  1. Rules/rules/rules...it's all so complicated.
  2. If I was the GM of a contending team in need of a productive 1st basemen...I would go after Abreu.
  3. Pence would be a nice under the radar signing IMO.
  4. Makes me think I might not want him after all. Not much of a team guy.
  5. I believe the WS will spend around 160M. That should put us around 10th. I know that others think substantially less...we shall see.
  6. Good post. I would offer Fulmer and perhaps throw in Fry. No way I would give three players all with some hope of making the grade. Calhoun is available for just money. Bummer would be a non starter for me.
  7. Fulmer may have a future as a reliever with these new rules of facing 3 batters.
  8. Haven't removed anyone surprising but what do you guys think is the reasoning behind such deep cuts? Must be clearing space for some reason.
  9. I said #1 position player. The forum has beaten to death the starting pitchers, RF, DH and RP's needs and I have commented numerous times on the various possibilities. My feeling is that Grandal/McCann/Collins handles the DH problem while upgrading the catching. I am not a big fan of one dimensional DH types.
  10. Good philosophy but not how the actual system works.
  11. I am a fan of the Grandal/McCann/Collins sharing Catcher, DH and backup catcher. Two well rested catchers avoids the fatigue that all catchers experience while giving great mentoring to Collins. Martinez has been a great hitter but his back scares me in terms of long term commitments. Just the reverse of your take...if we sign Martinez I will soon be a big fan.
  12. I agree. Grandal is a safer choice to be productive for length of contract. Fits our situation IMO.
  13. I don't care if they got nothing for him...I just want him gone.
  14. Failed starters like Fulmer might take on extra value for their ability to face multiple hitters.
  15. I think RH may let the other teams set the value of Jose. He's good...but not 20 million per yr good.
  16. $500K here than another $500K there...pretty soon it becomes money.
  17. Grandal is my #1 want for position players. A fair offer probably lands him. He won't want a repeat of last year.
  18. Grandal and Pederson/Calhoun along with resigning Abreu would satisfy my positional needs. Those additions along with Robert and Madrigal will an amazing upgrade over the 2019 lineup.
  19. Baseball needs to fix this. The Winter Meetings were exciting and fans devoured every little crumb. Remember Hemond setting up his "open for business" sign in I believe Hollywood, Florida? Deals were being announced several deals per day it seemed. Now...big nothing. We spend the whole offseason (4 months) waiting on Boras to tell us what he has decided for his clients. I understand that the amount of money and complexity of the deals are very different today and that changes things from that era.
  20. The problem is Cole and Stras will wait forever to make a decision. If we are willing to accept Bum or Wheeler... need to strike early while others are treating him like a fall back option.
  21. Puig would not surprise me in the least as a WS acquisition. He will be cheap in relation to potential upside...and he just might flourish hanging out with Jose and Yoan.
  22. They sold extra tickets because with Anderson, Eloy, Moncada, Abreu and Geo where individuals worth watching.
