Might kinda be time for the voters to start actually voting these guys out... you can only blame the politicians for this obscene behaviour for so long. America doesn't get to be a democracy by default, or because it is a pre-destined city on a hill. You actually have to do something to keep it.

Sheesh, enough with the soap opera... Can't we just enjoy watching the Sox and hope they win a damn championship?!?!

Not saying he should be ahead of Zack Collins, but are we worried about Yermin's defense? The guy can obviously hit a bit. Sorry I don't know Yermin very well.

Negro leagues elevated to major league status
KipWellsFan replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The story shared in the post above from SS2k5 explains this issue. https://www.theringer.com/mlb/2020/12/16/22178257/mlb-acknowledge-negro-leagues-officially -
Increase high school graduation, increase college and university attendance and graduation (including the trades), and improve job market participation and labour market outcomes. There's probably no better cure to radicalization than a decent education and solid employment. People with steady jobs, good education, and good family and friend support systems don't listen to OANN or throw bricks through a CVS window. Also, I don't think polarization is a strong enough term anymore to describe what's going on. Partisan politics mostly provides a good outlet for the combat of ideas leading to mediated outcomes. However, in America people seem to live in completely different realities, where they can't even agree on first principles.

The Edge, about the Houston Astros scandal was great Hope Through History with Jon Meachem is a nice change of pace to all the negativity in the world. Blockbuster is also great. The first season is about Steven Spielberg and George Lucas making Jaws and Star Wars.

Is this a joke about how often it was discussed on the broadcast with Benetti and Stone?

Sox sign Adam Eaton 1 year, $7m plus option
KipWellsFan replied to Greek-konerko's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I can't speak to his personality and effect on team chemistry. Some of you may have a point there. But let's also remember he managed to win a World Series in 2019. In that World Series he was second on his team in average, OBP, and OPS (Soto was first). I don't see Joc Pederson as vastly superior. -
Just part of what Greg refers to as a healthy "review" of the election. :)

First of all, why would a ship from Asia dock on the east coast?

You can be in favour of making sure the election process is healthy and there is no cheating. That's fine. But you must realize that's not what Trump was doing. At best he was trying to feel better about himself by delegitimizing the entire process and maybe making some money out of it with no real belief he could override the result. At worst he was trying to override the will of the people and actually hold onto office despite not winning the election throwing the country into constitutional chaos. He wasn't tweeting before the election: I have some concerns about mail-in voting and these are some ways we can address it. It was: Mail-in ballots mean massive fraud. I can only lose the election if it is rigged. He is not tweeting now: I am just using the legal means at my disposal to make sure the election was fair. He is tweeting: The election was a hoax, I won. Whether his maneuvers are about feeling better about himself, or actually trying to overthrow the result, he has created an existential risk to America's democracy. Now, because even fewer people have faith in elections, it will be even easier for someone next time from any ideological tilt to reject the democratic process and get away with it. I realize the consequences of his actions are so dire that they are hard to admit. Especially people who may have supported him in the past. But it is what it is.

Can we really say this when so much of the vote still isn't counted? By my rough estimate there are like 5 million uncounted votes in New York and California alone. I'm not saying it's untrue. But I would want to see the evidence on this one. We might need to wait for a more final vote count for this type of assessment.

Maybe a silly question, but does Jose have any shot at the HOF? Say he adds a World Series, or maybe ends up with 2 career MVPs? And does his international competition help? Or that's not allowed?

Very well could be. But I honestly don't know the nitty gritty of all that stuff.

Okay I will bite on this question Krankin is asking about Russia and 2016. Sorry to be long winded... I'm not sure Trump and his people technically colluded deliberately with Russia. But I believe some of them were so inexperienced, inept, and so completely ignorant of the national security implications that they actually became entangled with hostile agents. Did Trump say some dumb stuff that allowed people to accuse him of colluding? Yes probably. Remember when he said “Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing”? So that's probably on him. A serious politician with a keen sense of national security would never say something like that. And I don't think my conclusion is raving of a crazy leftist. It's probably a rational and reasonable concern. I thought that is essentially what the Muller investigation found. So I went back and looked at it now, and provide this summary of conclusions of the Muller Report: Russia did interfere in an election and it was "sweeping and systematic. That members of the Trump administration welcomed the interference as they believed it would benefit them There were some links between people in the Trump campaign and individuals tied to the Russian government. And some of these individuals lied or obstructed the investigation into these ties. On top of this, it is my belief that at least one individual close to Trump (Rudy Giuliani) is STILL, knowingly or not, working with people with ties to the Russian government. As explained in this article: https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/giuliani-biden-ukraine-russian-disinformation/2020/10/15/43158900-0ef5-11eb-b1e8-16b59b92b36d_story.html All that being said, I don't know if any of this had any material impact on the 2016 election. But getting caught up in this mess with one of your country's greatest enemies seems pretty serious no? Reasonable Americans could have serious apprehension about this story without being leftists. And now that I've written all this I can't remember how it is relevant to this situation.

What is a Major League Information Coordinator?

We're really struggling in some places in Canada again too.

Just to be clear, this also isn't true: "CDC estimates that influenza has resulted in between 9 million – 45 million illnesses, between 140,000 – 810,000 hospitalizations and between 12,000 – 61,000 deaths annually since 2010." https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/index.html

It's not either or. It's very possible Biden can still win, but by a modest margin. Or some conclusion that is messy where the winner isn't clear for a few days. Also at the pace of news Trump sets, it's possible that this hospital stay isn't even the most stunning event in the last month of the campaign. Also I'm not aware of any staunch allies of the US that aren't already stunned by the 'foolhardiness' of the US.

Do we know that's accurate... he went to the fundraiser knowing he had COVID?

True. And I'm not saying you were wrong. I'm just a bit skeptical about one tweet.

Those ‘Doomsday Planes’ Have Nothing to Do With Trump's Covid-19 Test https://www.wired.com/story/doomsday-planes-trump-covid-19-test/ I was a bit fascinated by your post Balta so I looked it up. Seems like other sources aren't so sure the two things are connected.

Yeah I don't think I'll ever really understand this move... If we were going to pull him so quickly why didn't we just start the game with someone we were really confident in? I also was mad when they gave Bummer they yank so quick. This was a very strange way to manage a game. Didn't Matt Foster start a game? I know he had a bad game, but I thought it would have made more sense to go with someone like him in advance of the game. All that being said... if your best guys are going to walk a ton of guys that's not really on Ricky. But alas...

Sox @ A’s - Wildcard Game 3 - 2:10
KipWellsFan replied to Bad Hombre's topic in 2020 Season in Review
We seem pretty evenly matched with Oakland. So we have to play sound baseball today. I love Nicky Two Strikes, but he made at least 4 mistakes yesterday. I don't expect that from him today. But no unforced errors is required today. No extra outs and have to take every base available to us!
