  1. I'm on your wavelength. Free agency works fine for plugging holes with decent players but seldom for teams that win bidding wars. Trades for other teams' stars usually result in overpays. Trading our stars for their package of prospects works well as that is how we got where we are today. Use our resources to strengthen the bullpen, solidify RF, and fine some depth for the rotation. RH has a knack for signing great extensions and ultimately that leads to top dollar received when trading players down the line. That is a good recipe for long term success.
  2. The "Polish Prince" could have owned Chicago.
  3. Yep! ?
  4. I agree with your optimism...for the foreseeable future. If nothing else it is a lot more fun than the "if it can go wrong it will go wrong" attitude. I was thinking recently of the early 1960's teams on which my favorite player was Floyd Robinson who could hit in the low .300's with a dozen HRs and about 60 RBIs. Man, I thought he was great. We now have a whole lineup that is watchable...not just a player or two. The bottom third of the 2021 lineup would be the heart of the order on a great number of teams I have rooted for. Fingers crossed...these are the first years of a dynasty!
  5. One more .220 hitter with power and I think I will lose it. Will we never learn?
  6. Richards is OK for depth but nothing special.
  7. I like your thoughts...especially the part about the souffle.?
  8. Amen!
  9. Hahn's work with contract extensions alone qualifies for GM of the year honors IMO.
  10. It might mean all the hoopla surrounding TL is not a done deal yet.
  11. Yeah...it might have been a little higher once he gets acclimated to the league. Good point.
  12. Yeah...those singles hitters that hit .340 in their rookie year are really easy to find. Give me a break.
  13. Wow...he sounds really good when you say it like that. He also is a dog lover. I sold.?
  14. When we traded Sale, Q and Eaton they all had high value in their contracts. Darvish and Bryant are very well paid. The Cubs need to be happy with unloading salary...not so much the return. I'm not giving a Madrigal for the privilege of paying Bryant or Darvish salaries. Use the money on FA's.
  15. If we trade Madrigal to the Cubs he will be haunting us for a dozen years. No Thanks!
  16. The players named have no established value that would draw interest in a meaningful player. Yet every one of the players mentioned has the potential to blossom into a really good player. A team like ours should be shopping in the free-agent aisle and keep our prospects for ourselves. Some of these prospects will not develop into anything but none of us know which ones.
  17. Albert Belle & Carlton Fisk come to mind.
  18. Yes...please sell to an extremely rich person who absolutely hates to lose.
  19. Amen!
  20. This is just plain wrong. He is criticized for his loyalty more than anyone I know.
  21. As a kid, I had the same level of radio reception like you. Fond memories of coat hangers and aluminum foil attached to the antenna to enhance the clarity of the broadcast.
  22. Bauer & Springer are the two top FA available. Given my druthers...I would take Bauer but either improve the team hugely IMO.
  23. If TL is going to be with us... I don't want his input into player acquisition. Make out the lineup card and handle in-game situations. I don't want him dealing with player acquisitions that will be affecting us long after he has left town. A coach or two of his choosing is fine with me but that's about it.
