Official Soxtalk 2006 World Cup Thread

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 11:43 AM) Bruce only had him out at one Friendly just to cap him. He wasnt in the heart of qualifying so even if he was healthy he would of been a long shot. Spector Boca Gooch would of been a nice backline. Tall, athletic, and quick. Pope is well past his prime, Lewis is not a defensive player at all. I figure the next Bruce thing will be to get Ben Olsen his other pet project into the starting 11. Eddie Lewis is pretty much terrible regardless of where we play him on the field. I've always liked Bocanegra but for some reason he has never gotten much time with Arena's squad. He can't possibly be any worse than Eddie Pope is at this point. Going into this world cup I knew we would have a hard time scoring goals, but now I can't quite figure out how we are going to stop the other team from scoring either. -

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 09:01 AM) Spain is looking dominant against Ukraine. And Raul isn't even on the pitch. 3-0 now, and the first penalty of the 2006 world cup has finally been taken. This game has potential to be really ugly now that Ukraine is down a man. Spain might be looking to take out all of their past World Cup frustrations out on this game. -
Roethlisberger injured in motorcycle crash

Big Ben Ebay Auction Too funny not to post... Its just very sad and kinda telling that the vast majority of injuries that Ben sustained would have been avoided if he was wearing a helmet. Broken Nose, teeth, fractured skull, lacerations all to the face. Needless to say I doubt he will be an advocate of not wearing an helmet after this accident. He definitely is one of my favorite QB's so heres hoping for a full recovery. -

Ozzie Lambasted Over Weekend. Do you Agree??

QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 12, 2006 -> 11:56 AM) It would be a bit out of character for Ozzie to offer a "no comment", to say the least. Yeah no kidding..sadly, thats about the only issue I have with Ozzie. The fact that he has to be in the center of a contreversy even when it doesn't even mildly concern him. Well and his use of the bullpen sometimes......... -

My opinion of Ozzie talking about Grimsley is pretty simple. Why in the world is Ozzie even bothering to talk about Grimsley??? I'm aware that the media probably brought it up in a question to him but has he ever heard of 'No Comment' or 'Thats not my business' as a response to any situation? IMO, Grimsley's statements are the best thing to happen to baseball in a while. I can't wait till congress steps in and forces them to test for HGH once a reliable test is available. -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 12, 2006 -> 11:28 AM) Ooh damn, Reyna puts it off the post. LOL..I'm intentionally avoiding the World Cup thread because I'm going to watch the game when I get home from work. So I'm hanging around in the palehose side of the board and Jas manages to post something about the game. NICE -

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 12, 2006 -> 10:14 AM) This gushing about the US is starting to really piss me off. Every f***ing game has a 10 minute span where all they talk about is the US. These announcers are horrible. I've had to watch these games on the Spanish channels because everytime I flip to ESPN, their talking about the US. I mean, come on. I understand that the country, well, 5% of it, is excited about their team this year but if you're going to choose to cover the World Cup, cover the World f***ing Cup, not the US. Holy s***! After the 1st half in the AUS/JAP game, what does it say will be on during the halftime show? A f***ing US report. TALK ABOUT THE GAME I AM f***ING WATCHING! I WILL HEAR ENOUGH ABOUT THE US WHEN THEY ARE PLAYING THE CZECH REPUBLIC. HOLY f***ING s***! /end of rant Um..you are aware you live in the US right? I'm pretty sure every country focuses their news towards their own team..I could be wrong here as I have no basis for my argument. My Predicition: CZE 2, US 1 -
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 04:14 PM) Ashlee >>>> Jessica and 99% of other girls in terms of looks. I me some Ashlee Now I'm agreeing with Jas..how far have I fallen? I dunno about 99%, I'll say 98% and that is my final answer.

I'll admit it, I kinda liked her old nose.

QUOTE(SnB @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 01:01 PM) fair enough, whenever I got to a game, I leave AT LEAST 2.5 hours before first pitch, usually get their around or before the gates open. It's a win-win situation, beat the traffic and get to spend more time at the park Enjoy your youth With my job I struggle to make it there by gametime...

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 11:03 AM) I think we'll try Pods in CF, and Ozuna in LF. Is this the same Pods who now is pulled for Mackowiak for defensive purposes late in games?
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 10:52 AM) The Sox aren't going to bring Sweeney up to play CF. Jerry Owens is hitting .220. He's not coming. Last I checked, the Sox don't have locks on the entire contents of their stalls in the clubhouse, so Rivera isn't coming, and they aren't going to bring a guy from AA who will be just as bad as Anderson offensively, while giving you less defense. Like someone said before, its either Mack, Ozuna, or Pods in CF or a trade, and I don't think anyone's looking to do KW any favors. Thats exactly what I was trying to point out when I posted those split stats. The Sox has no one in house who can replace Anderson defensively. Offensively any of these players may provide slightly more production, but its not enough to warrant bringing up another prospect or even a has-been prospect like Ruben Rivera. All season I've been a huge BA supporter but it is almost painful watching him at the plate right now. I dont know if you can stick with him all season simply because I hate to see a proud kid like Brian struggle and can only imagine what this is doing to him mentally day in and day out. It is affecting our offensive production, just like Uribe is, but when Brian isn't in the outfield our defense goes from average or slightly above to just plain bad.
-
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 10:46 AM) True, but I am thinking perhaps: Sweeney D > Mack D and Sweeney O >>> Mack O If those are true, then he may be a good option. If they are not, nevermind. But its a thought. I highly doubt that Sweeney will be a more productive offensive player than Mackowiak at this point in his career.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 10:42 AM) How many starts has Sweeney gotten at CF? Very few..I dont know exactly why but for some reason Sweeney has only been playing 4 or 5 times a week since coming off the DL a few weeks ago. I dont even know exactly why he was put on the DL in the first place, so I'm not sure if he is still nursing an injury or something.
-
For conversations sake: Ricardo Nanita's Splits: .291/.383/.422 24 years old (first year in AA) Ryan Sweeney: .308/.362/.403 21 years old (first year in AAA) Ruben Rivera: .222/.295/.348, 32 years old (I think he used to play some CF back in the day) Jerry Owens: .223/.285/.295, 25 yrs old (first year in AAA)
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 10:33 AM) Ruben Rivera or Sweeney, from what I remember Actually Sweeney and Owens get most of the starts in CF for Charlotte. Ricardo Nanita is the starting CF for Birmingham.
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 03:22 AM) Ryan Church is your man, with Corey Hart and Chris Denforia not far behind. Didn't Washington just send Ryan Church down to the minors? I would imagine he would come pretty cheap because he is only collectively hitting around .210 for the year. Also how in the world do you think that the Brewers would be willing to trade Corey Hart? Aren't they very high on that kid?

QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 07:57 AM) It must be broken. 44% evil... Thats because it didnt have a question asking: "You're so evil, you lied on this test to look less evil" Anyways I got a 52%

QUOTE(ottawa_sox @ Jun 2, 2006 -> 05:11 AM) Pablo Ozuna has been working out in center. Podsednik should be embarrassed knowing that instead of moving him back to CF, they are considering Pablo Ozuna out there. I still can't believe Pod's has 5 errors in LF already this year, he is lapping the field in errors. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 2, 2006 -> 09:33 AM) WHy the CF talk again today? I dont think that was the issue at all in this series. Well I do agree with you, because the bullpen was torched yesterday. But a solid CFer would have caught at least one of those doubles. As we already know Mack is at best average out there and it is costing us some runs.
-
If we address CF before we go after a bullpen arm or two Imma gonna be pissed off... BTW statheads can I get the White Sox record when BA starts compared to when Mack starts in CF?

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 03:22 PM) then something must have changed since may 25. in the interview at the link his quote is: i know how recruiting is and kids are fickle, so i suppose it's possible he has kicked off usc and added illinois. any link for this? not trying to be an ass, it's just that as an illinois fan i'd be very excited if we were back in the picture. Its a premium article but according to the Scout boards Illinois is still in his top 5.
