Japanese culture has US similarities but big also differences. I dont think maximizing every possible dollar matters as much in Asian cultures. Doesn't mean its not important, but other things matter more.

Third worst run differential in baseball. They right where they belong, but they actually have 4 big league starters this year, 5 when Teel is back. Pereira could maybe make six!

No one has proved me wrong more than Davis the past two years.

Swinging at the right pitches. Hitting them very hard. Not wasting at bats or even pitches. Skeptical it's permanent, but what he's shown so far is way way better than last year.

Defense and baserunning gonna make that almost impossible at a 100 wRC+, but the guy is a league avg hitter and those guys aren't awful.

Maybe the most unlucky hitter in baseball this year.

Guy is so good. He hasn't even learned how to pitch yet; change eye levels, work in and out etc. Still throws a lot of bad pitches with two strikes.

His body type makes the comp game hard (Not a lot of 6'3 shortstops out there), but I love non-similar body type comps. They're usually more accurate from an outcome perspective, but the look-the-part requirement always throws people off. Baseball still trying to get over comparing latin guys only to other latin guys in scouting and etc. I think Colson makes things look so easy that fans don't realize how great he's been defensively.

Said it this year when it was happening. He's got a big and very fast swing. When his timing is off even a little, he's going to look much worse than guys with handsy/more controlled swings who slump. When he locks in though, look out.

Defensively, he reminds me a lot of JJ Hardy, but with a little better range and a little lighter arm. Super smooth, and makes all the plays look easier than they are. Offensively, he's his own guy - unique to his position. He reminds me a little of a young Bellinger with the violence and path of his swing, with a little less unwinding/corking. He's got a lot more power than Seager, but Seagers hit tool is much better. If I had to pick a short stop, the guy most similar to him, in my opinion, plays today for the Orioles. Him and Gunnar are a lot a like, difference being Gunnar has already dropped an 8 WAR season in his career.

Last year, Vargas still stunk IMO. Certainly not an average starter at his position, especially given how deep 3rd base is (He was 16th of 18 qualified 3rd baseman last year) It's still early, but his gains this year have been actually really interesting. First, he's just swinging the bat harder, and a good bit harder - almost 2.5 MPH harder - and he's swinging harder more often. Funny remembering the story about Quero adding 3 MPH to his swing speed at drive line, while he's actually only up .5 MPH. He's also just not swinging at pitches out of the zone. He's always been a pretty disciplined hitter, but so far he's taken it to the next level, and the pitches he has swung at out of zone he has hit often and hard (as if he's swinging because he's looking there). He's been one of the most unlucky hitters in MLB this year. My only hesitance is he's a streaky hitter who has had really good 30 day runs before, but this one does look different to me. And agree, it's just the strength.

Among the seas of failure, this guy has been incredible. Since debuting last year, he has been the 15th most valuable player in baseball per fWAR, the 8th best defensive player based on an aggregate of the 5 most viable major defensive metrics, he has the 7th most home runs, the 5th most RBI's, and his wRC+ of 128 is 2 points behind Bobby Witt (130). He has been a SUPERSTAR. He's currently on a 6.5 WAR pace and that's with running a .239 BABIP. The only thing Colson needs to work on is his base running. When he started slow, the negative nancy's were out in full force. When he had one rough year in the minors, most jumped off the wagon. Kid is an elite athlete, with a great swing and incredible range. Give him his roses, because the White Sox aren't even giving him the respect he deserves and has earned. Most underrated and overlooked player in MLB. What he's doing as a 23 year old player with 80 games under his belt is wild.

Definitely understand your point, but Aaron Ashby is not a starter and Soriano is a monster.

Having an opinion is not the same as caring. It's honestly fascinating how taking non controversial positions (like if you have one of the the best shortstops in baseball, he should play shortstop) here at soxtalk lead to the same 3-4 people defending the stupidity and talking about how unhappy you must be for not supporting clearly dumb choices. As stated earlier, if Getz and Veneable started batting Mune and Colson 8-9, the same few posters would be defending it for lineup flexibility... no matter how clearly wrong something is, some will justify and defend.... and then victimize.
