Machado signs with Padres 10/300
Look at Ray Ray Run replied to yesterday333's topic in The Diamond Club
Why do you keep saying this? Preller didnt know a lot more about tatis. He could have signed him for next to nothing. -
Nah, the report will be that Boras never called back but that they were prepared to offer the best deal by far!
-
Will be funny if Boras doesnt even give a final bid and Sox are just sitting there waiting for the call while the news announces his signing.
-
Giants will go 10 for 350. Ownership doesnt just talk - when they want someone they get him. Giants gonna be saddled with big bad contracts all over the place.
-
I have said 100000 times the Sox are out on Harper and anyone holding on to hope is a dope. that was a joke of what could have been white Sox 4d chess.
-
Alright, for all the optimist let me give you a scenario in which this would be the White Sox playing 4D chess - they're not this smart, but this would have been genius. White Sox set Bryce Harper as their target at the beginning of the offseason. They make the big presentation, and love it. They come out of that thinking Harper is not going to sign early because of what Boras did last year. They see it's just them, the Phillies and Nationals seriously in on Harper at the time, and outside shot with Dodgers but probably not. Sox also meet with Machado but dont like him as much. Work ethic, knees and etc maybe dumb Sox concerns. Bat is good but not world class. Risk with aging and defense going faster. They start getting named the leaders for machado because they offer 8 for 250, and wanted Bryce. He fits the mold they want etc etc. They start leaking low offers like the 175 trying to get the Phillies to go over. They never buy in. Sox see San Diego and find a way out. They counter with the 2 dumb incentive years. Would make sense why SD didnt think they'd land him. Thought Sox would up 8 at 250 but instead just offered two bogus years. Meanwhile, Phillies don't get him so Sox are pissed. Also pissed because they realize how dumb they look pretending to be all in on machado. A 13 million dollar head fake gone wrong. They reposition and now arent sure how high they have to go for Harper. Phillies were talking stupid money and are out on machado. Sox thought that was the Phillies guy. Now they're competing with them and cant fail because the fanbase thought they screwed up the machado sweepstakes when it was the 4d chess plan to suppress the Harper market to them and... no one like it is now, by handing machado to the Phillies. But the Padres fucked that up. Sox play pr disaster control, and try to get it knocked away with Harper asap without anyone leaking the true plan or information. White Sox 4d chess. Lol

I dont think any of this matters - union wants the most money - but man... when I was playing baseball and my best friend too - I'd have taken less money if we're talking tens of millions to play in the same city for a decade. It would be so much fun to have had gone through that with him.
-
Crawford and Heyward weren't shocking to me. Sizemore was all injuries so that just happens - kid was an animal. Chavez was kind of like Heyward - lot of defensive value.
-
Padres - no Sox - out Nats - out How could Harper's number be getting too big?? No one is even bidding. Wtf
-
I'm not happy pal, but it's a game and stuff happens. Rationally speaking it's not the end of the rebuild and huge contracts arent always great. I'm disappointed too but it's not some fan breaking sin.
-
Machado is awesome but he is absolutely not a guaranteed HOF'er. Sizemore and Chavez are two guys you can look at - no baseball much? Sizemore was better his first four years than Manny. Chavez started out on fire. Nothing is guaranteed.
-
Eh, I thought his stake was a little larger. He clearly answers to some people... he doesnt have a majority share - he just has the largest share. I dont know if it actually matters or impacts things but I do wonder it...
-
Donate that $500 to a good cause. Plenty of people could use the assistance. Dont waste it on some billboard that accomplishes nothing.
-
Lol why? Its their own fault. Sox let everyone know very clearly they were not bidding on Harper. People who chose to ignore that are fools seeking misery and disappointment.

Jerry only owns 19% of the White Sox... my curiosity has had me wondering if Jerry is the face so he takes the fall for investors saying thanks but no thanks.
-
I think Anderson is going to destroy that number. Tim goes 3.5+ WAR this year.

Eh, those guys weren't striking people out at the rate Lambert was, nor were they preventing baserunners at the clip he did. Lambert had a FIP of about 2.75 last year with a K-rate north of 10.5. Guerrero was probably the closest to ever matching his production so far, but Guerrero always lacked the stuff imo. Jimmy has the stuff at least.
-
Jimmy Lambert is actually a great example to use showing the White Sox advancements with arms; Lambert's progress is classic White Sox for a pitcher. Instill the high fastball in his mind as being not a dangerous pitch, but an out pitch. Lambert's ability to maximize his fastball that way has led to his incredible improvement. His changing of the hitters eye level, paired with keeping his breaking pitches down, turned him from a pitch to contact organizational piece, to a strike out oriented pitcher with an impact ceiling. Lambert is maybe the most underrated story coming into this season, as his stuff is really playing up now, and it pairs terrifically with his above average (already) control. Lambert could be a right handed Quintana. The White Sox were actually the first team to really push the high fastball back into the game - well, them and the Rays I would say. I have no idea why fans don't think the White Sox are heavily invested in pitching analytics and data collection. They are. They say Cooper doesn't embrace them but he clearly does - he simply just doesn't talk in new age verbiage. Cooper plays the psychologist - which is very important for pitchers - and he sees pitching through a different lens. I actually believe they compliment each other perfectly - they being the White Sox analytics department and Cooper.

Machado signs with Padres 10/300
Look at Ray Ray Run replied to yesterday333's topic in The Diamond Club
Once again... the 175 has nothing to do with that. He didnt sign for 225 or something. He signed for 300 million. Padres wanna say they got involved because he was in at 175 and then determined after a meeting that he was worth 75% more than that and was actually worth the 300 million? It took preller that long to get ownership on board would be my guess. You dont say you got involved because the price was only 175 and then sign for 300. That makes no sense at all. If I see something on sale on accident for $1000 and show up to the store and buy it for $1750 I cant claim I bought it because of the sale. -

That was his expected price before the offseason - 300 million. If the Padres were willing to spend that then it makes no sense that they wouldnt have been in from day 1. It's all nonsense to me. They jumped in because they thought the bidding was at 175 and then paid 300 which was the expected sign price before the offseason began? Not buying it. -

This isnt your local fantasy baseball league. The owner should have more class running a billion dollar operation than to take jabs at his fellow owners. -

Lol they ended up paying 300 million. I have no idea how they could even say this.
