QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 07:06 PM) Guillen had to go, but how in the heck do you appoint Cora the interim manager last night and this morning Williams texts him not to show up tonight. What an embarrassment. Kenny Williams needs to get his act together. If that is true ... KW should be fired again. Somebody should interview current managers in baseball like LaRussa off the record and find out what they think of the laughable KW.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 07:43 PM) Personally, I have no faith in south Florida baseball. Yes both Florida teams had/have horrible stadiums, but they have never had a lot of support. I just dont think FLorida is a summer baseball state. This is Florida's last chance at selling out the stadium on a regular basis. They get a great manager who is Latin and a new ballpark. He also is great tool for PR. He'll be all over the commercials as they market Ozzie Guillen, the man who won a WS in Florida and one in Chicago. Perfect scenario for Marlins.

QUOTE (Baron @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 03:57 PM) Yeah he plays the..." Well even though Ozzie did this...Kenny did this which is worse" card QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 06:20 PM) On the Score, they said Kenny told Cora to not even show up at park tonight. 1.) How KW keeps his job after signing the worst player in baseball and signing Rios and Peavy ... it is just amazing. If Oz is gone, KW should be gone. Although they are spinning it that Oz left on his own. 2.) If he said it like an ass, KW is lucky Cora didn't pop him in the mouth.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 07:29 PM) I am loving the Miami fan reactions (yes, I consider myself a "part-time" marlins fan). They are so happy he's coming and they think the new park is going to save the franchise and give them a $100+ million payroll. I dont think the park will save this team one bit. It might marginally increase attendance over 3-5 years after an initial year or two spike because of the "new factor", but that is about it They should be thrilled to get Guillen. Why wouldn't they be? Excellent for them in a new ballpark and perfect for Ozzie as well.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 09:04 AM) I really love how the f***ing Ozzie lovers took a good natured thread and s*** all over it. Follow the thread. Ozzie lovers didn't turn it to the darkside.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 09:18 PM) The comment aside, which smacks of a lack of personal accountability, does not really take away from the fact that KW apparently built a contender going into this season. On the field, they certainly did not compete, but I don't see how you can blame the problems of 2011 on him. If you can blame Ozzie, you can blame KW. Rios. Dunn. Peavy. Still a very slow team offensively. Still an unreliable bullpen and average starting rotation in terms of overall reliability. -
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 08:50 AM) As far as I'm concerned, the death knell for KW should be the Rios and Peavy moves. You can't do things like that, miss the playoffs, and keep your job as GM. And I'm going to be in full attack dog mode on KW from now on. He's next on the s*** list of people that really have no business being here anymore. Very true. Should be interesting to see how he rebuilds the team. He won the war vs. Ozzie now ...good luck turning this bunch into a winner, KW, considering payroll, and a pitching staff that consists of Floyd, Danks, Humber and Stewart and ?. That is a last place pitching staff. The bullpen is very unreliable. The new manager is just gonna get FRIED on here, cause we know how this board gets upset when the wrong choice is made. And the Sox have a bunch of relievers (with exception of Sale n Sergio) who fail a lot. And as great as Sergio is, he blew what, six saves? That's not exactly phenomenal, though I do like him n his potential. As far as the offense? Still very very slow with power hitters that have lost the home run touch. Rios? LOL. Dunn? Good luck skipper. Beckham? One of the worst offensive 2B in the game right now. AJ? Slow n can't throw. YIKES.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 07:35 AM) "Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall". -Proverbs 16:18 I think that best sums up what led to the final fate of Ozzie Guillen today, as well as some of the issues Kenny Williams has had, and what has led to the failures of our organization recently. "This town ain't big enough for the two of us" was a saying invented with guys like the current versions of Kenny and Ozzie in mind. I think Ozzie will do a good job in Miami, and as much as I think Kenny Williams should be fired, he won't. And while I feel this organization can't get back to where it needs to until Kenny is also gone, I think Ozzie being gone will do a lot of good for him. It's a shame the egos and pride of the two men got in the way of the team recently, because I think they are both still capable of doing a good job. I'll miss Ozzie. He had to go, but I'll miss him. My first Sox memories involved him at shortstop, he was the bleepity bleep manager for our first World Champion in almost 9 decades, and his craziness kept things interesting. But this move had to happen. I wish the other move that has to happen would happen now as well. But, since it's not, I'll just hope this gives KW's career with us a second wind. That's an excellent take. I respect your comments about KW. I couldn't agree more. If Sox can't resign Mark, that should be the death knoll for KW with this franchise. Unacceptable to ruin the pay structure of the team where you can't pay a legend.

QUOTE (Real @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 07:38 AM) so f***ing happy right now, good riddance you low life. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 07:38 AM) We will know exactly who Ozzie in hte next few months. If he keeps talking s*** or lets his kids keep talking s*** about the Sox organization than yes, he is a scumbag without a doubt. He needs to move on, the Sox need to move on. The End. 1.) That's uncalled for IMO. He is not a low life. You know what a lowlife is? Did you read the comments from his players?? 2.) I see your point but on the other hand, KW wins this war so I would think Oz would go out like a lion blasting KW a lot.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 07:27 AM) The more that comes out, the more Ozzie looks like a selfish ass. I can't wait till he's humbled, then he can come back. I just read all the articles on the Trib and Sun Times Web sites and the players praised Ozzie. From reading the board I got the impression Konerko was blasting him, etc. AJ said he loved him like a member of the family. We read what we want to read into things. I don't think he looks selfish at all. I can't believe KW is winning this battle.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 07:26 AM) My dream? Terry Francona My guess? Sandy Alomar Jr. I'd like to see Dave Martinez hired though, assuming Tito isn't canned for the Red Sox collapse, or if they make the playoffs. I'll give Sandy a chance but can't the Sox do better?
-
QUOTE (drowninginflame @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 07:24 AM) Mindf**k Chicago and hire Ryne Sandberg. Buddy Bell as manager makes me want to not watch Sox games. I would be very very happy if we hired Sandberg. Would be awesome.

How in the hell can the White Sox let Mark Buehrle go? Is Jerry going to sell the team and have it move? This team is headed toward such irrelevancy. My god. Letting Mark go is almost sacriligious. How can KW keep his job when he brings in Dunn and Rios for god sake knowing he'd have to sign Mark? Please Jerry, get rid of Kenny. If Mark has to go, KW should go as well. He has failed mightily if he built the team where the Sox can't afford to keep this pitching legend.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 07:17 AM) 4 years, $16 million guaranteed. 8X what he was set to make with the Sox for 2012. Ozzie's more about Ozzie these days than the White Sox. It's not like Forte or Alexei Ramirez and he was being woefully-underpaid. Another article mentioned that he already made $23+ million during his playing career and something like $10-15 million (he made $1.1 million in 2007) as a manager. With endorsements and autograph sessions and all those ancillary revenues, the guy has made roughly $40 million and yet he's always complaining about being poor. What world does he live in? Four years? Good for u, Ozzie Guillen. You sir are set for life 10 times over. Wish I had some of that money.
-
LOL. This means Williams is a butt kisser. Good job, KW. You won the battle. You sucked up to the right guy, your boss, whereas Oz won't stoop to kissing anybody's butt IMO.

QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 04:22 AM) Steve Stone says on Comcast this will not be an easy job for the guy who takes over because of the failures of Dunn and Rios and the uncertainty of the makeup of the pitching staff. Amen, Mr. Stone. Stone as a former player realizes players win games. Nobody can win with Dunn and Rios 2/9 of the order. If the Sox hire Buddy Bell, count on season ticket sales to dwindle to nothing. I'm starting to trust you guys on Martinez like I trusted this board on Dunn last winter. I hope Martinez is good. Anybody but Buddy Bell. There is absolutely no reason in the world to consider that guy.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 07:06 AM) F--- more years," said Guillen. "I want more money. I don't work here for years. No, I want more money. Years -- what, I'm going to die poor with the White Sox? Hell, no." Guillen wanted an extension and a significant raise from the $2 million or so the Sox were believed to be paying him. With the Marlins, who move into a new stadium next season, Ozzie will get both: more years AND more money. Lots of it. And with it, he said, will come happiness. Probably safe to say no one's going to have the personality that he has. I'll take the under on that. Ozzie's Ozzie. It's been a wild eight years. -- White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko "Life is about money," Guillen said. "People don't believe that. People are happy after they make money. F--- it." Reinsdorf was smart to agree to a divorce now -- not because Guillen has forgotten how to manage and win (he hasn't), but because a year of Guillen is like dog years. He can't help but wear out his welcome. http://espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/story/_/id/...g-ozzie-guillen Ozzie gets the moolah. Good for him. s***, double the salary according to Sun Times? Four mill a year? Take the money and run. Keeing KW is a fricking joke. Fire him as well and it'll be a better week for Sox fans.
-
The Sun Times says Ozzie will double his salary in Florida. Good for u, Oz. It also said, "welcome back to irrelevancy south side." New manager has BIG shoes to fill. Also said Those candidates are rumored to Buddy Bell, Class AAA Charlotte manager Joe McEwing or Sandy Alomar Jr. Forget the Tony La Russa talk, since one source already has said he wasn’t interested in managing with Williams as GM. LOL at the candidates. Buddy f***ing Bell ... great. Sandy Alomar? Joe McEwing? My god.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 03:21 AM) Ozzie had nothing to do with 2005. It's pretty easy to sit back and allow your starters, acquired by your GM, to just pitch you through the playoffs. Good riddance, Ozzie! QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 03:54 AM) I actually was just going to stay away from this thread because I really have nothing good to say about this guy at the moment but Victory managed to ruin an appreciation thread for the guy he has wet dreams about. Seriously, October 26, 2005 is the best moment of my youngish life and Ozzie will always be apart of that but I seriously wish this guy nothing but the worst in his future endeavors. The guy helped to destroy and make a mockery of a team that I live and die for, add that to his complete lack of class and his idiot f***in son and I can't even pretend to be a little sad. It's a great f***in day. Sorry quin, I didn't mean to derail your thread but I couldn't resist after what I read from Victory. Fooey on those 2 threads. Good luck in Florida Ozzie. You had a great great run with your favorite team.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 05:24 AM) See: My appreciation thread. I'll read it later; i've been in this thread exclusively. Nice story from Konerko http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,6845916.story

Why can't the Ozzie haters say at least, "Thanks for the memories." I would think that will come in coming days or months. The man is not evil, folks. You can't take away 2005. And our favorite team's failures are not all on this man. Give him his props, please. Or consider doing so.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 05:58 AM) First off, what's the big difference between 3 and 4 years? Why the heck would he hold out to get 1 more year? Second, you are obviously ignorant to the front office in Florida. Loria and Samson are very touchy about a lot of things. They send Logan Morrison down because he was too real on Twitter. How the hell are they going to react when Ozzie goes off on one of his rants? It's not going to be pretty. And again, the length of the deal really means nothing. If he does well in his first 2 years, he'll get an extension anyway. Put me in the group that says he won't make it through whatever deal he signs. My point is ... there will be no rants in Florida. He's passionate about the White Sox because he loves the White Sox and grew up a Sox player. He was the face of the franchise the last several years and bleeds White Sox black. There's no reason for him to go off in Florida. He'll be liked by the media but nobody gives a f*** about baseball down there. We won't hear anything from Ozzie Guillen down there. If they win it all, we'll see him in the postseason, but he ain't going to be going off about anything down there. Baseball is dead in Florida. Unless of course the new stadium means sellouts every night and baseball frenzy. I don't think anybody expects that.

I hope they give Ozzie a statue in the Cell. If we had a monument's area he'd be included, but we don't have a monument's area. Lest any of you blast me ... he's a former player who played ss a LONG time on the South Side and he's our WS winning manager. Why the f*** wouldn't he be recognized?? Also ... I'd wait and see who else gets fired before we hire somebody. If Francona gets fired, which he won't, he'd be a no brainer as Oz replacement. Shouldn't we see if Gardy is shown the door by the Twins? On a side note, is there any talk the Cubs might want Ozzie?

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 05:37 AM) Hawk talks now but sat in the booth all year kissing OG ass all year! I hope Hawkeroo is just as honest if/when Kenny gets the boot. I know how it works, though. I'd expect a steady stream of "Sox are gonna win this year w/out Ozzie," stuff all the way til Opening Day. New manager still has to look Dunn/Rios/Peavy in the face upcoming season. That won't change no matter who's in charge.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 05:28 AM) Ozzie expected to be named manager after Wednesday's game for Florida. A three year deal. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 05:30 AM) Not-even-that-bold-of-a-prediction: Ozzie doesn't even finish that contract before getting canned. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 05:31 AM) Hey, Greg was just a year off! 1.) He should hold out for 4 years. I still wouldn't be surprised if it's four year deal. Three years ain't bad, though. 2.) Give me a break. He will manage there a long, long time IMO. Great part of the country; he likes NL ball; team gets very little media attention so no need for him to be stressed. 3.) How do u know? It's not official yet. At least give me credit if it's announced 4 years like u are calling me out prematurely.
