  1. I think the shrinking demands just make it more likely that he'll return to Houston.
  2. I think that the Sox should focus on getting one of the two lefties from LA, Perez(and removing Timo because having 2 Perez's is just too confusing) and Alvarez. If KW could convice JR to open up the pocketbook just a little more the White Sox would be such better shape. Alvarez would look great on the southside once again. Wow, I didn't even read your post Betsy, until just now, but I already wrote about getting rid of Timo, and was about to say something about getting rid of Jurassic in some sort of salary dump for a prospect. (even though I think we will need Jurassic this season and I foresee him having a good year.) SP is just a much bigger need, and a much better way to spend money this year.
  3. Iowa takes out ISU at Carver Hawkeye. Haluska drops 20 on his former team. The Hawkeyes may actually have a solid team.
  4. -- I'm confused.. Finley's probably not going to put up much in the way of numbers. His defense is also highly overrated, that should cost his piching staff a few runs, and ultimately victories on the season. They would have been better off spending the extra $$ for a guy with + Fielding and + bat still...Beltran.
  5. The episode really wasn't about the salary or benefits of its employees. Much more about it's business practices; their bait and switch techniques, their "made in the USA" bulls***, and their ability to demand what production of a product should cost not the other way around.
  6. Yeah I watched that -- That episode wasn't too kind to Target either. Though I must admit, I do go there on occasion.
  7. That still means that ANY team can negotiate with him.
  8. They had some terrible contracts on the books. Some came off this year, even more come off next year. If they are able to add a couple pieces this year, and a few more next season, there will be about 4 strong teams in this division in '06. Look for the Sox to go into rebuilding mode in '07.
  9. I was going to post this, but I hate Wal*Mart™ so much that I couldn't even bring myself to do so.
  10. I think I saw a frontline piece on this... I http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/
  11. Yeah I haven't updated pretty much since my computer troubles.... I think everyone knows about the Free agent tracker now -- http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/features/freeagents Go ahead and keep posting when a new player is signed, because I still don't catch all of them, and I'm sure there are others who can't possibly catch them all either, but I'm not even going to attempt to keep our list updated now. Let that job fall to somebody who's got more time on their hands , or is actually getting paid.
  12. I didn't realize that JM had guided teams to back-to-back World Series titles. -- You learn something new everyday
  13. Clayton must be driving a hard bargain. Everyday I hear Arizona is close to signing Royster™ and everyday I expect to see his signing, only to find nothing.
  14. Maggs health today is an issue when he's looking for a new contract and has stated that he's fine, and that he would demonstrate that today... It was just an meniscus tear after all :rolly -- Maggs has said that the White Sox "were saying bad things about him" Well he had a day today to prove the White Sox wrong, to make them look like idiots. All he did was reinforce the belief that he will never be the same.
  15. I'm gonna try and throw out some answers(guesses) here. Jon Garland/Wilson Alvarez/Dustin Hermanson -- Watch out for BMac after the break. Yes -- With a little more consistency he can be a star in this league. Just a fun guy to watch play baseball. Yes. Lee provides more trade value, and the teams who I could have foreseen Konerko being traded to all seem to still have their primary target available. Yes, I'd be willing to take a bet Dye's HR+RBI vs. Maggs HR+RBI next season. Dye's better defensively too. Second -- Willie is a wiz defensively. So as long as he doesn't step up to the plate, Yes. -- Uribe can play second, so the answer is still yes. Third -- I've been down on Joe Crede, but for no apparent reason, I actually think he's going to have a good year. Uribe can play third, though I don't think he's a gold-glover like he is at 2nd and short ther. So the answer is still yes. Catcher -- We have capable back-ups. -- So the answer is no. Yes -- The aformentioned BMac. Most strikeouts in all of the Minor Leagues last season. A solid performance in the first half at AA this year, and I suspect that he'll be fast tracked to the Bigs. Yes.
  16. Not very, but he's not going around telling everyone that he's fine. All the reports I've heard have frank back about a month into the season. (though as I noted in another thread, I think we'll see him back on the field around June)
  17. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=27045
  18. Lee/Harris/BMac for Huddy -- f*** yeah. Pick up Polanco/Cairo for 2B, or Renteria/Cabrera for SS and you're the favorites for the AL central again. Polanco 2b Rowand CF Thomas DH Konerko 1B Dye RF Everett LF Uribe SS Crede 3B Catcher with a rotation of Hudson Garcia Buehrle Contreras Garland -- Rock on.
  19. Maggs held his workout for interested teams today --- Oh wait, No that was cancelled. I'm sure the knee is fine. :rolly
  20. I'd love to watch Maggs play the final 35 games of his career on that wouded knee on the northside. It would be like your ex-wife leaving you for your worst enemy, and giving him herpes.
  21. ESPNDeportes is reporting that the Mets have guarenteed a 4th year to Pedro, and now are the front runners to land his services.
  22. I know some of this was posted earlier, but there is some serious stink coming out of the desert. The DBacks never funded those deffered payments that people around here loathe so much. That means they don't have the cash allotted to pay those players down the line. This is illegal, per the CBA. Now they are crying to MLB to bail them out while simultaneously doling out contracts of $45M and $34(Ortiz should be announced tomorrow) in two consecutive days. And to think this is the organization who fired wally backman because HE filed bankruptcy. Hypocrites.
  23. Yeah Rogo was stalled for three years in A ball, But he hit well this season, while putting up a nice OBP. This year is definately a make-or-break year for him in AA @ Hooter Met. He's a huge guy, he got some work in the OF in the AFL. How he fares in AA in a pitchers park will go a long way in telling whether he should be on the Sox "3-year chart"
  24. Channel 7 had interviews with Buehrle and Rowand about the Dye signing. Both of them appeared to be in a hotel lobby. I would suppose that they are both in Anaheim this weekend. For what reason I don't know.
