  1. You may think the White Sox are a Mickey mouse enterprise when compared to other big league franchises, but businessman/lawyer jerry reinsdorf isn't lying about a contract offer to an employee in a market in which agents and employees talk to everyone. Jerry would openly lowball you to suppress the market way before he'd lie about a final contract offer.
  2. I think steve stone would enjoy having a respectful and intelligible conversation about the things you address. I don't think Steve Stone likes hearing people talk about that "cheap Jew Jerry" - which has littered the twittersphere for quite some time. In a vacuum, all thoughts would be read by people on social media but in reality those who shout the loudest and say the most outlandish things online are frequently the ones who draw the most attention... they also tend to be the most relentless. Positivity doesn't really present itself front and center in the world of anonymous keyboard warriors.
  3. This was released after Manny signed with the padres. The fastest way to lose all credibility in a business world with revenues in the billions is to lie about contracts and compensation. The sox weren't releasing a fake final offer.
  4. A front office isnt leaking a fake peak offer when an agent and player knows the truth. Players talk. Agents talk. This isnt a home game of "Bullshit."
  5. Price, Tanaka, hamels and Sabathia would be horrible outcomes for the sox at 7-250. Scherzer and Verlander are not the norm. Lester got half that amount - his back end is bad too, and getting worse. Kershaw and Stras really didn't hit free agency so they're not great comps.
  6. Yeah, and theres just too much information that says it's a likely net loss. Insurance isn't free, FTR.
  7. I wouldn't give any pitcher 7 years 250 million. Thats a hell of a lot of risk for a position as volatile as SP. Injuries and aging are a dangerous thing.
  8. Yeah, I heard him say last week that if the WS is won and they capture those revenue streams it opens up the possibility of Cole returning. They may just be nonsense but I found it interesting.
  9. In my non-expert opinion I'd say theres a 95% chance he stays in Houston (if they win the WS) or goes to the Angels.
  10. Yeah, it still impacts the data the following year, and we're all aware of the innings personally so we can evaluate based on our knowledge. Ideally they'd all be in there though.
  11. I'd also like to add that Reinsdorf being Jewish has led to a lot of horrible anti-semitic stuff being thrown out there on twitter and social media about him. People getting defensive and supporting someone they respect after something like that is completely reasonable as well. It's really at the forefront of the money conversations.
  12. No playoff innings on that export. I'd have to link a few data sets. I can do it at a later date.
  13. Guys this may be breaking news to you.... but fans are assholes - especially on twitter. Horrible things are said. You can tell them to get thicker skin, but you're absolving fans of their actions by doing that. Steve Stone isn't speaking to rationally frustrated fans; he's speaking to the lunatics that say terrible things and take it far too far because of a game. It's similar to how people used to tell athletes that they're paid a lot of money so it gives fans the right to berate and say horrible things to them while they're in the field. Its nonsense. Don't act like a child and an asshole and people won't treat you like one in response.
  14. I've heard good things about him. It's hard to be a hitting coach in the big leagues because you're teaching a lot of different approaches as opposed to teaching one approach at a lower level.
  15. Seeing the release off the fingers is nearly impossible - that is the hardest thing to read. You're better off finding the dot on the ball out of the hand. Pre-pitch sets are a big part of it. I always felt that when sale got angry he sped up his fastball delivery, with his arm and body, and it seemed noticeable. In general, how you manage your hands inside the glove and the location of your hands are usually the two easier ones to see. If you can pick up abnormalities at a younger age you really really benefit because a lot of kids dont even look for that.
  16. Or maybe, just maybe, they feel he's a good boss and they represent that feeling in public amidst backlash? That would be pretty normal in most of the business world.
  17. Yes, exactly this. It's actually difficult to get equal talent for stars in baseball because you take on a lot of higher risk assets. The Sox did great with all three of their big packages.
  18. Yes, when you adjust for positional value Alvarez was "better" at third because despite being bad there it's much worse to be bad at first than it is to be bad at third. He was bad at third and first but given that first baseman are judged vs other first baseman it's bad to be just as negative there. Kris Bryant is another one who is running lower comparative defensive metrics at first than other positions. What impact would age make? Wouldnt it be negligible when taking into account that they are moving to a position in which range isnt all that demanding?
  19. Nomar, Ryan Zimmerman, Michael Young, Pedro Alvarez, Hanley, Cuddyer, Grandal, Frazier, Glaus, and Desmond are a list of players who were better at their harder original positions than they were at 1st base. A handful of them are significantly better athletes. I pulled this from 2005 to today. The list is likely longer if we go back further.
  20. Oh. I can name some pretty bad first baseman that were better at other positions if youd like.
  21. Lester is 3rd amongst arms on that list in similarity score to Bumgarner; he has more correlation to Sabathia because Lester didnt miss time like Bum and CC did.
  22. What you just stated is literally the definition of an assumption.
  23. I point to this trade to remind them that they certainly deserve credit for acquiring the right pieces: Pirates acquire: Joe Musgrove, Colin Moran, Michael Feliz, and Jason Martin Astros acquire: Gerrit Cole Ouch
  24. The Sox dont need another low average high power bat coming over from the NL. They dont exactly have the world's greatest track record there. Schwarber has improved nothing since his first big league season. Why do I want to acquire a guy who has made no advancement in 1884 big league plate appearances? Better yet, why would I trade assets for that when I can acquire players with similar skill set for free? Also, who cares that he's 27 when he only has 2 years of control?
