Real Bummer was untouchable in any trade. I wonder what the insiders think is the problem. Heuer seemed to have found a little something lately but Bummer is miles from his old self.

I think Jimenez, Robert, Vaughn, Engel, and Sheets will all get substantial playing time in the outfield. The two guys not playing outfield at any one time will be in the DH mix with Grandal and Jose. Leury keeps a job because of his flexibility and Hamilton has late-inning running and defense abilities. No room at the inn for anyone else.

I tend to think this way as well. However, I'm not usually thought of as a pessimist.

Yep...the outfield is going to get crowded when Robert comes back. Money needs to go to relief pitching and 2nd base.

We didn't know he could play left and he was actually very solid. He moves really well at first base and seems to be learning on the run. I understand he isn't sleek but I think he will be one of those solid types that handle the routine stuff well.

We should consider giving him the game ball.

I think this is exactly right. Currently, the argument is between one unimportant piece or two. If we give the Diamondbacks let's say both Adolfo and Mercedes RH will say we gave up a ton but the fans deserve his best effort. If we give up only one guy...the Diamondbacks say we think we got something special in "fill in the blank".

Fan perception counts for something. When we sucked and had nothing to trade we would have easily bought into the Mercedes hype. Whatever Arizona gets for Escobar... I bet it's not much sexier than Mercedes.

Their motivation is to save the 3 million and perhaps get a useable something. I suggested Mercedes in my original post because they would actually be able to claim they got something of value with the NL DH coming into existence in all probability.

This is just wrong.

At 7.5 million he is fairly paid and at a prorated salary I hope we get him. My point is simply that no one is going to overpay to get him.

He was second in the league in hitting if memory serves. I wish we had him now.
