  1. Between Benetti and Lawrence Holmes good grief oh the fear
  2. Imagining the defense with Burger and Sheets in the game. *gasp*
  3. It should end up that way. But Eloy will get another shot
  4. Gosh, you have to also wonder if Abreu will be DHing at this point.
  5. The basic Escobar deal is probably set. The extra bits we have heard about could be for an expanded deal for the outfielder. Or just a deal for the outfielder by itself. Waiting to clear the decks on that possibility.
  6. Hahn may be locked in a room alone juggling steel bearings with one hand, a 3 finger glass of scotch in the other considering this.
  7. Besides, minor moves like this wouldn’t require JRs involvement on any level. Hahn knows his parameters, and makes the decisions.
  8. Correct. If a death in the family stopped the franchise from doing business in a timely manner, that would signal a problem with delegation. Not a good way to run a business.
  9. That vision has been more a Rays type vision though. So…they need to graduate to building the minors the more traditional way. Somthing not seen yet
  10. There’s no need to rebuild. They built. Question is what the Sox will do when the young players want a real free market deal instead of the unproven early deals they were willing to sign when they were desperate for cash and security. Kudos to the Sox for being able to get those done so far. It wont be that easy next time. Maybe these guys will be dealt first and the Sox pick up some Rays type deals. Preferably a lot of the pressure would be alleviated if they were better at signing international free agents. (Non Cubans lol)
  11. If you were following the particulars of the conversation, there were no real trade proposals, just hypotheticals to challenge people on their perceptions of certain players being untouchable.
  12. We’ll see what happens when it is time to pay up. Can see them paying Giolito, but when Kopech becomes a 20 game winner and wants 300 million. And Robert. And Eloy. We already know they won’t pay Rodon.
  13. Rays fans are used to the revolving door. it is uncomfortable for most other fans to consider living like that. Yet an acknowledgment has been made by most Rays fans that this is a necessity for that franchise to be doing. And you know, it is pretty smart anyway. If you can get yourself to root for the laundry instead of falling in love with players. Incidentally I have always been this way and it is pretty easy and stress free. But most fans love players and become loyal to them more than laundry half the time. People are different. But you know, a mercenary organization intent on being efficient with assets instead of sentimental can thrive pretty well as we have seen. This should be the Sox MO given the self imposed financial limits of the franchise. Something tells me the way while they have finally (FINALLY) gone all in on actual young and premium type talent like the other big time clubs, they still won’t be willing to pay up on most of it when the time comes for second contracts when they become hot property and subject to free market forces. Cool by me, get the trade machine up and running. They will never tell us that’s this is the long term plan, but a lot of fans that get sentimental about players should be ready.
  14. You would need to explain to me why in a hypothetical situation where Burger (or someone else young the Sox had) became a competent WAR 3rd baseman, why trading Moncada for equal talent at a different position of need would be funny instead of advantageous to the team. It seems appropriate that Moncada should simply volunteer to play somewhere else in that scenario ideally. Of course you could go the other way and trade Burger to fill the hole. But at this point in time, the Sox are trying dumb things like putting Burger at second…..now that’s funny.
  15. The blingy thing about Adolfo was the cannon he had in right field. If he lost that he lost a lot of sparkle. His power was impressive as far as upside, if not accomplishment, but that arm was the closing argument. I have not heard how that’s been going. But without it….
  16. To get back on topic, the Sox need to eat all Escobar’s salary in order to reduce the prospect price for him. If they don’t take that approach, they can’t be as serious as they say they are about building up the prospect base and changes with philosophy within the organization.
  17. Just saying, to echo other comments, he has not earned the claim to 3rd base for life that has been fait accompli around here. That’s teally what the discussion is. It’s s not advocating a deal today. Rather debating Yoan Moncada’s ultimate value and fan derived status given the issues with his game. He is talked about like some 5 tool guy, but only uses about 3ish, and cannot fill other holes on the team as they crop up. That’s all.
  18. Haha yeah. It is equally funny that he is considered some kind of untouchable given his uneven career, and positional limitations. As well as the needs of the team going forward.
  19. Doesn’t mean Burger specifically. Just as a general comment, as soon as the Sox had a 3rd base prospect WAR guy. Never said anything about a prospect trade. But a ML banger in RF? Very considerable.
  20. You’re describing a limited asset. One that has less homers than our shortstop btw. I certainly would not build my team around him at third base. His career accomplishments does not dictate it. I’d mess with it in a heartbeat if I could bet a good corner outfielder for him as long as the Sox can get a WAR player at third base to replace him. If he cannot move he becomes an expenable.
