  1. I must have been watching a different Jose Valentin than you. If he hits right handed against a right handed pitcher in 2004 I will personally runonto the field and tackle him at home plate. They have laws against that now, but no jury would convict you. Temporary insanity would make for an easy defense... Well, there's a problem. If you are infuriated enough by Valentin's hitting from the right side, then you are not crazy. It's like Catch-22, which is ironic if you think about it. The answer is Catch 22. The Question is What does Jose Valentin do with 50 grounders?
  2. Maybe Man Soo Lee could help us out.
  3. so true....thats why i came here, instead of posting on the "other board"...i couldnt take the trolls anymore I'm with both of you! It just got so damned old! I never understood what's so fun about being a troll. If you want to come here and debate something...great, but when they would post 50 new posts with no text and all that crap - that's when I decided enough was enough. I made about 200 posts over 2 and a half years on the MLB site, before and after MLB took it over. I've made over 1200 posts in less than one year on this site. What's that tell you about how much I like this place. Thanks again to Jas and the rest of the team keeping this place running and running well! AMEN!

  5. 1. Sons of umpires I watched as a kid are now umpires. 2. Ray Boone played for the White Sox. I saw him. His son of course we all remember. His grandkids are veteran players now. The Boone dynasty will outlive us all.
  6. MB has 3 years, 78 days service time in the bigs. Joe has 1 year, 124 days. Meaning basically Mark can be a free agent (GOOD MORNING ST. LOUIS!) two years before Joe can. ok, but when is the year mark can become a FA? next year? Generally you have to spend 6 years in the bigs before you can be a free agent. Each year there are a handful of guys who qualify for free agency with between 5 and 6 years' time, and I don't know how that happens. It's safe to say that Mark will be with us in 2004 and 2005. Unless KW trades him for Todd Richie.

  8. Would you think about how we are going to pay him? Well if he was willing to just play for a winner and come in rather cheap, I'd say it would be a great move. Don't know how willing he'd be to take a big paycut, but it would be worth Kenny making the phone call, imo. Thats if he can unload Konerko. He turned down the chance to join the Cubs in a pennant race.... He seems a mite picky.
  9. The press release is the second way to use Ripken, ARod and Tejada in the same sentence as Jose Valentin. The first, more common, way is to say "Boy, Jose Valentin is no Ripken, ARod or Tejada!"
  10. You should be working in politics, as the Master Spin Doctor.
  11. I think that was a career high for innings pitched. He might not be able to go any more than that. It seemed to me like he tired in September, so I wouldn't want to extend him. Those pitch counts can really affect you late in the year, right Dusty?
  12. I think his name is Alex, and I'm pretty sure he's Joey's brother. NOT his little brother.
  13. Forget the payroll increasing anything more than a marginal amount. That's not our way. At the moment we are looking at an outfield of CLee, probably a platoon of Rowand and Harris, with Maggs in right, altho he could be traded. Crede, Jose, ALomar, Konerko with Alomar and Olivo behind the plate. Frank DHs. Rotation of KB, Elo, Judy, Rauch and Shony. Bullpen of we don't know yet. Yeah, that sounds like a division champ to me. P.S. To everyone who spent so much time the last few months working up new rosters, especially options at the keystone sack, reinsdorf says thanks, but no thanks.
  14. I don't recall management claiming that they are signing players because they are fan favorites. Have they said that about Valentin? It's always all about the money. Which is why keeping Valentin was stupid times 2.
  15. Would you think about how we are going to pay him?
  16. Let's see....Sox shopping for bargains...Jose signed for 4 million instead of 5....MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! Let's see...Where do you find bargains at Sears??? Oh yes, the bargain basement! A few more moves like these and the basement will be home sweet home. Go go Kenny! And keep going until you're gone.
  17. Back in 2000 they had a fund raiser in Orland Park called Comedy Relief Pitchers where about 15 of the Sox did standup routines. It was great...but Cave was there and there is no one who tells more absolutely filthy jokes - filthy as in as dirty as you can imagine - than Art Kusnyer. Doesn't make him bad, necessarily.
  18. I used to work for the Federal Government. Next we we will have a deputy assistant, then a deputy assistant for administration, then special aide to the deputy assistant.....and then Jose Valentin will be the shortstop.
  19. Jon Rauch or Jose Valentin. BTW, who's our fourth starter?
  20. He was a major leaguer, he almost wasn't major leaguer, and then he almost won the Cy Young. That's comebacky enough for me. It's almost like Lazerus, if you ask me.
  21. How many assistants does Kenny get to have?
  22. Well, it would shock the absolute f*** out of me.
  23. BINGO guys I know Colon is obviously going to eat up more innings, but for those people who keep saying don't look at Ponson cause he just had his career year, he's going to be 27 at the beginning of next season he's still a very young pitcher, and look at his numbers they keep getting better and better each year, maybe he's learned how to pitch a little bit, cause he's always had the stuff. Listen guys.. I am totally biased because I've know Sidney for a long time. But one thing is that this is the first year that that moron Scott Erickson hasn't been up his ass to go party every night, and Sidney really got into a work out regime and started eating way better. He dropped close to 20 pounds and he's a rock. He's getting mentally into the game more - he's only 27 - and he's maturing. Obviously you all know my opinion. I would love for him to play here, but aside from that I think it's a good fit for the Sox. What the hell.. it's not like things can get any worse.. As long as he doesn't start hanging with Frank in the strip clubs. Frank doesn't do that anymore... But does he do it any less?
