Offseason Targets
Kopech, Lopez, Rodon, Cease, Dunning, Lambert, and Crochet all have the potential long-term. Need to start winning now. Guys the caliber of Charlie Morton, Q, and others are available until some of our young guys can develop. I have a philosophy of when you think you have plenty of pitching...get some more.

Offseason Targets
I want depth in starters...the need for 7 or 8 starters is just a normal year. Mostly I want a decent starter for every game and I know it's unrealistic to have 5 top tier starters. The day of 200 inning starters is gone for the most part. Current Starters: Giolito Next Year: Giolito Keuchel Keuchel Cease New #3/4 Dunning New #3/4 Lopez Lopez/Cease/Dunning/#5 type

Of course, Bauer is tantalizing but two #3 types + a #5 for depth would work for me.

Sox expected to be a "little bolder financially" than most
Two or three championships would greatly enhance that reputation and the value of the franchise.

They obviously don't watch him every day and every play like we do. Maybe we can keep him at a lower price than some of us think. Hope so!

Tony La Russa named Manager
I wasn't making the point that owners getting involved in hiring decisions works or doesn't. Just saying you or I have opinions and would probably act on them if we owned the team.

Jerry Reinsdorf has been around baseball and it's people longer than most of us. I'm sure he feels well versed in its intricacies since he has watched literally thousands of games. I can't imagine most of us owning this club and sitting quietly while our favorite manager is passed over to hire someone else. I know it sounds reasonable to hire the people to run the team and let them do it. However, most owners take some role in these matters with George Steinbrenner and Charles Finley being extreme examples. I am willing to cut JR some slack since there are bigger crimes than hiring a HOF manager to make on-field decisions. Can't imagine how I would have tolerated some of the lineup and in-game decisions these past 10 years. Pretty sure I would have stuck my nose in before now.

Yep! I think this is how it will play out.

We are getting Tony L whether or not we like it. We should focus on how excited we are to find out how the coaching staff lines up. The players available this offseason at reduced prices should have us in great shape come opening day. Feels good to look at this in a positive light...especially when nothing is improved by b****ing about it.

That announcer turned GM has been tried before. Doesn't always work.

Offseason Targets
All the signs point to us being one of those teams.

Who would you have hired?
No one knows who the best available manager would have been...we just have opinions. That's the fun of being a fan being able to pontificate from the cheap seats.

Wish we would get our new pitching coach on board soon. He should be part of the decision making process on pitcher acquisitions.

Offseason Targets
It's a one year gamble and gives us time for some of our young guys to develop. Worse that happens is he pitches like a #5. Best is he could contend for our #2. He very likely is appreciatively better than whatever Q will give us.

Yolmer claimed by Baltimore
Yolmer was great in the backup role. Wish him the best!

I'm thinking he goes wherever the money is greatest.

Time will tell if it was a smart move by JR or not. We will see.

Buncho Roster Moves: Edwin & GIO gone, Leury Back, others
I'm with you. Once we have all the pitching we think we need...get some more.

Tony was not my first choice but he knows how to manage what is going on in the field. Some players need a tough manager and others need a pat on the butt. This move should be judged after we see the staff assembled. Many times the coaches need to be the buddies while the manager is the decision maker that decides if your playing in today's game. Many of us like Eloy's happy go lucky nature but feel he needs to get his head in the game. Earl Weaver, Billy Martin, Dick Williams, Joe Girardi were all hard nose managers that knew how to win. Tony with 6 pennants and 3 World Series titles probably will do just fine.

I have really come to hate these home run or bust players. We watch this EEk type player do absolutely nothing in 3 out of 4 games.

Without a doubt!
