Sums up today. Wide open 3, miss.
-
Let's get to the tournament. Yikes! I cannot believe we can't beat this s*** offense.
-
Hulls hits normally, IU has this game. Pathetic. Pathetic basketball.
-
Lmao no foul???? Ohhhhhh my

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 16, 2013 -> 03:23 PM) I would coach Indiana completely differently, but Im not going to argue with Tom Crean's success against Wisconsin. Sure you would. Ill let UW have this, flame out early like normal, then let IU take a route without UW in the tourney.
-
Just end the game. I cannot watch this crap anymore. We play like dogs*** against them
-
Get the ball to Zeller. Simple.
-
Gosh I hope we can dictate the pace this half. Watching This is awful. They play nails against Indiana. Ryan's style is what holds back UW in the tourney. Hopefully he'll let dekker free next year.
-
It's unfortunate no one on Indiana has improved but Oladipo or we'd be up 30. Hahhhhhhh

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 14, 2013 -> 12:15 PM) I heard that IU boosters think of him as the second coming of Lane Kiffin. Couldn't be further from the truth. He would have been gone after the 3rd year then. Creans always been an "ass". Now that he's winning big and recruiting at an elite level, there's just more people whining and taking notice.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 14, 2013 -> 11:16 AM) Except for the part where he questions Crean. NEVER QUESTION THE ABILITY OF COACH JESUS CREAN. What's everyone's prediction for the tourney? Mine is Illinois gets beat by Minn, Indiana loses to Michigan and Michigan State loses to Michigan in the final. Burke is the MVP. I think every Indiana fan questions Crean at some point or another... We just questioned your thought process earlier in the week.

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Mar 12, 2013 -> 02:16 PM) THIS. Lots of sweeping generalities from both sides in this thread. Certain guys are self-motivated and will put in the extra time to get better (Victor Oladipo at Indiana, Deron Williams at Illinois comes to mind). Deron and Luther Head made Bruce Weber a great player development guy... until he wasn't. I'm sure Crean helped Wade when Wade was at Marquette, but it isn't like Crean was working with Wade every offseason as he became the player that willed the Heat to the '06 Finals (or Weber with Deron to make him an Olympian). Likewise, I'm sure Crean has helped Oladipo, but it's Oladipo that's making the decision to stay in the gym late and put in the extra hours to improve as a player. The impact of a college coach on player development generally is seriously overstated. I think we all agree on this, except for the guy saying Oladipo getting better isn't because of Crean, nor did he get much better until this year. That's just ridiculous homerism.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 12, 2013 -> 11:16 AM) I don't think his numbers show that. He played more minutes and so his numbers went up, but his shooting percentages were down. You can't solely look at stats. Victor made a huge jump last year too. You don't think Crean had anything to do with Victor's improved shot and ballhandling? We get it, you don't think Wade, Diener, Novak, and now Oladipo are in the NBA because of anything Crean did. We understand you hate the guy. The guy can develop wings, especially lowly 3 star ones. That may be why he has 4 and 5 star wings knocking down the door to come play for him... I honestly cannot believe you are trying to make this arguement. I don't think you've watched Oladipo play up until this year, have you? If you have, it's even more hilarious.

QUOTE (farmteam @ Mar 12, 2013 -> 01:29 AM) For next year, we're currently 3 over if everyone were to say. I'd be shocked if Oladipo doesn't leave, so there's 1. I'd be surprised, though not totally stunned, if Zeller returned, so there's 2. Seems likely Creek could leave (severely limited by his injuries, he's graduated, just became a father), so that would be 3. Even if all three of those don't happen, there's enough possibilities that I'm sure it will be under control. Not as sure about the years after that, and there's too many variables to really figure it out. Yep. Creans been asked numerous times on his radio show. Keeps saying "he's not stupid, and there's a plan A, B, C, for whatever happens after the season". It just makes it easier for him since he can't develop, nor coach, so it's just a revolving door, right? He's probably alright with this for a couple weeks, though...

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 11, 2013 -> 02:53 PM) He just won the Big Ten. The Indiana roster is his responsibility. I'm no Indiana fan, and Crean has always seemed a little odd to me, but coaches that win, whether they are known to be the greatest at designing out of bounds plays or not, are doing something right. Would Marquette rather have had Crean be known as a better Xs and Os guy and not land Wade? Getting Wade is part of his job. This year he won the Big Ten. All the other stuff is nitpicking. Would you rather have a guy considered a better game coach and come in 5th? As long as he's doing it cleanly, I don't see how Crean, if he keeps landing these recruits, is not worth his weight in gold. Logic has entered the thread. Amazingly, recruiting IS part of the coaching job.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 11, 2013 -> 02:50 PM) Didn't you guys want to see more growth out of Zeller? Didn't you want Watford to play better this year and not regress? Didn't you want Hulls to learn how to play defense for one game in 4 years at IU? As an equal opportunity hater, i'm just as unimpressed with Groce's ability to coach. I think Henry is the only guy that got better as the season went along. Everyone else has maintained (Richardson, Griffey, Abrams, Egwu) or regressed (Paul, Bertrand). Seems to me that you're just looking at stats and saying "oh, he regressed from last year". It's called TALENT INFLUX. So because Watford doesn't take over games like he used too, he regressed? Um no, it's because Zeller and Oladipo are two of the top players in country. Who does IU go to when they need something? Those two. Watford, Hulls, and Sheehey fill their role extremely well because they don't have to "get theirs" to be happy. Which is why Indiana is one of the top 2-3 TEAMS in the country. As for Hulls, he's one of the smartest defenders on the team. He definitely has his limitations. I mean, look at him. Did you expect him to suddenly grow some length, height, and improve 10" on his vertical? Come on man.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 11, 2013 -> 02:42 PM) Nice retort. Show me an example. Is Zeller better this year than last year? Hulls? Wafford? How about Yogi from the non conference to the conference season? Crean's accomplishments have come from having a top 50 all time NBA player and 2 National Player of the Year nominees on the same team. If you're seriously suggesting it's because of his ability to coach em up, you have not been paying attention. I'm not at all suggesting he can't coach - he's been a coach at two high level D1 schools, obviously he can to some degree. I'm just saying he's not known for his coaching and hasn't really shown the ability to out coach some of the other really good coaches in the league to this point. Sorry, I didn't think you deserved a retort. If you can't see improvement, then you don't want to see it, period. Oladipo went from nothing to POY candidate. Zellers numbers are up this year, finishes better with contact. Watford? Did you see him his freshman/sophomore years? Same with Hulls. You don't think Hulls has improved since he got here? LOL... Sheehey is one of the best 6th man in the conference. Yogi from the non-conference season to now? Have you watched IU? He runs the best offense in the country to perfection. I mean, this argument is a moot point because you don't like Crean. You can't turn every single player you recruit into an All-American (evidently like all the other coaches can, right?). Players peak, some early, some late. If you can't see that Indiana has gotten better since Crean arrived, you're helpless.
-
I guess we should just discredit Crean because he gets "good players". No kidding? That's one of the keys to WINNING basketball games. Should Crean take a couple years off to let some others have some recruits? WTF?
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 11, 2013 -> 01:36 PM) See, I would argue that he hasn't really made any of his players better, he just simply has better players. Zeller hasn't gotten much better in his two years. He still has the same good skills, as well as the same weaknesses to his game. Oladipo made the jump, but I think everyone would agree that was sort of an unexpected fluke. It's not like his basketball "skills" have increased, he just gives 110% Derrick Rose style effort and has a knack for making critical plays at critical times in the game. I guess that can be Crean influencing his basketball IQ, but I dunno, he's still not some guy you want dribbling the ball needing a basket. He's the perfect glue guy, not the go-to-guy. Hulls/Watford/Sheehey do what they've always done at IU - shoot the ball. If they aren't hitting their shots they don't impact the game that much. LMAO Good lord...

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 11, 2013 -> 01:22 PM) Wait. What makes him one of the best developers of talent in the country? B1G fans can turn a blind eye with their Crean hate and say Crean can't coach or develop, but it's a huge reason he's racking up huge recruiting classes right now. Each kid keeps pointing to "how he develops players", Vonleh especially. We get it. Everyone hates Crean outside of IU and MSU fans. Indiana used to have a coach that everyone despised too. As long as Indiana is winning, doing it the "right way", and kids are awesome off and on the court, IU fans are going to be estatic.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 11, 2013 -> 01:07 PM) Has Stevens ever mentioned Indiana? Is Indiana really one of those top 5 programs? He just took two teams from Butler to the championship game, so it's not like you need to be one of "those" programs to win consistently. I dunno, I think he's Duke bound or he's staying where he is - making a ton of money with half the hassle of a big time program. Stevens grew up a huge IU fan. His father played football at IU and his mother went there too. Won't matter, Crean is a recruiting machine and one of the best "developers" of talent in the country at this time. He isn't going anywhere anytime soon. They'll be consistently in the top 20 for however long he is there. Next year will be a "down" year, but a down year now includes an NCAA birth, top 5 B1G finish, and a chance to make some noise in the tournament.

smh at all these wannabe doctors in here...

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Mar 7, 2013 -> 07:58 PM) Bulls***. The fans didn't run in there and cut down the nets. IU as a whole decided to do it. Let's not pretend this is the Hickory HS team finally making it big or something, which seems like what Crean would want people to believe. All it takes in college basketball is a few big recruits. They got them, and they are winning. This isn't complicated. It's not a bunch of walk-ons winning the BT all of the sudden. I have no problem celebrating a BT title as that's a huge accomplishment regardless of recent seasons (though you'd think they'd want to wait to celebrate it outright if they can do it), but doing it after blowing winning it outright and a loss is dumb. MSU did the exact same thing last year. The EXACT same thing. Not a peep from anyone.

QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Mar 7, 2013 -> 12:19 AM) It's been a tradition since the 70's. Jim Crews brought it to Evansville, so I am familiar with it. Basically, the players have the mic without a time limit. Some talk awhile, some make jokes, some get real emotional. Heard there have been a few marriage proposals. As far as the nets being cut down and celebrating the title, I'm okay with it. From a distance its kinda weird, but the rationale was this year was special because of the journey it has taken to get there and this team will be considered special in IU history, regardless of how the season ends. They wanted to do it in front of fans. I'm sure everybody wishes they would have done it after a win. But how is it really different from a baseball team celebrating a division championship after a loss when the other team in contention lost also? Don't see it everyday, but to me, I say let them have their moment and its not time to take care of business and keep your eyes on the bigger prize. Agreed. Though, what I do find odd is that this is such a HUGE deal to everyone this year, when MSU did the exact same thing last year after losing their outright title.

Official Recruiting Thread II

QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 21, 2013 -> 05:03 PM) Reggie Rose is handling Cliff Alexnder's recruiting and screwing around with things. Cliff wants to go to Michigan State but Reggie holding up commitment somehow. Cliff may have to transfer to prep school to qualify. I think this is precisely why Crean backed off. I thought for sure he'd be committed to Izzo by now.
