:That quote from Ozzie is music to my ears... 4 of our 5 starters (Mark, Garland, Freddy and the Count) have all been consistently goin 7 innings almost every time out. With them all pitching that well there is no room for a long reliever with the talent that BMac has to sit and rot on the bench. Well I'm officially a mang for the rest of the day

QUOTE(robinventura23 @ May 25, 2005 -> 07:45 PM) This is Donn Pall's last game. Black Jack will be in the booth tomorrow night. Mike Huff Will be with DJ in Texas. The Pope was on the Score and said this. I have to hand it Donn Pall, he's done a decent job since his first game. Black Jack...hmm, well hes pretty opinionated when he wrote for Yahoo.com...that should be interesting And Mike Huff...I always liked him when he was on the sox, granted he wasnt that good. Crazy stuff -
5-6 on the weekdays; 6-8 on the weekends Sleep is overrated...

QUOTE(beck72 @ May 25, 2005 -> 12:17 PM) Just curious, why does he need to throw every 5th day? Is to keep Stretched out? He's already had all his work and able to throw 5, 6 innings as it is. If he threw on the side by being in the pen and coming into games, he'd throw a lot of pitches to stay strong. Is it to learn how to pitch to AAA hitters? Cotts learned how to pitch last yr in the pen. Another thing people haven't talked about--is BMac more likely to get hurt throwing in AAA as a SP, or in the pen in the majors? Seeing how he's not a fireballer, but a guy who relies on location, BMac won't overthrow in relief. He's less likely to get hurt by being in CHI. He needs to throw every fifth day because his future on this team is as a SP. He has the stuff and mindset to be a starter, and at this young age there is no reason for him to be up here for mop up duty. Neal Cotts could go on to be a starter but there is/was a need for another lefty reliever and he has filled in adequately in that role. Injury should never be a factor when making a decision like this. You dont place your players on certain teams b/c they have less of a chance getting injured. He needs to start on a consistent basis, plain and simple in my opinion. I really wish this wasn't even an issue as I see no reason for him to be in the bullpen.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 25, 2005 -> 10:56 AM) Mark was also called up in July of 2001 when this team was already dead and buried. Brandon also needs his innings. I think putting BMac in the bullpen would be a travishamockery of major proportions....AKA, not a big fan of this idea.. It does fall in line with alot of our young pitcher mismanagement of the past decade or so...we love to put pitchers in positions to fail.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 25, 2005 -> 10:53 AM) Sandy Koufax? how's that? Everything I have ever read about Sandy, Mark sounds nothing like him. I really dont see that at all...If were gonna go in the way back machine I would have to say Warren Spahn is a better comparison...But now I'm just pulling names out of a hat...

QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ May 23, 2005 -> 09:28 PM) A team based out of Gary. I'm not sure what their name is because they have a sponsor and a team name, so I'm not sure exactly what theyre called. Oh ok...thats cool..and they beat the Illinois Wolves...thats a really nice win for a smaller AAU team

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ May 23, 2005 -> 03:22 PM) Once again, Hidden ball trick is much different than what Uribe did. Uribe lied, not deception, lieing. Deception is when you do things to make the other team believe something that is not there. Deception is when you play action, deception is when you make a pick off move to first base, when you pretend at second that a ball is being thrown to you. The difference between deception and lieing, is that in deception the other team makes moves based on what the percieve you to be doing. When you lie, ie tell some one it is foul. It is no longer deception. SB So by this definition deception is not lying? deception n 1: a misleading falsehood [syn: misrepresentation, deceit] 2: the act of deceiving [syn: deceit, dissembling, dissimulation] 3: an illusory feat; considered magical by naive observers [syn: magic trick, conjuring trick, trick, magic, legerdemain, conjuration, illusion] Hmm...youre walking a real fine line there... Deception = classy lying; hmm, i'll make sure to remember that one

QUOTE(Steff @ May 23, 2005 -> 03:25 PM) To be honest.. I think I initially thought that ball was foul.. anyone else..?? I definitely thought it was foul, mostly because Paulie was holding the runner and still couldnt get to the ball...also liners hit directly over the bag are almost always called foul by the umpires nowadays.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ May 23, 2005 -> 03:19 PM) Just that it is beneath the first place team. I'm glad I jumped in on this thread when I did!!! This is some good stuff...this play is beneath us because we are in first place?? Wow we are some cocky SOB's b/c were in first place...the season is only 1/4 over we have a long, long way to go. And how did we get there? Playing Hard, playin to win, this team has more heart and character than any Sox team in the past 10 years. If youre against this play, which was harmless IMO, you would definitely be against having AJ Pierz as your catcher too...do you have any idea how he acts behind the plate? There is a reason hes a good catcher...

So when the hidden ball trick has been implied in the past all of you 'goody goodies' were outraged. As least I'm assuming you better be because that is 'bush league' GIVE ME A BREAK....

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 23, 2005 -> 03:00 PM) Interesting. Who returns punts now? Vasher I would guess. Maybe Clayton? Bernard Berrian is the leader in the clubhouse according to this article: Chicago Sports-Berrian has leg up

QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ May 23, 2005 -> 02:24 PM) I've never seen him play, and I'm not an Illini fan. I've only heard from my friend that has played against him in AAU, not the state tourney, that he wasn't as good as advertised. Time will tell though. What AAU team does your friend play on?

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 23, 2005 -> 02:47 PM) I don't know what speed you were driving, but it took me almost 16 straight-thru Chicago to Fort Collins. 10 is definitely illegally fast. Considering it took almost 8 hours for me to get across just Nebraska. (that state never ends.) It does literally never end...and I-80 covers every mile of its width. IIRC, it does take alot longer than 10 hours....

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ May 23, 2005 -> 08:49 AM) Ozzie is going to be Ozzie. You take the good with the bad. I wish when I said something stupid people just looked at it that way....

QUOTE(ISF @ May 23, 2005 -> 07:59 AM) Luisa needs to be shuttled for Bajenaru. I can't believe Guillen entrusted BMac's game to his worthlessness. Vizcaino = 45 Year old Mike Jackson I'm not sure how this happened, but he is the exact same pitcher Jackson was during his tenure with the White Sox Slider, Slider, Slider, fastball out of the zone, slider, hanging slider, slider, hanging slider, fastball...Its a joke He used to be a 92-94 fastball pitcher with a good slider. Now hes a slider pitcher with a 91 mph fastball that he can't locate

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 23, 2005 -> 07:59 AM) Calm down there, bud. I just thought I would try to see what really happened since it was a questionable call in the game and the wind was pretty much blowing everything out anyways. I agree its great to look at the picture but to go back and forth... It was in the basket, laces arent green :banghead It looks outside the basket, blah blah blah :banghead Sorry I guess I'm just crabby

QUOTE(YASNY @ May 23, 2005 -> 07:55 AM) One thing for sure, you can't "clearly" see it either way. Either way, 'clearly' this thread is meaningless...who cares its a 2b in the book, the cubs won the game HR or not so whats the point???

Dusty's son = Ozzie's cursing and ranting and raving Every manager has a way to avoid actually answering the tough questions after a difficult decision....call it a cop out or whatever... But the fact is to judge if he made the right decision or not at this point means absolutely nothing...there are arguments for both sides.

QUOTE(Brian @ May 23, 2005 -> 07:40 AM) The multiple replays showed that it looked like it did not go in the basket but that is rather conclusive. God forbid Wrigley ditch the baskets and let a ball actually go in the stands for a homerun, and yes, I know Iguchi's was a basket shot. Good for them...If they are goin to have the baskets then fix them up so the ball actually stays in the basket when hit into it...That place is such a s***hole. It is unbelievable that they don't fix anything when they sell out every game. Sunday I was in the terrace reserved section. Therefore you do kinda depend on the hanging TV's...too bad mine had a loose connection and every time the wind blew it blacked out. Plus those TV's had to be 15 years old, faded out pieces of s***. That REALLY pissed me off. All the money they make and they can't fix or replace a few television sets??

QUOTE(danman31 @ May 22, 2005 -> 09:32 PM) It's funny the things I keep hearing about Scheyer. Only a shooter, JJ Redick, overrated. You guys have no idea what you are talking about. Agreed You know they see white guy who can hit a three...and they label him a 'shooter' nothing else... Well if thats the case how come Scheyer lived at the line last season...he can get to the basket at will and finish...hes a pretty complete player. I've only seen him play 4 times...im sure danman has seen him a bunch more. Its just funny reading the posts on here...sour grapes
