Sox versus Tigers Game thread July 17

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 07:12 PM) Humber's mechanics were off in that inning. You could see he was falling off pretty hard to his left, and every pitch was sailing to his left. I saw him falling off in the second or third inning. I think he may need a little fine tuning for the second half to continue this magical season. Though it sounds like the defense f***ed him. I didn't see it. -

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 07:52 PM) What a s***ty way for Humber's night to end. He had great stuff working too, just a lot of bad luck and Tigers hitting good pitchers pitches. How was Humber today? I had to do something and missed the runs. It seemed like he had a lot of facial gestures in the early innings I watched. I didn't see CQ's blunder. He's been pretty good out there this year. Was it a rare big-time error? I had hopes for the offense. Not good to have a s***ty game against Penny. Bottom line is we need to get clutch hits or we aren't doing anything the second half. -

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 04:45 PM) Third consecutive start for Teahen. If this is the new reality, then there's truly no reason not to put Morel back in Charlotte to get 4 AB's daily, and bring up DV or ADA. As long as Omar is on the roster, he's all the backup/def. replacement we need. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 06:03 PM) Why did Beckham not try to break that up? 1.) I hope it's not the new reality. But Morel obviously needs time off. This is giving Teahen a chance to actually prove he is worthy of playing every day. If Teahen grasps it good for him but I have my doubts. 2.) Personally I think he knew there was no hope on that one. I don't think he was loafing but you could convince me otherwise. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 05:36 AM) After Friday's Twins game, I told myself I was done with this Sox team. I will watch them, but I won't get emotionally involved. If they complete the sweep, I might already be back in. I believe in fresh starts after the AS Break. The team should get a chance to prove itself this half, but there is a small window of opportunity to prove the Sox are a new team, a contender. After all, the team is still two under .500. If we are not gonna go on a huge winning streak, we're at least gonna have to win every series against Central teams.

POLL:Gordo, is he breaking out of that season long slump?

Decent Cowley article on Walker on the Sun Times Website. He no like us Internet people, though. Catch the shot. "Now, sit down and take a deep breath, White Sox fans. As long as Ozzie Guillen is manager and has a say on the makeup of his staff, No. 29 will stay on Walker’s back. So all your calls to the radio shows, all your little posts on the fan forums and all the yelling at your dog (“Rex, you’re a better hitting coach than this guy!’’), go ahead and save it." Some of the posts aren't 'little' Joe, some are rather long. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 03:31 AM) Winning the 3rd game of a 3 game series where they have won the first 2 seems as difficult for the White Sox the past couple of years as trying to beat Minnesota, but I agree with you, pull Rios and Dunn. How much more of this does anyone have to see? It'd be nice to see Flowers get a few hits in his season "debut" with the Sox. It looks like the big change so far this half of the season will be to let Teahen play against righties at third base. After Morel's woes, I actually am fine with that for now. Maybe the two should platoon. No need to start Teahen vs. lefties. Has he quietly returned to third base?

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 12:19 AM) Glad my prediction has been wrong so far the second half. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 01:15 AM) I noticed Quentin's gone back to the single toe tap on his swing. I think wite had a post earlier in the year detailing that - about how he's been successful with it. He went away from it during the 100 AB streak where he didn't hit a home run and sucked. He really should just stick to the single toe tap as it looks like it's worked wonders. QUOTE (chiguy79 @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 01:42 AM) Ozzie, lets not play the "Sunday" B Team tomorrow and try to actually get a sweep and some momentum....if you want to change the lineup lets pull Rios or Dunn. 1.) Me too. I thought we'd suck and get swept. I feel new life; hope this is the real White Sox team. 2.) I remember that post you had earlier. You should get Quentin's email addy and remind him the minute you see him not doing it, or tell KW in an email to look for it. 3.) I agree. But if they sit Dunn and Rios that should be fine. Amazing how much it helps when Becks and Pierre hit.

Do you think Dunn needs to stop the funky bat bending behind his back to adjust for age/new league/slump? Or should he bat the same way he always has? I think his approach is very lousy and he should change it up. Maybe bat like Dick Allen used to. Motor that bat around and around. Or like Yastrzemski's old stance.

The second half is giving me a new attitude as a fan (til we lose a game). This could be the new, efficient White Sox. 2-0 with Edwin looking good. BTW, if you want to PM me with the answer I'd take it under consideration. Qwerty said I am the sole reason Soxtalk sucks now. If u agree let me know why or tell me you would prefer I leave forever.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 11:12 PM) His pitch count is definitely way down. Great performance by Jackson today when the offense is 1 for 7 with RISP behind him. Wouldn't it be awesome if the Sox could close this out? Beating Detroit again would be damn nice. Losing after that bad call and the RISP thing. Ugh.
-
Why would Fox show Bos-Tampa in Kansas City and not a Central Division game Sox-Det? Nobody's watching this game, Fox.
-
I don't have the game on TV here. Is Jackson working faster?
-
Ugh, the White Sox of the first half would now lose. Can the second half White Sox hang in there?
-
QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 09:17 PM) I would think KW's wishlist would be for Dunn and Rios to start earning their paychecks.... If the Sox start playing better and emerge as true contenders, maybe Rios will start trying and producing. I'm convinced Dunn is trying at least. He might get hot on his own.
-
QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 05:19 AM) Sox will go out, knock down one of the best pitcher in baseball...this will be followed by getting beaten in a 4-hit shutout tomorrow. Just watch Maybe, but now that it's second half and a new start, we can dream. I mean we beat a Central Division team tonight. Maybe, just maybe the Sox will be good this half?
-
Man, the Sox haven't hit like that in a while. Nice win. Hopefully the bats are alive for good.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 10:43 PM) The judge didnt back up what you said. The Judge gave his opinion, which in terms of a jury is equal to the other 12 jurors opinion. Furthermore, the Judge explicitly stated that the evidence " not necessarily of premeditated murder, but certainly all lesser charges." Well that is great, he is entitled to his opinion, but the only opinions that count are the Jury. And that is how the American legal system works, you are tried by a jury of your peers. I cant believe people still care about this, in the words of Snoop/ Slick Rick "This type of s*** happens every day". Jenks earlier remarked about how you win some you should lose and you lose some you should win. That is the nature of the court system. She was found innocent, we move on. Badger, I've said in posts I would have hung the jury til we got her on some lesser charges at least. I haven't been holding out for murder. I just wanted her in jail 10 years or so cause she is responsible for this in a huge capacity as, uh, the missing/dead child's mother. I agree she was found innocent and don't want any wackos to hurt her when she gets out even tho I was compared to a wacko that would harm people.
-
QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 10:26 PM) It is kind of pointless to argue a point with someone obviously too stubborn to ever change their mind. I thought the judge backed up what I've been saying and what I've been ridiculed for saying. That's all.

Hmmm from judge h. lee sarokin, who served 17 years on the federal bench. me thinks some of you owe greg an apology "The fact that Casey Anthony was the last person to have custody of her daughter, failed to report her missing (or dead) for 31 days, consistently lied once confronted, and the child was found dead and hidden, and she failed to tell what actually happened despite repeated opportunities to do so to her family, friends or law enforcement, (even when faced with the death penalty) was sufficient to find her guilty -- not necessarily of premeditated murder, but certainly all lesser charges. The duct tape and other forensic evidence provided additional, but not necessary, evidence." He also wrote ... "The jury in the Casey Anthony trial was not instructed that circumstantial evidence is entitled to the same weight and consideration as direct evidence. Indeed, the words "circumstantial evidence" do not appear anywhere in the court's charge to the jury. I do not know whether or not the prosecution requested such an instruction, but the court did not give it, and apparently Florida law does not provide or require it." Hmmm I shouldn't have needed too long to have the jury come to my side on this one. Guilty. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/judge-h-lee-...y_b_898550.html

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 07:40 PM) If you have a serious complaint about a mod/admin, spell it out to one of the other admins, and we will, likely in private, take action deemed appropriate by consensus of the remaining mods/admins. Thanks Balta.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 07:23 PM) You have said multiple times that you would have gone out of your way to commit an illegal action if you were on that jury because of your belief. That is the textbook definition of vigilante. Yeah and I would go out of my way to take my car and ram it into somebody and kill them. What mod can I contact to issue my complaint about your post? Who is in charge here? You are out of line. I am on a jury. I have a right to convict after hearing evidence that 70 percent of the country after examining it agrees with me. But I am as bad as some idiot who tries to kill somebody? Great example you are setting for wanting a f***ing discussion on here.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 08:06 PM) You are talking about convicting a person of first degree murder, despite the evidence being found lacking by a 12 person jury who was involved in the evidence from day one. The prosecution failed, and despite that, you want her to get what would in effect be her death sentence. Convicting someone without enough evidence would be akin to killing her in this case. Trust me, I think she was guilty too, but you can't go vigilante and make the system do something that it isn't supposed to do. How is saying I believe there's enough evidence to convict her on the other charges wanting the first degree murder charge only? I say there WAS enough evidence. Obviously the jury at some point agreed as well as it was 6-6. It is my right to try to convince everybody else without being a VIGILANTE or some street thug trying to kill somebody with my car. And I can't believe you aren't backing down on the insult. I'm out of this thread. This really pisses me off. I think if I posted something like you did, I'd be banned. That's just bulls*** to insult me like that. Bulls***.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 08:02 PM) Not if you assume she was already dead due to an accident. Then it's a panicked 20-something trying to forestall reality, but it doesn't make it murder or abuse or endangerment. And what if I as a juror don't buy the 'accident' argument, which is my right. Then it is endangerment.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 07:59 PM) You are basically saying that the jurors should have taken the law into their own hands, vigilante style. Yes, I have a problem with that. I have a problem with you calling me a nut and comparing me to somebody trying to kill somebody. If it was me, I'd go back and kill that post. But I'm not a mod. And you again conveniently fail to point out I feel there WAS ENOUGH EVIDENCE to convict on some charges. Why is that being a vigilante. Holding out? Why is that being a vigilante? I want justice.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 07:42 PM) Greg is pretty much telling us he would be the jury equivalent of this nut in OK who attacked a woman for looking like Anthony. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 07:48 PM) She's a terrible person and a worse mother. She was involved in her child's death undoubtedly. The argument that she killed her or abused or endangered her is not quite as convincing. Trying to cover up an accidental death is not murder, abuse or endangerment. I love the assumptions here, that the only way six of them changed their minds was because they were "lazy." This of course ignores why 6 of them didn't vote guilty in the first place or quickly change their votes so they could get home and accuses them of extreme narcissism. 1.) That's very unfair. I think you should take that back. You can't argue or answer my points about how she could have been convicted on the second or third counts and come up with that? The only crime I've ever committed was drinking and driving in college and never caused an accident or got caught and stealing candy from a store as a kid. I'd be a jury equivalent of a nut who ATTACKED somebody? Geez. There have been polls taken where something like 70 percent of all Americans think she deserved jail time and I am a nut? Great. 2.) Lying to police is endangerment of her child. At that point child was 'supposed' to be alive. 3. Breaking news: Casey Anthony's attorneys have filed a notice of appeal for her four convictions of lying to police. The document was filed at Orange County Court Courthouse Friday by Anthony's lead defense attorney, Jose Baez. And state of Florida has to fit the bill because she's indigent. That is irresponsible. The woman lied to police and that's documented. What is Baez looking for here? Sad. And yes I'm ashamed I drank and drove in college. That was wrong. Luckily nothing came of it. I have a zillion friends with DUIs.
