because obviously they couldn't find anyone who wanted Huet. The Cap just killed us this time around. CURSE YOU, DALE TALLON!!!!!! [shakes fists violently at the sky] (I put it in green, but I know there are some who do blame him. It's an organizational decision to make deals, though, so there's lots of blame to go around.) I am glad that Vokoun didn't go anywhere. It's easier to accept the status quo when no one I would have wanted in goal for the Hawks gets traded elsewhere.
  16. Making the announcer a focal point is a mistake on any show.
  17. I'm disappointed that the Hawks didn't upgrade in goal, but I think I'd be more upset if any goalie of value was dealt today.
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 3, 2010 -> 11:31 AM) That wasn't the point he was arguing Yeah, I don't care about Rios compared to Rowand. All I was saying is Rowand was not the superstar some fans' revisionist history makes him out to be. Rios isn't a bargain, but Rowand at SF money would have been wasted money as well.
  19. QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Mar 2, 2010 -> 11:34 PM) Outside of attitude, Rios is so much better than Rowand. He had a poor second half last year. It happens it guys' careers. But you can't forget about Alexis Rios before that. He has a history of doing everything right. We'd be foolish to think that he's gonna be bad forever. Aaron Rowand had a great attitude, but its not like he was an all star caliber player here. Per season average: .283, 11 HR, 42 RBI 2005 Post-season: .266, 0 HR, 3 RBI He's been deified by some because of running into walls and being super-grindy, but Rowand was a good player here, never a great one. Certainly not worth the money SF ended up giving him IMO.
  20. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 3, 2010 -> 08:54 AM) TFP FWIW, in the last 24 hours I've read that Vokoun hasn't been approached, has been approached, was willing to waive the NTC, and was NOT willing to waive the NTC. This is the nature of rumors, so I'm done listening to speculation. We'll see what happens today and hope for the best. I don't believe that either goalie is as bad as he looked last night, but I'm not sold on either guy as a #1 for a Cup winner. This is not a team with a closing window yet, so I'm not panicking by any means.
  21. Do they have a third goalie they can bring in?
  22. I guess glove side high is a good idea for Islanders shooters. Yeesh.
  23. I was going to say he looked like s***, but "looks like Huet" works, too.
  24. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 2, 2010 -> 05:50 PM) Nick Boynton to the Blackhawks! I love Nick Boynton! per Pagnotta's Twitter He's been assigned to Rockford so his contract (2.95 mill) won't hurt us, I guess the Hawks really plan to be movers tomorrow. Yeah, but if they need to clear salary to bring Boynton up, would they still be able to get a top-flight goalie? It's going to be an interesting day tomorrow.
  25. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Mar 2, 2010 -> 05:16 PM) Per XM; Vokoun says no waiver of NTC. He must have kids in school or something, I know it's not the 24-27 record keeping him there.
